but a denim jacket is more versatile.

I have no sherpa experience but type 3s seem to vary over the years. For instance I have one that I think is 80s. You know the "Vs" that come down from the breast pockets? There are hand warmer pockets and you put your hand in under the Vs. Not unconcealed like this one:
