I'd probably just skip the meal and wait until later to eat. Rice cakes are likely pretty high in glycemic index and going to make you hungrier quickly anyways.

What's your diet and mealtimes looking like?

>> No.12183143

I'm feeling really discouraged lately seeing anons post about how they're losing several pounds a week, meanwhile I've been eating 500-1000 daily for almost a month and haven't lost even half of a pound. I've had one or two binge days sure, but I feel like I should have lost at least a pound by now. Am I just making it worse by stressing?

For reference, I'm at ~21 bmi so I'm not really obese or anything. Is it normal for weight loss to be slower if you're at a "healthy" weight?

>> No.12183213

I'm already doing fairly low carb, just not keto. Instead I've been trying this intermittent fasting. Wew though I thought I'd get used to it but I stay hungry every day.

Thanks. I've been drinking lots of water, I know that's what froggo would tell me to do, but it doesn't seem to help much.

>> No.12183216

Yes, it is. But what's your diet like? How many calories? What are you eating? When are you eating? Stats?

>> No.12183219

The lower you are, the slower you lose. However, you still definitely should have lost a pound by now, regardless. Are you sure you've been eating that daily? Are you measuring your food properly? M or F? (girls gain weight right before their period/the first few days of their period)

>> No.12183239

>girls gain weight right before their period/the first few days of their period

trying to get down to 100

some days i just have dinner, but a day like today when i have 2 classes before lunch and 2 classes afterwards i feel the need to "fuel up" before the second half of the day. i've been very busy walking to class sometimes and i know it's not good for me.

>> No.12183251

Well I'm eating a pretty high fat diet. Yesterday I had 46 grams of carbs, 61 grams of fat, and 72 grams of protein. So I'm not low carb, but certainly high in fat.

>> No.12183257

In an a 1950's experiment in norway or something on prison inmates, a doctor tried to overfeed prisoners food, carbs and protein. He found it very easy to feed them 7000 calories over TDE of carbs without trouble but he had to fat and practically forcefeed them to get them to eat only 800 calories of fat over their TDE. It is evident that fat content, in addition to every other benefit, contributes to satiety much more than carbs (and also protein although that particular study did not explore that). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHaCKudtVi0

>> No.12183258

I'm 5'3.5 and about 123lb

I would say that my diet is generally fine, but inconsistent. I eat more vegetables and legumes than anything else, I've even cut down on bread. I've always eaten really well but ever since I became drinking age I tended to lose control on weekends. Again, I've also cut down on drinking so I'm confused, that alone should have helped a lot.

I really don't want to do keto or high fat or whatever. I don't want to eat meat and I can't handle dairy. I just really refuse to do that, so please don't suggest that. I suppose I could just try being more diligent. I'm on birth control, but it's low-hormone so it shouldn't be affecting my weight.

>> No.12183262

Try and find something more protein and fat based. Maybe some nuts and a small turkey breast or something.

>> No.12183263

sorry for double posting but lol wow I guess I negated my own calorie estimate by mentioning that I drink on weekends. Don't bully me, I realize that might be where I'm going wrong now. I just didn't think a few beers and a slice of pizza every now and then would kill me so hard

>> No.12183266

Yeah I watched that before and have been better about eating more fat: >>12183251

..but I'm still having a hard time with IF.

>> No.12183276

No worries. The beer does kill you. It's also basically sugar to my understanding, or gets converted into that, so it takes a stronger hit than the calories might suggest.

Why are you against eating meat? Moral reasons or just don't like the taste?

Also cheese is a diary product, so you're already tolerating dairy if you are eating pizza.

>> No.12183280

How much do you usually drink?

A pint usually has about 200 calories in it (most mixed drinks between 200-300)

As for the pizza, that will set you back 400 calories.

So you look, you go out friday and saturday, get two drinks and a slice of pizza you added 1600 calories or about 1/2 lb to your weight.

>> No.12183284

I guess I meant I can't handle dairy on the regular, pizza does hurt my stomach. I really fear milk, yogurt, butter, ice cream, etc.

As for the meat, I just don't like how it makes me feel physically. I was vegetarian for moral reasons for about 5 years, so now I just don't crave or enjoy it and even a few bites make me feel painfully full.

Thank you, I needed to hear this. I guess it's easier to look at my thin friends who drink/eat more and feel cheated, than to really pay attention to what I'm putting in my body.

>> No.12183287

you sound like such a pain in the ass to be around

>> No.12183290

Not that anon but depends on the girl, some gain a couple of pounds, others can gain up to 10lbs.
For me it varies, some months I barely bloat while others all my clothes leave gross red marks because I'm so swollen.
When I lose weight gradually I typically maintain throughout the month (as I lose fat and gain water weight) and drop the weight after my period.

