>What is techwear
Urban Techwear is the futuristic, dystopian aesthetic centered around living in a city-like environment. Enabling the wearer to liberating movements and functionality that a commuter through an urban jungle would need. This is not to be confused with the whole; technical clothing, which is based solely on providing functional attire. With this broad definition, it allows designers to skew on what shape technical clothing takes. To remember it simply, technical clothing is broad and doesn’t take any form, urban techwear is just the name of the branch that gives its shape.

Skipping around the pound a bit on the sticky, I'm going to get a brand list up sometime this week. Here's our old brand list here: http://pastebin.com/wknV0hA7

Already I see a few problems with it, one example is in the discription of Outlier and our ability being unable to update it. Please recommend any changes and input on brands you'll like to see

Techwear is about using your environment to your advantage.

Techwear should be about making life easier, and reinforcing an idea of "using the right tool for the job"

While everyone else avoids the rain, you should be just fine running through it, or going out in heavy snow because you're wearing the right shit for it.

But- the aesthetic plays a role. You don't want to look like an alpine skier. (Whom wear bright colors for obvious reasons.) The aesthetic of techwear is to blend in with your environment and work with it to become seamless.

That's more of a philosophical take on things. In short- Plan ahead. Don't be stupid. Wear stuff that lasts and works.

Please note that I'm not implying color is bad. Infact, color is great, when it's done correctly. For instance, the Pink / Yellow Prestos are a perfect example or ACR's object dyed jackets. Adding those into a fit is a great way to add some life, and make you look less school shooter, and more, average person. Because that's the end result right? You want to look average but excel at it.

>> No.11751727

>>11751718
it's essentially the /g/ version of /k/ fashion, except with more aesthetic.

though I think bright colors should be limited to highlights, unless you're a bike rider, or skateboarder, in which case the bright colors serve a primary function of being noticed for safety reasons; especially during times of bad lighting.

There are a few outerwear pieces that have water resistant coatings sprayed on them, but they are not water proof and the coatings wear off super fast and re-applying it yourself is messy and doesn't last well.
The messenger bags just soak straight through in the rain.

This is all info I read off ACRNM threads online and in social media posts from owners complaining.

Conversely, you hardly ever hear of Veilance owners complaining. Maybe small issues, but nothing like ACRNM's weak build quality and lack of performance, despite it being the quintessenial techwear brand.

I don't know about the bags (even if what you're saying is not surprising) but when they do some stotz etaproof stuff, they mention it's not water proof but water resistant.
Of course tightly waved cotton will not be water proof but on the other side it's far more breathable than gore tex which is something some people might prefer over waterproofing.
The people complaining about acronym just don't care about the fabrics or the design, they just want the aesthetic.

Concerning the build quality it looks like you never handled/worn actual acronym garnments.

>> No.11752417

Just handled and tried on, never owned. I was not that impressed. Also you read a lot of horror stories about $1500 jackets needing repairs for broken zippers and shit after a few months and it taking eons for ACRNM to process those repairs.

I think breathability is over rated. If you are being active you are going to sweat no matter what. And if its cold and rainy outside then vinyl does just as nice a job being water proof as Gore-tex does and keeps the wind off you too. So I'd rather expensive shells be water proof or highly water resistant. It's sad if a $50 vinyl parka from a hiking store outperforms a $1500 ACRNM shell in actually keeping you dry.

>> No.11752420

It really depends on what you're doing but as someone who had soft-shells and hard shells to bike to work and around the city, I really prefer soft shells since it's shower proof and breathing a lot better.

I have the opportunity to buy some of these locally for cheap, but I don't really own any techwear items. I would like to start getting into it but I'm not sure how possible that will be (depends on if I work or continue at school next year). Would the middle or the left ones be better more applicable in more outfits, or I guess easier to pull off? It would be good if I can use them as I start to pick up some techwear items when they go on sale etc.

Might as well ask while I'm at it, what do you guys think of these brands?

If it's anything like adding acrylic to wool it makes it really soft to the touch and can stop it feeling itchy, other than that there is always different wool types like merino, llama or cashmere. As an aside, I would probably say merino is best for active stuff in the winter but I think llama feels the nicest against skin.
