If you want to something to last through a thousand miles of wilderness, rocky roads, rain, mud and getting stomped and bent around, then no. Get a pair of Solovairs or some actual military-boots, or a pair of Corcorans would work well too. They look awesome when spit-shined too.

For walking around normally, Docs are okay. They take time to mold around your feet though so blisters are half-mandatory. I got a pair of 10-eyelets (1490's i think?) and remembering to balsam and clean them every now and then keeps them well. My pair however isn't the vintage-model that's supposedly the same as the old, better ones. Vintage-models cost up to +$200 a pair, so it'll be around $260 for steel-toe cap'd, 10-12 eyelets. Overall, if you want the brand, then go for a pair of vintage ones, but if you don't mind a slightly different branding, Solovair's look exactly the same but with a different colored tag.

I did as much research in possible. Nowhere in the US has these. German Ebay has a fuckton but some are overpriced and others don't ship to the USA.

I went to Bundeswehr-und-mehr store and found they had a sale for New condition for the same price as semi-worn. 80 euros. The shipping will be 40 if you live in the US. Sign up for their newsletter apply discount code and it'll knock another 9 euros off your order.

I've had three pairs of Doc Marten industrial boots for work - one's held up ok, two others were trash. On both pairs the soles cracked across the center on both boots letting water and moisture in - and in addition to the soles getting jacked up on the one pair the stitching on a seam blew out.

I will say that they stand by their shoes as a company - I mailed off the one fucked up pair and once they got them sent me a brand new pair.

Honestly, at this point if I could go back I'd just put the 120.00 or so I spent toward a pair of Thorogoods

They're even still for sale? they look slick as fuck and feel heavy & dark, and the velvet is warm, but soles are trash, durability isn't at all comparable to proper surplus. Got torn after just half a year of semi-heavy usage in chicago snow and basement raves - you can see it in the photo on the right foot; and little ugly chipping of the side notches. leather is really nice and supple on the tongue with a great grain, the upper more stiff but still breddy good. also side note but the laces are brutal, they'll tear up your fingers raw if you don't pay attention. I got them for like $160 on oki-ni's outlet site 3 years back, wouldn't suggest paying anything more than $250, 300 at the most.

your thread's got me thinking about getting the OGs what with winter coming up and those pair getting fucked in the sole as noted above (I'd take them in but the odd pattern where it's chipping makes me think it won't be such an easy resoling). and in general I greatly prefer the historical to the reinterpretation. stone island isn't what it used to be.

Anyone ever had boots taken in around the calfs? I know women do for ones that are held up by the calf so they don't fall down. Wondering how much I can expect to have these narrowed by. The seem may lend itself to this kind of modification. Obviously taking them in to my cobbler when they arrive, but I would appreciate any pointers I could offer him. I want them to fit circular and snug, not semi loose and oval. Luckily I have pretty good calf genetics also.

They may be selling factory seconds without telling you. Either way I think docs are pleb shit, but I know how expensive clothing can be auf Deutschland. I like Clarks desert Mali better but they are less substantial. The leather is thinner but much softer and higher quality and the sole isn't obnoxiously chunky, but it is a softer crepe sole that is comfy but also wears quicker. Really looking forward to having mine resoled with a vibram of my choice, it makes them look like combat boots. Otherwise I could keep the desert theme and put some saw tooth soles on.

To me the zipper kills it. Those boots have a classic aesthetic to them. If it was more of a fashion boot, zippers are fine. If they were new tech vibram-and-goretex-logos-on-the-side, again no problem. But IMO a zipper on a black leather, classic boot as such is an anachronism like having a headphone access port on a nice leather briefcase or stretch/spandex panels on a suit jacket.

It's called blousing you fucking autist, or just tucking them into the shaft of the boot. Wearing pants over your boots looks like shit and defeats the purpose of having boots.

Boots aren't meant to have the pants blouses over them. Military boots? Sure. But those are usually 8inches and above. Low cut boots like ones that resemble boondockers or desert boots aren't supposed to be blouses, but rather the pant is supposed to be tucked into the putee/legging that secure the calf that the boot diddnt reach.

Sup Solovair bro, about to cop these, $250aud shipped which I think is reasonable. Any tips re sizing? Think a straight 8 will do based off their sizing chart. Have slightly wide feet tho, pinky toe sometimes gets squished. 9.5us in my flyknits is perf.

Also, opinions of the 6 hole variant? Tempted to go the classic 8, but I feel these might have an edge versatility-wise. Stoked on the white stitching.

Straight 8 US? I'm an 8.5 US but solos come in 8 or 9 so I went for a 9. Dunno bout width though since my feet are average. Consider going wide.

At first I thought they were a little big, but really they were perfect.

I prefer the classic or more than 8, but I don't think a 6 is a bad choice if you're not into tucking/blousing.

Pic related.

Thanks anon.

Seems the last on is different on the 6 and 8 eye versions for some reason. Going off their charts I'd be a uk8 in the 6 and a uk9 on the 8.

Generally cuff, never really tuck. The more I think about it I might just get the classic 8 though. Work as a bartender so broken glass and shit is sometimes a concern, a little more ankle shielding wouldn't hurt.

Hopefully last question, any opinion on greasy leather vs hi shine? Tending towards greasy based on appearance, but concerned about care/durability.

>> No.12010376

>>12010334
I personally prefer greasy.

From my experience with corframs and shit it's easy to scuff. At least if you scuff the prior it's not gonna ruin the shine since there is no shine.

Depends on the boot and pants.

More extreme combat boots like S2Vs would look like shit when worn with bloused cargoes or even blue jeans (kek). Conversely, well-worn and fitted neutral-color jeans would look okay with something less pronounced, like a pair of Belleville minimalist boots that has seen some mileage.