For girls who hate the water bloated feeling, midol sells PMS pills that contain a diuretic.

>> No.12183291

Can I ask what makes you say that? My dietary needs or just my tone, or what? Asking because I don't have any friends and maybe I am a pain in the ass to be around.

>> No.12183292

It's hard with the social stuff. Especially in college. I think you have to have a balance. I mean if you lose weight a little bit slower having a few beers on the weekend who cares. If you are binge drinking then yeah it's going to really slow you down.

>> No.12183297

On the same wavelength, studies typically find that whole milk is better for preventing childhood obesity that skim milk. Although the causes aren't clear, some think this might be due to the effect of dietary fat on satiety.

>> No.12183300

eat less protein and more fat for better satiety. And 46 grams of carbs is NOT low carb unless 30 of those carbs were fiber. That's just regular carb. You want 50g total carbs or less and 20 or less net carbs (which is "carbs - fiber content, so 10 carbs with 6g of fiber would be 4 net carbs.)

>> No.12183303

Might not be the healthiest but in order to maintain my weight, I count calories almost daily and add in a couple of days below 600 calories to compensate for going out once a week.

>> No.12183305

yeah just whiney and high maintenance to be around. vegetarian which is annoying if you want to go someplace with someone and they claim they can't eat 95% of the menu, you eat a piece of pizza and your stomach hurts. one post say you "look at your thin friends" then the next say "I don't have any friends" when you are a women so of course you get attention you know nothing about having no friends. unaware of yourself enough to not figure out pizza and beer would slow you down until you actually posted it, so probably a little slow too which is annoying.

>> No.12183309

>eat less protein and more fat for better satiety.
Wait, what? I thought it was supposed to be the other way around, that protein is better for satiety than fat because it takes more time/energy to burn.

I don't see any problem with your tone. Dietary needs and the whatnot do make it hard for people to say invite you out to a restaurant. Unless you get in with Greenpeace people or SJWs people aren't gonna want to find a restaurant that has vegetarian options that don't make you feel sorry for the vegetarian.

She usually pushes me to meet up with HER friends/whoever shes dating, which tend to be thin and tumblr-y people who I referred to as my friends since we share one social connection and I didn't think I needed to type all of this out instead of just saying "my friends" but there you go, please relax now.

Understandable. Yes, during IF need to be careful timing medications. Keto is a close cousin of IF, and nearly as effective, but I find it to be much more difficult in terms of logistics and fasting is still more effective. With your diet and disdain for meat and fat, IF is your best choice, although you may be hungry eating a high carb diet. Try to find ones with a low glycemic index when you start up again. Vegetables are often very good.

>> No.12183512

Yeah, you are looking for carbohydrates with respect to how they affect blood glucose levels. There is a ranking that is easy to google for various foods. You want below 55 as a rule of thumb, lower the better. The slower rate of absorption will cause less of a spike in blood glucose levels, which results in lower insulin levels. When insulin is high, you can't burn fat. So between fasting and being selective about your carbs, you can still have good insulin sensitivity. Obviously not as good as if you were eating higher fat/low carb, but you can compensate with longer fasts. For sure if you are eating high carbs I'd be doing some 24 hour days rather than the more common 16. Takes 6-8 hours to get into that "fat burning" mode where your using ketones rather than glucose, so extending that a bit more in your case would be beneficial since it'll probably take longer for your insulin to drop after all those carbs.

Well done, anon. Fat is going to melt off of you.

>> No.12183523

Oh wow, thank you so much for explaining it in such detail. It makes a lot of sense now. When I was doing IF I was eating only once a day, so 24 hours won't be a problem. Maybe I can ease into high fat/low carb if I can find high fat foods I don't hate...what about fish? I like sardines a lot.

Sure, fish can be a good entrance in. I love fish. There are fattier ones like salmon and tuna - sardines meet that criteria. I love a good salmon steak, and baking it is pretty easy. Almonds are good too, I tend to work those in.

I personally don't eat much red meat anymore, just out of preference, yet still manage to keep my diet high in fats. I also use olive oil (Butter works too but I prefer olive oil). I used to be scared of using these but as an anon pointed out much earlier, there have been studies that show how little of them you can eat before being full.

>inb4 do people really lie on the internet
Yeah, but not when it takes that much time. Is this video about losing weight quickly, or about a long-term sustainable model-tier diet? I'm not interested in keto, if he's about to come around to that.

