Like other anon said solovair are the best boots I own and I own quite a lot of boots, heard good things about gripfast but never owned a pair, apparently their standard soles are shit (wear down quick, hard to walk on and the piece theyre attached to crack so they can't even be resoled) so if you go down that route then I'd say 100% get them with the airwair soles

Same. Except my heels wear worn unevenly which I didn't like. I leveled them out with some shoe goo and that's been working out really well so far. This is the worst leather damage I could find on them and it isn't even really that bad. I waxed/conditioned them for rain so that's why the leather is so dull looking. I don't like shiny boots.
>>12226164
They're good boots; but I don't know about doing any real operating/innawoods stuff with em. They don't breath because they are leather, they don't have any real ankle support because the leather is so thin (which is why they have such a good looking profile though) and they are heavy like you'd expect a combat boot to be. Great for adverse conditions like rain/mud/snow though.

They didn't specify a grade on the website but theyre hardly on their last legs, theyre creased and scratched but nothing beyond normal wear, mine were really dusty when I first got them, not wearhouse dust but like mud dust so I don't think they do clean them, the leather still feels strong though so I'd expect them to last me several years yet, they also look as though they've been resoled extremely recently with only about a weeks worth of wear to them

Wear black skinny jeans and give them a good polish when you first get them. I'd go with earth tones on your top half. self confidence is key, if you think you look like a clown then you'll look like a clown, also none of this only lacing them up 4 holes or missing the top one, lace them up and lace them tight, It helps to pull them in so they look narrower and you just look weird otherwise

Well they're vegan so worse than normal DM quality which is leaves much to be desired to begin with however I've heard that theyre better than other vegan boots, youre still probably better off just getting yourself some converse or whatever though.
The vast majority of leather is just a byproduct of the food industry so you shouldn't feel bad for just going for normal boots, its only really in the high end luxury leather goods that they kill an animal specifically for the leather

>> No.12229617

>>12229575
grinders are basically the go to beater Britboot which is why they're a popular motorcycle boot, gripfast and tredair are also apparently decent beaters, you could also try Steel brand boots, made in Poland so likely better quality than your average chinkshit boot however, they do seem to be very hit or miss either last for 6 years or dead within a week you can always send them back though, I'd say the inconvenience of having to send them back is worth possibly getting a boot that'll last years for a price that low though

Balsam is to soften leather not polish it will be adequate if you don't want shiny boots
What I do for all my boots is, brush down with hard brush then again with soft brush, apply polish with a folded piece of toilet paper rubbing it Into the boot in circular motions apply a thin layer to the whole boot and leave it for 5 minutes, I then come back and with the soft horsehair brush, brush the polish off moving the brush as quickly as possible, then if I want them to be shinier still, I'll get some kiwi parade gloss and do the same thing again only on the toe box/the entire lower part of the boot. Then to finish it all off I give the whole boot a quick once over with one of those silicon easy shine or patent leather sponges just to prevent them from scuffing as easily

Got my pairs of paratroopers too, first leather boots. got 2 pairs because I'm in between 2 size, but I can't figure out which fits better. Smaller one has a lot less heel drag, but toebox barely fits, bigger one has plenty of room in toebox but more heel drag. Smaller one is definitely more snug fitting, but I've heard that's not a good thing for boots. Any guides on this?

Alright you /fa/gs

Once and for all i'm gonna ask, would Solovair's 11-hole boots last the way that i wear my typical shoes?

>worn 4-6 times a week
>through spring, summer, fall, and winter
>gigs, shows, festivals, pits, kicking and stomping on and walked around a lot
>maintenance every 1-2 weeks (cleaning, waxing and polishing, maybe swapping the insoles for better ones)
>cold temperatures (-5C to -25C)
>""""hot""""" temperatures (10C to 25C)
>OP = 6'0"/ 218lb

Should i expect more in terms of quality than my Taiwanese made-1490's by these variables? If not, i'll look into some other boots then, like Grinders, Boots & Braces or Särmä.

I wore my 1490's (and my brother's black 1460's) with well-fitting, slim-fit (doesn't have to be, i just don't dig how jeans might muffin-top over the leg of the boot, so i stuff the leg of jeans inside the boot) and that's about it. I typically dress like a metalfag anyways, but shining the boots into dapper condition worked when i wore them with a suit to a party once. Pic is what some Levi's 551's looked like with them.

I'd definitely go for steels, they'll last longer, crease less and stay looking new, just make sure you keep them polished to keep the leather nice and supple to prevent splitting I'd avoid DMs leather balsam because it'll soften the leather quite a lot. 14i steels sound great, post them in boot general when/if you get them

How do you guys feel about Palladiums? They're pretty common around here (Asia). I have two pairs, one is the Multicam pattern "converse" cut, and the other is the black, fold over/lace up 3M Refletive boot.

