Some Timex models might stand up to it.
Personally I use a 20gbp casio when working with my hands, climbing or innawoods but if you want a truly indestructible watch look at Elliot Brown.
They're not cheap but they're designed to survive round the world yacht races (one of which they currently sponsor)

Investment initially. I got them right when the price started to rise, I bought in at $2500 and the last time I checked this goes for ~4-5k on ebay now. I'm hoping these go the way of other discontinued rolex designs and hit many multiples of the original price.

But, I wear it everyday and love it. Even though it's quartz the movement is still a masterpiece. I also like the story and rarity of it as well. Plus it's kind of a Rolex, Seiko, AP design which I also think is cool.

Also another plus/minus is people who see it up close but don't ask about it assume it's fake because its a Rolex that ticks and the rappers told em Rollies don't tick tock.

My new Seiko SNXS79 is great.

Cost me 70 euro or so delivered, is fully automatic, fit and finish is perfect (I couldn't find something off with it, alignment-wise in the face), the bracelet which is considered thin and cheap is one of the best bracelets for me because it's thin and more comfortable than others.

It's a small watch compared to other modern ones, but it fits my 7 inch wrist perfectly.

I like the brushed bracelet look, very much, it's like male jewelry but I have to go with a beige 2 piece nato for comfort. Hopefully it will get delivered this week.

Watchmasters of /fa/, give me some input here.

Considering to buy this for my brother's 20th birthday.
http://www.seiyajapan.com/collections/seiko/products/seiko-automatic-presage-sarx019

It's $668 and from what I've gathered, Seiko is one of the best entry level manufacturers and is well respected among watch collectors and enthusiast
Does that sound right? I know very little about watches and want to give my brother something that will last both when it comes to manufacturing quality and style.

>> No.11734043

The Presage line has been phenomenal for me. I own the SARY055, and the SARB035 (not presage however). The SARB has the 6R15 movement, and my Presage has the 4R36. Both are very similar in structure, design and mechanics. The main difference between the 4R and 6R is the mainspring. The 6R has an updated barrel and Spron mainspring. This gives the 6R around 50hrs PR over the 40ish of the 4R. Now, I only am saying this because the Presage lines uses both 4R and 6R, but I wouldn't be deterred from getting either, because both are entirely functional, reliable, and accurate, just one has a longer power reserve. IMO the finishing on some of the Presage line watches are phenomenal, specifically my SARY055, the finishing on the case and dial is greater than my Omega, Tissot, Oris, etc, and it is really on par with a multi thousand dollar luxury Swiss piece. So from the watches I've owned and seen from the Presage line, they are a really good value in general.

Now whether your brother likes the design, or brand, is a different story. But there is absolutely nothing offensive about gifting someone a watch. That is utter non-sense. It is incredibly common overseas and among the more affluent. Good luck regardless. FYI over the last 14 days my SARY lost an average of -2.8 seconds per day, with a deviance no greater than 2 seconds per day, operating well within COSC's standards. Good luck!

It's within 10 seconds per year. There's literally nothing wrong with quartz when it's Seiko's high end quartz. The watches end up thinner, lighter and won't get destroyed by dropping or magnetism. The watch you have is a quartz watch. The most that you have to do for watch repair is replacing the battery or the crystal. If you want to repair mechanical watches you need good tools. There's a Bergeon quick service toolkit for $220.

If you want to do mechanical watches look into the timezone watch school. You can buy kits for ~500 and the course itself is 75 I believe and it will teach you how to completely assemble and disassemble a mechanical watch

It's most likely overpriced for the movement and material its made out of, it's a fashion watch made to look good. Do a bit more research and get yourself one that is better quality movement and material. Do some research.

That's kind of what I expected from TH, but I though fuck it. Also why I'm surprised how well it has held up. Not a single scratch or any other problem.
I wear it at work and I recently was at a music festival where I wore it during very heavy rain showers.

Although most modern Rolex watches are tacky af, I absolutely love their previous older (Datejust 1 I think) Datejusts with fluted bezels.
It would be the perfect first watch because of how versatile it is. The only problem is that they are expensive af (used obviously) and I dont really wanna buy a used watch as a first watch since I am not an expert and dont wanna get fucked over with maintenance costs.

Tudor updated their "Style" model and they are available with fluted bezels. But the date window is fugly and looks out of place and they are also expensive af, just the steel bracelet costs 1k yurobux and the watch 2.8k I think.

Just spend the 3k and get a great condition used 1601 with box and papers

That's what I'm doing

You just need to do some research first. It will make it more worthwhile in the end.

Save, buy a brand new oyster or oysterdate with a fluted bezel and enjoy the nice feeling of knowing you were able to buy a brand new rolex and experience their customer service.

Not previous anon, but damn.

Luxury sales reps are just a bunch of plebs who can't hide their attempts to gauge ones spending potential.

Thanks. I am always drawn to buying a beautiful used datejust and I will probably end up buying one anyway. I am looking for a good watch for more than 2 years and my absolute favorite is still the Rolex.
I really need to do some research first like you suggested since I dont know anything about the differences between the various models.

Where did you get your information? Forums?