This video is interesting and informative, but annoyingly extemporaneous. I'm about seven minutes in. Is there a difference between the blood sugar charts of insulin resistant/sensitive people? If so, why didn't he draw the difference before moving on to talking about macronutrients? If not, why did he draw the chart first? It's just kind of frustrating.

However my entire family gives me shit for it. Saying stuff like "well I just don't think you need to restrict yourself so much" "it's all about self-control" and shit like that.

Like, I've been on and off diets ever since I was little. I've struggled with an ED for the last decade of my life. I think I know what I need and what very obviously works for me.

It just comes back to the fact that they just need something, or someone, to be the black sheep for them to talk shit about so that they feel better about themselves. If the "fatty" of the family loses weight, then they can't feel better about themselves carrying all their extra pounds.

No. Fat is the leading macronutrient for satiety (the ability to feel full and not hungry for longer) and cheese has it in droves. In addition, people on the western diet are fat deprived. There was a study that people who ate the same calories and protein but ate 100g carbs, 60g of carbs, or 30g of carbs, and the rest was fat, the group that at the fewer carbs and, thus, more fat lost more weight than the other two groups and put on more lean mass, at the EXACT same calories and protein mind you as everyone else. >> No.12186275

Yes, I measure everything I eat and eat about 600-675 calories a day. Today I ate.
1 cup of English breakfast w/ 2tsp of sugar and 46g of whole milk (10.25 carbs total)
63g of uncured beef sausage
Half a low-carb tortilla (2.5 carbs)
57 grams of unpastuerized sauerkraut (2 carbs)
23g of salt kerrygold butter (I couldn't think what to put some of it on so I ended up eating some off a spoon)
30g of cheddar cheese
27g of gouda cheese
28g of spinach for potassium (0.4 carbs)
1/4tsp of salt

Basically, the way I am right now, I drink some tea because it helps with satiety and I'm still adjusting to coming down off carbs it it really really helps.

I eat some kind of sausage/hot dog w/ sauerkraut and mustard. Sauerkraut is low cal, low carb, and full of active probiotics if you get the kind with a vent in the bag.

Then some about 2 oz of aged cheese

Those are the constants, then some days I'll use the rest of the calories for nuts, cheese, or more butter.

I try to work in 1/4 tsp salt for sodium and an oz of spinach for potassium, two electrolytes that need to go up because you body uses them faster when it fuels itself with ketones.

Like I recently said I've notice the more fat I eat the easier it is to sail through the day without being hungry so I've pretty much given up nuts for extra butter.

>> No.12186288

Thanks. I'm going to check out some cheeses this weekend. I'm afraid of the calories though. I struggle to eat very low calories even on days I do a 24 hour IF fast.

I do eat carbs. I'd like to go HF/NoCarb but socially that would be really hard. I have been trying to learn to limit them more and more, and I watch out for added sugar.

>> No.12186295

For the social part - When you eat with other people, eat the same thing they do but keep your portion at 1/2 of what the thinnest person is eating.
Otherwise I get you, I lost 15lbs when I moved out simply because I was in charge of what food was in the house - no more chips, chocolates or cookies!

Is this label lucrative AF or is this not really that bad? I know it will still break a fast and spike insulin levels a little bit but in between meals (or even replacing one) would it be acceptable? Im working with keto and IF to try and keep my body in supreme fat burning mode.

6g of carbs. Not sure how that works with the 0 calories label.

And thanks m8. Really dont know how to handle this one, but if i can slam two of these a day and eat a huge omlette with a half lb of sausage and 3 eggs in it around noon thats all i really seem to nees for the whole day. Maybe a little snacky of a couple celery stix and some peanut butter. I lost 10 lbs in 3 days somehow doing IF and keto but it was my first 3 days doing it so might have been water weight. Lost only like a lb the next two days but didnt eat as well ie fucked up like 5 sushi rolls. Has anyone tried dieting with Huel? It makes you feel full because of the oats, has everything you need to survive and more, and you can lose weight and fat.
According to a friend of mine that just took a personal trainer course and looks like a wardrobe, it has enough fibre to make you lose weight and not be stored as fat.
I'm trying to go flat belly and I'll start living on my own next week, so I'll be only drinking Huel.

>> No.12186685

>you can't buy a sample?
Yes, you can. It's 4£.
I tried it and liked the vanilla flavour, so I ordered 2 bags. Finiished them and ordered 8 bags some days ago.
Apparently, from what I've been reading, Huel is the food substitute that tastes the best. Probably because they use oats and seeds instead of soy.
Wish I was paid to advertise it, to be honest.

