Love Bat, too, though it's not very wearable. Very unique, very interesting, kind of earthy, musky, leathery, tropical fruit. Smells a bit like dirt and rotting fruit, not something to wear when you go out, but it's really a cool scent.

They're all fantastic in their own way. Scent of Peace and Cedrat Boise are more like Aventus cousins than clones. Scent of Peace is best in warm weather and Cedrat Boise is my fall-winter or evening choice due to its vanilla sweetness. Pineapple Vintage Noir is the closest to a straight up Creed Aventus clone, but both PV versions are fresher and cleaner than the original. I own other Aventus clones as well as the Creed, but never even think to wear them anymore.

There is this place in my city that lets you combine different fragances (sadly they tend to come in pairs or in sets of three ingredients), test a bunch of possibilities and then they give you a 50ml or 100ml flask of your creation. You could go to one of those places that sell handmade soap and shampoo and request it too I guess. Or maybe buy the oils yourself.

Mine has, more or less from most noticeable to least noticeable (first three at a tie imo), musk, sandalwood, jasmine, leather, rum, guaiac wood, vanilla (so far I think these are the most noticeable notes), lavender, rose, spices, watermelon and mandarin orange.

I might be wrong with some of the last notes. Maybe there was patchouli, rosemary and sage too (not sure about this last one). It is a quite smooth (and just sweet enough for my taste) woody oriental leathery fragance.

thats what i do i "appreciate" them for what they are, and for the most part I dont like them, it's why it took me a while to get into the hobby to begin with. i would have never thought back then that a cologne could actually NOT smell like some sort of bad soap or overwhelming sweet shit. while most of them dont smell totally repulsive, they just dont smell good enough and evoke nothing but trash.

Ok, how to sample: a guide:

Step 1: ask for recs here, make a list.
Step 2: order samples en masse.
Step 3: dont buy any full bottles, only maintain a massive collection of tiny, 1ml vials, most of which you've never even smelled on your skin.
Step 4: come back here and start acting like a gigantic snob, insist that anything that isn't niche is trash and for plebs.
Step 5: refer to yourself as a king and insist you know better than everyone else, even though 2 months ago, you'd literally never worn a fragrance before in your life.

And there you go. You know have a sample collection.

I like Jubilation XXV, myself. I'd try reflection, see if it's for you. I wouldn't say it's soapy, more clean and floral, kind of a fresh laundry scent. It's by no means a bad scent at all, it's just that personally, if I buy a niche scent, I want something a little more adventurous.

>Amourage

I had a two hour wait in London and smelled through the entire line and tried a few on. It really doesn't give the impression the price tag suggests. Leading me to believe the entire fucking line exists because of good margins and gullible retards who think price = quality thanks to good marketing.

In a business that lives on huge markups that's quite the feat.

>> No.12530711

>>12530696
Much nicer. Individuel is very harsh and synthetic. Reflection is very smooth, soft, and floral. Much more natural smelling. Almost a slightly creamy quality to it. Like I said, it's worth sampling.

That really makes you wonder, what set the standard of selling a 3.4 oz bottle of mostly alcohol and oils that couldn't cost over $7 for 70-400 dollars? It's amazing they can still get away with it or ever could.

>> No.12530736

>>12530719

Don't get me wrong, I know why the markup exists. Perfumes, especially higher end, aren't as much about mass production and shipping volume. Therefore you are either a small operation, or you need to account for marketing and stores/inventory.

Perfumes are an ancient luxury item for a reason.

But that doesn't mean price = quality. Creed is one good example of just outrageous markups leading to huge successes, because they were able to market it right. It's like Apple; decent product sold at ridiculous markup and popular to boot.

Then you have the polar opposite like the guy I bought from who has a regular little sales stand in Brussels just outside the town square. He makes his own stuff, clearly minimal operation, and he offers to work up custom scents to suit you for a bit more money. His standard frags aren't much more than "decent" mid range branded items, but are far better in quality with some amazing silage. Extreme bang for buck. But then there's no brand you're buying. Just massproduced spray bottles from China with his little paper note on it saying what it is.

Then you have some people saying "well hurr durr it's about quality of sources then". Which is true to some extent; good fragrant agarwood is expensive as fuck. But the vast majority of essences aren't exactly sourced and hand distilled when you buy Creed, Byredo, Diptyque. You're buying sauce from enormous mixers. In some ridiculous cases like with "Eccentric Molecules" you're buying a chemical ester at stupid markups. With NOTHING done to it. You're literally paying premium for a glass bottle and branding.

Flip that around and you have tiny outfits like Juniper Ridge where they actually go out in the woods and collect the raw material they then distill into essential oils. But then their products are actually cheap as perfumes go.

Learn your stuff and shop around. Know what you want.