Personally I love them, especially the Multicam pair. They're damn near indestructible! I bought them just before my move, and I've taken them all over Asia (Pic related, at the top of Hikone Castle, Japan) They've held up wonderfully. I've practically lived in them for weeks at a time while traveling.

The 3M boots are also cool (the laserz bounce off them at the club and blind people), but I find I rarely fold them down. Cool to combo with the 3M jacket I own though.

Also just copped a set of jack boots from Ukraine, can't wait for them to arrive! Not sure what I want to do with them yet... But wow that shipping cost ($70 for $50 boots)

Doing this will shorten their use life substantially and contribute to odors and general rot.

Get at the VERY MINIMUM two pairs that you can alternate between, especially if
>""""hot""""" temperatures (10C to 25C)
when your feet will sweat more.

Alternating a pair (or more, 3 pairs is best if you can manage it) and using some decent enough (cedar) shoe trees will make your shoes last longer, be fresher and look better.

Strongly consider this.
No matter what you buy.

90% of joes out there make the mistake of thrashing one pair of shoes, day in day out until they are reeking and fall apart in >6months and then they bitch about
>"oh these shoes are crap! they didn't even last a year!"
and then proceed to buy another pair and fuck them up again.

Alternating with trees is more important than any other care IMO (not including winter care), and the usage time gained from this regime is more than the simple sum of the time you get wearing two pairs to death, sequentially.

Do it.

I still have my pair of 1490s, and i can borrow some 1460s during the week, i'll also probably wear sneakers mostly during summer, boots are more for festivals and gigs during that time of the year. I do understand that alternating between shoes is important, it's just that even with altering with the 1490s, they still don't seem to hold up that well.

I was looking at Visvim boots in similar colors. I'm really happy with my Chipps, the Visvims are more gray and less creamy. Go for it though, the colors are neutral and versatile.

if normal asian docs arent lasting solovairs wont either - theyre the same with slightly better leather. Docs have better quality control. 'docs falling apart after three weeks' posts are either flat out lies or possibly ppl are wearing the wrong size? this is apparently quite common and ruins shoes. even $8 canvas plimsols should last a while

>what do you need to properly take care of a boot in terms of cleaning?
Excluding messy incidents like slogging through mud etc., generally you must brush your shoes/boots after every wear.

Why:
All leather creases (cept shell, which isn't really leather, but whatever). Creases is where cracks will inevitably occur. It will happen, sooner or later. Preventative maintenance is necessary to forestall this sad event - that will occur to pretty much all leathers one day.

Apart from conditioning etc., which I'll not get into, brushing is just as vital because as you go about your day, bits of dirt and shit and whatever else embed themselves in the creases and the microcreases in the leather (most often across the vamp, as the main flex point of the shoe - basically the part of the shoe/boot you always see a lateral crease going across where your foot bends before the toes).

These bits of grit and sand and shit will, if not brushed out, work to grind away at the leather at every step you take.

So, after wear, brushy brush. Stick a hand into the boot/shoe and "pop up" that flex point crease so that you can get the brush into those creases.

>is the type of leather or how it's produced change how it should be cleaned?
Yes.
Exotic leathers all need their own specific regimes for example.
Suede, all you can do it brush it.
Even the different variants of bovine leather require different general care.

But, generally:
Brushing, and a wipedown with a just damp cloth (cept shell, no water for that shit IME) should be done after each wear.

Depends how dirty your average day makes your boots.

>Also, how do you boot trees with generally taller boots?
I'm afraid I've only ever gone for ankle boots. But I know that there are some ceder trees that are made for taller, cowboy type boots. I'm sure that these would fit in the taller solovairs/docs for example.

I own a pair of Frye boots and I love them. They have a rugged look but they are not tough at all. They are more fashion than function and get beaten up fairly easily. But they look brand new when you condition them.

I would not recommend buying oxfords from them, though.

dark saturated brown - minimal shift in hue with high shift in saturation and value is always appealing to me. Any color can be arranged into an appealing monochrome as you would arrange grays and black/white
refusing to wear brown next to black is a meme
I plan to swap the laces with a textured gray, very dark or light
a black belt would be fine too, I wear both often

Is my shoe care-routine good enough, or should i do something differently/add something?

>clean the boot with a brush and a damp cloth (also use the brush on the bottom-sole and the creases)
>let it dry
>apply Palc shoe-dubbin (black) with a sponge
>let it dry
>use an old t-shirt (and a brush for the tighter spots) to carefully rub the excess dubbin off the boot, leaving it with a nice shine
>let it dry for one last time (2 hours to 1 whole night)
>repeat the dubbin-process if necessary
