For anyone looking for fragrance suggestions, give as much information as possible about what you want.

Helpful info could include gender, price range, climate/season, need (work/clubbing/etc.), notes/families you like/dislike, and other perfumes you've tried and liked/disliked.

If you're not a super manly-man, then hell yea go for it. I think Black Orchid is mostly unisex, with a slight lean towards feminine. I've worn a sample of it a time or two, and I love it. I love Dior Homme, Midnight in Paris, La Nuit de L'Homme; so a lot of my favorites are on the more androgynous side, vs. being super masculine.

>cross between lacoste white
Huh? I don't see where you're getting that from

By the way, the longevity is unreal. Especially the way it sticks to your clothes. I sprayed some on my chest once, went out to do a few things, came back and took my shirt off and hung it back up (I didn't sweat or anything so it was still clean). I didn't wear that shirt again for probably two weeks. I put it back on, and I was like wtf, this shirt smells amazing what fragrance is this? I spent a few minutes looking through my collection trying to figure out what I was smelling and then finally remembered that I had worn Black Orchid two weeks ago and I was still smelling it quite strongly on the shirt. Amazing stuff.

If you enjoy wearing them, then make it an "accessory." If you can't be bothered having multiple bottles for multiple occasions, then get one for just special occasions.

I would advise against having only one fragrance that you wear every day, however. Because most fragrances aren't that versatile, and will seem out of place in certain scenarios. For example, Spicebomb for a day at the beach. Or wearing Bvlgari Aqva for a suit & tie event.

I personally enjoy accessorizing my scent with the occasion, time of day, season, etc. & collecting is fun as long as you're smart and don't get caught up in blind buying. And try to only keep bottles that you truly love. I ended up having quite a few that were just "meh," but I've since become smarter about it and sold off the stuff that I never wore.

Valentino Uomo when I cbf wearing Dior and although I find it sweet and quite unisex it feels different enough to to have an air of sophistication.
Guerlain L'Homme L'Eau Boisee - When I want something a little more mellow than GV or super masculine vetiver scents but still want that well blended fresh vetiver Guerlain does so well.
Chergui by Serge Lutens is my favourite warm me up fragrance for the winter its rich and dense and I can understand that diaper smell, I thankfully don't get it but overall it just seems like a safe niche for the most part that creates comfort for those around.

Is Dior Sauvage really that good? Everyone seems to love it here and reviewers on Youtube love it now. But all the reviewers hated it on release and changed their opinions eventually. I don't get how a majority of people can go from hating a fragrance on release to now loving it. Plus that dislike bar on Fragrantica.

>> No.11591370

>>11591328
it was mostly disliked here, too, at release. part of the reason it's liked more now is that this thread is less niche than it used to be, and typical 4chan contrarianism from the popular opinion that it was mediocre.

the BN/Fragrantica crowd hated it because of an irrational reaction of "wtf this isn't like muh eau sauvage!? how dare they use the name of that classic scent for this safe, nondescript crowdpleaser!"

i think the mainstream turned because of (paradoxically) limited, distinctly different options in accessible designer scents for all-weather everyday scents (people were getting tired of L'Homme, Terre d'Hermes, etc.) that you can run to a mall and cop with little thought or trouble. they wanted something new, and everyone turned to it, and word-of-mouth/mob mentality followed so once a few people heard it was actually good, those people followed.

It's good because the smell is pleasant and it performs well.

Fragrance snobs activated their autismo mode when it came out because it didn't develop into 3 seperate stages with dozens of notes jumping out. They were offended because Dior wanted a nice mainstream fragrance.

Now people start to appreciate it for what it tries to be.

These are the vetiver-focused fragrances that I own full bottles of, listed from favorite to least favorite :
Sel de Vetiver
Etro Vetiver
Guerlain Vetiver
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
Lalique Encre Noire / EN Sport
Guerlain Vetiver Extreme
Molecule 03 / vetiveryl acetate
Prada Infusion de Vetiver

GV and TFGV are both great frags which showcase Vetiver nicely. I find that GV skews more soapy in scent with its white florals, and I like how its vetiver is dirtied up a bit by the accompanying tobacco note. The citrus in TFGV is less sweet than GV's, and with no white florals the scent is more dry overall. It's a lovely, grassy grapefruit Vetiver, and comparatively smooth. Definitely a worthy cop and high quality fragrance. The EDP lasts a full work day for me.

