There are plenty of STEM graduates who are autistic fuckups doing glorified data entry jobs. I know because the company I work for employs some of them.

A smart person can do well with just about any kind of degree from a good enough school.

At a shittier school, it makes sense to think of education as more like metal shop in high school. It's not so much preparing you to think and solve problems, it's more teaching you rote tasks that you can repeat in an assembly line type workplace.

The graph gear 1000 is hands down the best value for what you get mechanical pencil. Rotring 800 is goat, get in the silver color way as black has quality control issues.

I also carry a Muji fountain pen with a bock titanium nib, and a pilot custom 92 (clear skeleton demonstrator) I dropped it a few days ago and the nibs fucked, planning to replace that as well

Fuck I love me some pens.

Seconding the Kuru Toga, I love it. Kinda wish it wasn't made partially out of plastic, but whatever, at the price it's solid as hell. Another very easy-to-find option is a Zebra M-301, which are common and cheap enough to carry and lose.

I've used but have not purchased a Rotring 600, they are fucking great, but ditto on that edgelord coloring. Kinda wish it was just pure steel or something.

Don't let the autists with extremely detailed daily cleaning rituals scare you, I've been using the same pen for a year with just a little water rinse every few weeks or so and it works fine. Just wash it out really well if you're switching from one ink to a different one, that's the only thing that can make a pen clog up or write weird.

currently using pilot metropolitan for writing. i clumsily dropped it and broke the nib so i replaced it with the nib from a penmanship. this one's extra fine so i can write on shitty paper with no problem.

for paper i'm using rhodia lined pads. i staple my notes for the day then compile them on folders based on the subject. its a pretty lightweight set up compared to carrying loads of notebooks, imho.

I really like heavy sturdy feeling pencils, Rotring 600 is nice and heavy and looks great, but it loses points because of the stupid tip that doesn't retract and the cheap plastic internals. The graphgear 1000 just isn't as cool looking, but it's pretty much better in every way.

What's the best ink color? I really like blue-blacks, they're not a weird color so it's acceptable to use it on pretty much anything but they look classier than just a plain blue or black.

I'm working through a bottle of Noodlers 54th Massachusetts and it's a really nice dark color, but the ink has a weird paint smell and it seems to dry out and get kind of crusty on the nib. I tried a sample of pic related and it's also really nice looking, but I'm trying to finish the bottle I have before I get a full bottle of another one.

Binding's robust enough you technically don't need a separate cover for it (they look good though), and the cover's flexible. The paper makes it a whole lot thinner than you'd normally expect from a page a day planner. You talking about a TN Passport cover? I think the sizes aren't too far off, maybe the Hobonichi is a little bigger, and of course a lot thicker.
