It's still very much functional; the SKX007 has 60 click on that bezel and the insert can still indicate any minute turn it to like any other would. You can use it to remember what time an appointment, how longer you have with the air in left your bottle, what direction is North, etc. If you think this watch isn't functional as it is, you probably don't know much about watches anyway. Never mind needing a special watch to tell what time it is in

Sure but the point was that someone spent money and took time to mod a watch with a GMT bezel that cannot be used for its intended purpose, i.e tracking additional time zones. I'm not saying there's a rule you cannot do this, but personally I see mods like this kind of tacky.

24 hour bezel assumes you have a GMT hand geared for half a speed (i.e circles dial once a day instead of two). Without this, the 24h bezel has no purpose. They should have put in a 12h instead.

I'm thinking about getting this watch, but I'm not really into watches very much and the sound of it being solar-powered kind of freaks me out. Is there a general rule of thumb when it comes to when a watch it too large? Like a wrist to lug ratio?

I've got kind of girly wrists (6"), but I do enjoy a large watch.

I really like the look if the Depthmaster 3k in black but I'm pretty sure it would be comically large on my wrist.

Any suggestions that look similar? Specifically the sapphire bezel and larger lum for about the came price ($500) I've got a 45mm wide by 51mm lug to lug that looks good on me, but that Depthmaster is a bit larger than that and way thicker.

Pic not me

This is a fashion board and I'm seeing the same shit /g/ posts regarding watches. What is wrong with minimalistic design? Bloated watches like >>12268408 and >>12266067 just seems too busy and bulky. Minimalistic quartz watches actually feel good, LOOK good, tell the time like they should and are fashionable.
I'm genuinely curious why you seem to heavily dislike minimalism in watches. Fashion is basically form > function.

Fossil grant chronograph I got a few years ago. It's a beautiful watch and I'm sad Fossil didn't have larger "boyfriend" style watches in the women's section that actually fit me back then. Lugs should not hang over your wrist, the first links should compliment the watch. Otherwise, it always depends on the watch itself. Some massive panerai watches can look ok in even smaller wrists because of the design.

>>12282558
There's a difference between minimalist and simple design. Minimalist is extremely hard to do right so that it is not boring. Agreed, the Seiko is fine.

The ETA 2824, commonly skeletonized, does not actually have a 90 degree angle between the balance staff and the crown, so the balance wheel is slightly to the right of 12. It's obvious on the B&M because the indexes for the 1 and the 11 are very visibly different lengths, but it shows up in any skeletonized 2824.

I work as an EMT, gearing up for paramedic school and looking to med school after that. Having a timepiece with a second hand strapped to my wrist is essential to performing my job, as I need to be able to document times and count seconds without a free hand. I used to use a cheap quartz watch (pic related, it lives on my backpack strap now), but the battery died on me mid-call so I now wear mechanical watches. My fire chief and EMS captain both wear mechanical dive watches, as do many others in the department.

Working construction, I also made good use of a wrist watch. My dive watch would hold up in environments and working conditions that had everyone else leaving their phones behind, so I was often the only one with any idea what time it was. There were also plenty of times when there wasn't really time to stop working to pull out a phone, but there was time to steal a quick glance at a watch.

Just because you have time to play with your phone all day doesn't mean the rest of us also aren't doing anything with our lives.

>I used to use a cheap quartz watch (pic related, it lives on my backpack strap now), but the battery died on me mid-call so I now wear mechanical watches.

What what do you have? I hope it's good quality and reliable. For example single magnet near by can screw up mechanical movement.

Any good quality quartz is still ten times more reliable than any mechanical movement out there, there's just so little that can fail compared to so much of a mechanical caliber.

Also, any decent quartz will somehow signal that batter is near it's end. For example Seikos, Citizens will start double ticking with second hand like 6 months before the battery is dead, so you will have plenty of time to replace.

I'm not saying you did a wrong choice by going mechanical on your job, but if you did it for reliability purposes you downgraded considerably.

That's a pretty nice watch. My fits are usually pretty dark in color so I think a gunmetal watch would look nice. I'll definitely post before copping.

you manlets win again. it should have been 40mm.

It has nothing to do with wrist size. It's rather a style thing. Simple three hand watches always look better conservatively sized. Watch makes know this and it's the reason they make 36mm DJ's, 38mm AT's, etc.

Sports watch like divers are and look fine larger, and chronographs/instruments with busy dials even larger. I have an avarage wrist size, around 8 inches, and here's how I'd prefer my watches:

>Non-diver, non-chronograph dress or sports watch: 36-38.5mm

>Diver (with divers bezel): 38.5-42mm

>Chrono: 40-44mm.

You're right, it could stand to have its crystal polished. Good eye.

I've been using my Omega because that's the watch I ended up with (paid literally a dollar, rescued it from a gun shop that just thought it was a worthless beat-up old watch and had it in the dollar junk bin), but I've been shopping around for an SKX or similar.

>Also, any decent quartz will somehow signal that batter is near it's end. For example Seikos, Citizens will start double ticking with second hand like 6 months before the battery is dead
I'll have to look more into this, thanks.

>I work as an EMT, gearing up for paramedic school and looking to med school after that. Having a timepiece with a second hand strapped to my wrist is essential to performing my job, as I need to be able to document times and count seconds without a free hand.

You should get a G-Shock or similar for your line of work. I'd hate my life depending from 60-year-old junkbox Omega, which has propably never seen a proper service I assume (not that even matters).
