Depends what best looking means to you.

There are two material versions. SympaTex (German GoreTex), and the standard cotton/poly.

The cotton poly ones come in two versions pre-2005 and post 2005. The change in colors in the pattern is really down to personal preference. there are photos of both colors on the page.

If you are going for the 90% black look. (Black with pattern shape and color barely visible) The differences should be marginal. There are a lot of photos of these parkas dyed black, and I'd guess that 75% if not more of flecktarn parka surplus out there is pre-2005. So I think regardless of the version it will be about the same.

I'd imagine the only difference would be a slightly higher sensitivity to the black dye for the post-2005, because there is less color vibrance, and less contrast.

Just got off work. The jacket was already dry by the time I got back. It is a dark royal blue with its pattern visible. It is not so blue that it messes with a black fit imo. Will mull over the color as I try it out with different things. If I do go for another round of dye I will also post results.

Wanted to take a quick pic with fit. nothing fancy just a t. pants, and boots. Will take more in future if it's good.

Retoasting from last bread:

>I used Dylon black in the largest packet available on Amazon.
>I followed the instructions to dump the packet and 500g of salt into the washer bin with the damp parka.
>I actually didn't have enough salt so at most I had 400g salt of 300g at worst.
>Put the washer on delicates and warm (40 degrees celsius).
>Did second wash with detergent as instructed.

Mine just arrived today. I am super stoked as it fits me perfectly.

I got GR12. I am 6'1~6'2 (188cm), and 185lb (84kg) slim build but broader shoulder for an average slim build.

I ordered it from here as it shipped to Canada in only 3 days!

Any tips on removing the flags? I've read that they're pretty difficult to remove and the parka could easily be damaged and that is the last thing I want.

I am now waiting on dylon dyes to arrive so that I can dye them black.

I will try to post fits tomorrow or something.

Just follow the instruction, and then when you're done run it empty with bleach and detergent. I also put on some rubber gloves and used a bleach soaked rag to clean the inner rubber ring on my washer.

Wore my dyed parka today, was nice and all but I'm not used to wearing long parkas so I felt a bit awkward. Also I don't know what to do with the cord stopper yet.
For the dyeing, I did it like this:
>if the parka is dirty, wash it normally once
>put the dry parka into a bucket of water so it get's a bit wet
>put 350g Dylon in the washing machine (the package I used didn't need salt or anything else)
>put the parka on top
>washed it on 30°C
>wash it again with detergent on 30°C, I also put in some black clothes because why not
>ran the washing machine empty with a cleaner and cleaned the rubber afterwards
That's how I did it, there are other ways tho.
Pic has good quality and is a bit brighter than it actually looks. The flecktarn is also more visible in brighter light. >>11962320 is pretty accurate.

Old pic, but here's how mine turned out after dying.

I used two boxes of "Dylon velvet black" in one wash.
http://www.dylon.co.uk/products/dyes/fabric-dye-for-machine-use/velvet-black-2/#.WC9EqObhC9I

I knew I'd never get a full blackout since the parka isn't 100% cotton, but still I was expecting a little darker.
Right after I thought of dying again with some other method, but the camo pattern shining through really grew on me and I'm happy with the result now despite being a bit disappointed at first.

I did some research and found that the model I have probaly is from 1993 or earlier since it has brass buttons and cigarette pocket on the right sleeve and not the left. (It did come with german flags on the shoulders but I removed them).

Since the parka is pretty thin and meant to be worn over warmer layers, I just went for the smallest size I could find on ebay and got a size 3 (165 - 175 cm, chest 100 cm).
I'm 177 cm and weigh 64 kg and have lots of room in the chest and waist area. Sleeve length will probably be too short if you're any taller than me, or have orangutang arms.

As long as you're not /fa/t you should just go for the smallest chest size with the right length.

Cheers friends, hope someone finds this post useful.

...but without a washing machine? I don´t own my own and while I could use the one at my girlfriends place (dormitory), people are already going to war over these fucking machines so I don´t think they´d appreciate me using it 2-3 times to dye a parka.

Also, what about patches? My old parka had a Darkthrone - F.O.A.D - Patch on the back and I was thinking of re-using that one, changing the german Flags with those of Rohan and Gondor because I´m /lit/ as fuck and adding some other shit like the Kiki´s Delivery Service one, maybe the Psyops one if I get my hands on one and some other random stuff.
Can I make it work or is it hopeless?

mostly trying to make a joke because lit has been chosen as the "word of the year" - or at least one of the runner-ups, here in germany. Don´t ask.

Also, neither Rohan, nor Gondor are cities.
Also, I chose these to because a) Rohan is fucking neat and Gondor is a close runner-up and b) because they are amongst the few that actually have flags. Tolkien never really went into detail on how the flag of Nargothrond for example looked---

So I finally got a chance to dye it yesterday. I am not exactly sure if I am happy or not happy about how it turned out. I definitely expected it to be darker.

I used 4 Rit Powder Dyes (32g each pack) in a single cycle, no salt, or anything. Maybe I should have divided them into two batches.

I think this is at least good enough for now for me to wear them around while the Dylon dyes are being delivered (estimated to arrive on first week of Dec.)

Any thoughts, questions or recommendations? The photo is untouched other than the cropping.

The liquid is more concentrated than the powder. The strength of the dye is dependent on the amount of water used. Water should be at the maximum your garment can handle. Definitely use salt. It's too late for you but when I yell at new comers to read the thread they'll hopefully see this.
