I really like the look of the Omega Aqua Terra with a blue dial, went and tried it on and it's gorgeous but unfortunately out of my price range.

My budget is probably more around $2900 - $3000 USD

Stainless steel for sure, I think that gold (especially yellow) often looks tacky and platinum is out of my price range.

Round dial only, don't like square / rounded dials

I tried on a few different bracelets from mesh to NATO to steel and leather, I think that I'd like steel or leather.

My wrist is 6.5" circumference but I'm very thin at the moment so once I get back into the gym it'll grow, I tried on 38mm and 42mm watches and the 42s looked fine.

I'd very much prefer a new watch, the only used I could accept would be if it were in literally flawless condition, I hate the idea of buying second hand goods

Thanks for your help :)

They're both really bad brands. Stuhrling QC is legendarily bad. Invicta is a horrible brand - you'll find their logo on the case, the clasp, the crown, the dial, the second hand, ... But some Invicta watches do use decent movements (believe they have one based on the Seiko NH35 now) and mechanically will be fine.

Seiko Turtle/SKX007 or Orient Mako/Ray are standard baby's first mechanical diver.

Bought this at a pawn shop for $90. Sent it to Spencer Klein to be restored, keeping it as original as possible. The crown design on these prevents them from being 100% waterproof after a while, which I was paranoid about, so I sold it for ~$1200. The restoration cost about $400 with the replica rubber strap, so it was still an enjoyable experience. I used the money I made to buy a quartz Breitling to wear as a beater.

The SKX009 has a screw-down crown and is water resistant to greater depths (200m vs. 100m on the SNZF15).

It has an almost identical movement (7S26) to the SNZF15 (7S36). The only difference is the 7S36 has two more jewels, which I don't think do anything. That said, I have three Seiko automatics: an SKX013 (7S26), an SNK809 (7S26) and an SNZH55 (7S36). The one with the 7S36 keeps shit time, and I don't ever wear it. I might just have a dud, though.

I also think the 009 looks cooler. The crown is at 4 o'clock; I like the bezel, dial and hands more; and I like the five-link bracelet better, though don't expect it to be as rigid as a real jubilee.

However if it's perfect for you and you love it then cop. Junkers is decent as far as I know, but overpriced. Also some lines of their collection are made by the same factory with the same parts that make Ruhla watches for half the price. So keep that in mind. Maybe check what movement is in there and compare the price to other ones running the same.

Bambino because I don't like it when there are big numbers and clunky hands on a chronograph. But that's just a matter of taste. Also a timeless automatic is always a great choice.

Look into the Orient Monterey, it seems like a good compromise between them two. It runs the same movement and casing as the Seiko and has a similar design, but doesn't look as bulky because it has a domed crystal like the Bambino.

If your dad doesn't know anything about watches, that's a great one to give him. I don't have as much expertise as a lot of the guys here, but finding a durable automatic is gonna cost you magnitudes higher than that Edifice.

>> No.12058658

You say that, like it's a bad thing. Citizen makes Miyota movements for the watch industry, and while inexpensive, they are metal and extremely accurate quartz movements (over the mostly plastic Chinese knockoffs that aren't accurate and often fail).

A lot of serious collectors that keep top end mechanical and automatic watches in their cases, and wear a Seiko or a decent Orient quartz watch as their daily wear beater. They look good, and if the case and crystal are high quality stainless and sapphire, they last a long time without a lot of tuning and maintenance. When they eventually fail, replacing the Miyota movement is literally dirt cheap, and easy enough that any decent local watch repair shop can swap it out for a new one. When a top tier Swiss mechanical movement fails or starts to lose accuracy, it will cost you a lot more to repair or replace that movement, and you have to return it to the factory or find a reliable shop that specializes in mechanical Swiss watch repair!

Ive got a flawless vintage Hamilton and a Breitling dress watch that are brought out for special occasions, but my daily beater is a Citizen quartz that can take a beating, and still looks perfectly nice for casual wear.