>> No.12186736

No problem: https://huel.com/products/huel-100g-sample-pouch
I'd say go for vanilla instead of unflafoured, since you only get a few more calories and actually enjoy it. If you like oats and vanilla, you'll like it.
If you eventually plan on going with it, since you mentioned you're a poorfag, just go for the 8 bags subscription in order to have the maximum discount. That way every meal will be only 1.33£.

That was my problem for that while. I'd break my fast and then I'd just kinda stress-snack for the rest of the night. Best thing to do is to eat a decent amount, least for me, I eat all I'm going to eat in one meal, and then I drink a cup of water and then carry a coffee with me. So I try to get all 500-600 calories in that one meal. Any less and I'll definitely make poor diet decisions and eat something bad out of hunger later. So just kill it then, move on. Keep drinking water, remember frof, coffee isn't bad. If you smoke, smoke. Otherwise fill your phone with thinspo pics and browse that

>> No.12186997

Thanks. I've been doing the 24 hour thing. I think my big mistake today was my dinner was carbs and those don't really fill me up. tomorrow I'm going to try like protein and cheese and fat after reading this thread more. I'm afraid of the cheese though, since seems really easy to go way over my calories but I'll weigh and measure it all tomorrow.

>> No.12187001

Plan your meal beforehand.

For the exact same reason you don't go shopping hungry, don't prepare a meal off the cuff in order to break a fast. You will invariably eat too much.

>> No.12187036

Thanks. After eating all that pasta, I'm STILL hungry too. I think I need to eat more fat apparently?

>> No.12187045

In general eat way less carbs, and eat more fats and proteins. If you're eating carbs, try to make sure they're complex i.e. wholemeal pasta, wholemeal seeded bread, potatoes etc.t

In general the less processed the better.

Carbs are the least filling macronutrient.

Again, this is all much easier if you plan what you're eating beforehand.

>> No.12187059

Thanks. I think cheese might be good for me to eat because it's easy to measure. Tomorrow I'm going to go to Whole Foods and get some cheese, meatballs (fatty), quinoa (I'll just have a bit), and... not sure what else. Almonds?

I bought some turkey jerky the other day and that shit is bullshit. It's got almost as much sugar as it does protein and it's supposed to be health food.

>> No.12187104

Eat breakfast instead of dinner. It plays into the whole, "wake up, eat" routine that is ingrained in most of us and the cue of "I haven't slept today so its not time to eat again." I find its easiest for me to do that.

>> No.12187111

It's possible. Set goals that are health oriented rather than just skinny oriented. Don't target some super low bmi or anything. Eat enough calories, you know if your TDEE is 1800 I'd probably say you should still be eating 1300-1400 or so per day on average.

I'm far from an expert in recovering from eating disorders, but I don't see how counting calories is really that bad. I hate how the mental health industry thinks that recovering is doing things that other people that don't have a problem don't do. To me that would just isolate you from everyone else. Don't hyperfocus on counting them, but I don't see how counting calories is ill.

To me a lot of mental illness like this is not being good at operating in the gray areas. You can be lean without starving yourself.

I'm having nice success with low carb high fat dieting, and it's throwing the normies through a loop that I'm eating cheese and sausage yet losing weight.

>> No.12188115

Haha yeah I'm vegan (for ethical reasons) so I think adding low carb on top of that would be a bit restrictive if I'm aiming on staying recovered (not to mention difficult, although I know a lot of people who manage it)!

I'm hoping this bout of treatment is enough to help me be more balanced about my eating. Balanced in a healthy/slim way, not in the "getting fat" way that lots of people think balance means

>> No.12188120

Same position as you, but I've no treatment team. I can't imagine that, I think I'd struggle a lot with anyone telling me what to do, especially when they're telling me specific eating instructions

I fully believe you can maintain thinness without being disordered. Personally I wouldn't bother focusing on thinspo, it's really an abnormal aesthetic to aspire to and a bit of a pain in the ass to maintain, but that's just my taste, I get the appeal. besides, naturally I'd like to stay fairly slim too

Counting calories isn't the problem with eating disorders, but the way in which people count calories. Like, being obsessively precise or so afraid that you are unable to deviate from the habit, even when you want to.

>I hate how the mental health industry thinks that recovering is doing things that other people that don't have a problem don't do.

It's a lot better now that I'm allowed to eat whatever I want and just focus on reincorporating the foods I'm scared of eating. I'm not allowed to weigh myself or count calories though, which I'm planning on keeping up with until I leave treatment haha- I don't wanna be in treatment forever!
