I really hate how low quality warby Parker is.

Shitty case, shitty frames and almost all their lenses are sub-association tier polycarbonate.

I'm not a 9 year old, I can handle frames that aren't the cheapest acetate, stupid spring hinges/unbreakable hinges that sit on the face softly and off center and saftey glasses material scratch prone non-attendance plastic with the lowest abbe value.

I honestly don't know what kind of consumer exists in this world where warby Parker is a completely viable option.

I bet it's the type of person who takes pubic transport everywhere and doesn't have a bedframe

Just bareback matress probably from Goodwill on the floor with no sheets and dirty plates everywhere

That's the warby Parker customer

So what's the deal with buying glasses online?

My current pair is kinda fucked and I can't find my other pair.

I was just going to replace my current frames with the same frame, but since it would be like 60 bucks from America's best I was thinking of getting a new eye exam since it's been a few years and I feel that my eyes aren't great.

Dad offered to pay for it I guess, but when I mentioned getting them online he kinda squirmed.

Contacts are a pain in the ass, especially when you've got astigmatism like me, because it required a special kind of lens that has to sit exactly on your eye a certain way or they're extremely uncomfortable. Also, they're a hassle to take in and out, and require you to have your case, solution and preferably a mirror.

Glasses are easy as fuck, and if you take care of them, last you forever. Contacts have to be thrown away and replaced and you have to reorder them.

>> No.12491853

The thing you need to understand about glasses, is that they're generally made out of acetate, which is cheap as hell. Glasses cost practically nothing to make, and lenses are pretty cheap too.

The reason you're paying insane prices for them in stores is because an Italian company called Luxottica has a monopoly on brands worldwide, and inflates the prices. You're paying for a name when you buy glasses, even though it's all the same cheap acetate and metal. 400 for a pair of Oliver Peoples frames is a complete joke.

Companies like Warby Parker decided they were going to make their own glasses at home, cutting out all extra costs, and offer glasses cheap as hell like they should be. Eyebuydirect and others have also done the same thing.

All you need is a prescription and your pupillary distance and they do everything for you.

And Warby Parker has a try on at home option where they mail you the frames you're looking at so you can see how they actually look and fit.

Also WP is expanding like crazy and opening a ton of stores so as long as you live in civilization you can try them on in store. Sometimes frames or certain colors aren't available for try on through the mail so going to the store is handy

Also they have good customer support and return policy, etc etc.

The downside is waiting for your shit in the mail but you usually wait a few days anyway if you are getting them from a local place

There's polycarbonate, which is cheapest, but if you have a stronger prescription, it gets thicker at an exponential rate

Then there's "high index" or 1.67-somethingorother (different merchants all call it differently). This will cut down the thickness in general, unless you have an ultra-high prescription or very large frames (it gets thicker the further out). It costs more than polycarbonate, but not much.

Then there's some other material, the name escapes me at the moment, but it is necessary if you have a very high script. It costs significantly more, and is generally difficult to find at most retailers.

Shops usually won't refer to lenses as high index until 1.67, unless they're pushing plastic 1.6's, which is about as scummy a marketing trick.
The term you're looking for is 1.74, innit? That isn't hard to find at all, unless you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for shops. Or do you have the higher refractive index lenses in mind?

Aw well that happens to all of us, no big. Polycarb is not actually the cheapest, a lot of cheap shops can sell good ol' fashion 1.49 plastic for I mean like $20 bucks online, but when paying that little for lenses folks gotta bear in mind that they're also skimping on labour costs, and some overworked and undertrained lab technician in dallas is probably gonna fuck up your glasses in a way you won't even notice until the warranty is up.

With the recent merger with essilor I mean you basically can't. A good chunk of affordable lenses in the north american market come through essilor, and even places that push cheaper brands like Shamir (wouldn't recommend the stuff tho) push luxottica frames, and are sometimes literally owned by luxottica (fun fact: lensecrafters uses shamir lenses in some regions, they're hot garbage but they'll charge you up the ass for em)

I mean maybe if you've got an absurdly generous spending account that lets you buy frames handmade out of old earrings with Zeiss lenses on top then you're technically escaped Luxottica, but in the most backwards fashion.

Firstly shave. Secondly stop wearing that hat. Thirdly pick a frame which is more neutral colored and does not match with your facial hair. I dunno where you are from but where I live that textured/wooden/black/brown/orange look is associated with slav heritage aka grandad/grandma tier. Other than that your face shape is oval/heart so you can check out what types of frames fit your head shape.

Hope this helps

I got some nice round (prescription) glasses
I'm not sure if I can pull them off every time because I have a kinda roundish face. With some fits it looks really good not so good

since I get a second pair of prescription for free I'm not sure if I should get another rectangular pair of glasses or sunglasses
I would like to have prescription sunglasses, but I wouldn't even use them that much

Honestly designer frames are good quality. Oakley is good as well. Raybans are decent but dont get their "something lite" frames.

Are these types of glasses good for my face shape? I have a square shaped face. I haven't found many glasses that I can look good in. Apologies for shitty pic, only one I have.

I guess horned glasses are what I want. However, the ones I currently have are an odd hybrid of horned and cateye, which I didn't know of until later and it was a bit upsetting since I don't like the cateye style. Should I go for the horned style? These >>12492322 interest me as well

My glazses are pic related. They're nice, except one thing - they're more cat-eye than I wanted. Like those feminist glasses. I just wanted full-on horned. I've been wearing these glasses for years and I look fine, but I strive to find the perfect pair of eyeglasses. I have a square face.

Would more horned glasses be a wise investment or should I continue to deal with these?

It's fine
I mean it's a common style and a simple frame, there's not much anyone can say about it. It's a plain black T-shirt for your face.

Not in the slightest.
I mean, I wouldn't care that much, you only paid 45 for the frames and it would look equally as bland if you paid 300 for a masunaga or like 600 for a saville row.

>> No.12517800

>>12517661
not too big in terms of how they look in the face, but by the looks if it you're gonna have issues simply of fit. Looks like if you smile any wider and your cheeks are gonna move the frame out of place.

Thinking of changing glasses. These are scratched as fuck. Got contacts but are annoying to use frequently. Any advice? If possible, wanna step a little outside of my comfort zone but atill sticking to the basics sich as considering my facial shape and color.