Everything above EN on my list is a love, and my only dislike is the Prada. If you don't know whether you enjoy vetiver, go with GV. It's cheap and fantastic and it's the ubiquitous fragrance in the category. I'd cop Etro Vetiver next for a dirty and natural take on the grass, unadulterated by citrus and flowers. Then Sel de Vetiver if you can afford it, which is incredible. Salty and earthy and floral, almost like a vetiver liqueur.

Whats a good fragrance to get for my girlfriend? Is it even ok to buy a perfume as a gift, because she might not like it (even if i get a deal so she can return it and get another one)? Luckily we have pretty similar noses, she likes my Le Male (yea i know its mall tier (gaul-tier heheh)) and my old spice whitewater deodorant but these are scents she probably likes on a man, idk. She usually smells a little fruity but thats mostly because she hasnt yet found a good scent. I remember some kenzo stuff smelled great, my mother had it but wouldnt like her to smell like my mother... so i'm looking for something not every girl wears but not that rare that i cant find in a regular perfumerie store. Also something i wont go bankrupt on buying. Been thinking of getting some of the best testers, scenting some stuff and trying her now and then and asking about the smell trying not to be too obvious

Has anyone tried Tuxedo by ysl?

I wore it for a day and i'm not 100% on it as of yet.

Also, what are your thoughts on Aventus for Her?

I currently wear Sycomore.

My progression was as follows:
-Aventus (one of my first frags, huge regret, sold it after a couple weeks)
-Noble Leather
-Noir de Noir (my go-to for quite a while)
-Sycomore

With a few randoms in between (plum japonais for eg.) Overall I fit with the feminine fragrances.

as a whole, all the frags are well blended and last fairly long on the skin with moderate projection

most of the womens frags are yankee candle tier or smell like a knick knack shop at the mall. they've also all been incredibly cloying, even the few i thought were ok.

Cio Cio San is the only womens fragrance i've liked yet. Very fruity and floral, and the litchi works well with the other notes.

i've mostly worn the mens so far..
invasion barbare (the flacon) is a dope fougere that smells super barbershop at first but as it wears longer the cardamom becomes more prominent. it's super safe and super pleasant which is why i got it to wear to work

Ambre Topkapi is my other favorite. the musk disappears after the drydown and it turns in to this light woody fresh slightly fruity scent on my skin. it isnt really anything special and i certainly wont buy a full flacon, but i can see myself finishing this sample first

chypre palatin is neat but i think im going to wait til colder weather to form an opinion on it. same with cuir garamante.

Overall my impression of the house is that none of its frags were made for people under the age of 40.

So I'm right, got it. I can pinpoint every post you make, that's how generic they are. Put some more thought into your recommendations if you're going to try to dish them out. If not, then don't.

>>11607508
I would say to try Fat Electrician by Etat Libre d`Orange. The vetiver has that "dark" scent with the marron glace, vanilla, and whipped cream that adds the sweetness. Vetiver Oriental by Serge Lutens is in a similar category, vetiver with some chocolate behind it and less sweet amber, iris, and labdanum.
From my experience, when people say "dark" they mean earthy fragrances with heavy woods and dirt notes, Earth essentially. Encre Noir is a popular dark fragrance for example.

What I'm saying is that they don't go hand-in-hand, and you don't *only* have to recommend really expensive stuff. I'm sure there is something at a lower price point that will suit him well, and he may not have access to a place where he can try TF and Montale in the first place. Not everyone can fo ro Neiman Marcus either.

This for dark. But EN isn't one bit sweet. Maybe try some on the Dior Homme line, The original and intense are more on the sweet side, while the parfum would be "darker".

Recommend me some frags for winter. Daytime and/or nighttime

Here's some stuff that doesn't cut it and why:
DHI: I love it. But it's not something I'd wear. Too deliciously sweet for me. Would love it on a woman
La Nuit: I just don't get it. It smells unremarkable. And I don't mean unremarkable as in pleasant but boring, it literally smells entirely neutral to me, except when it gets cloying
Boss bottled: Classic. I like it. But I think it's a tad too fresh. More of a spring/fall scent. Also I'd like something that hasn't been a safe default choice for men for 20 years
Interlude Man: I actually really like this smell. But it's not something I'd wear

Masculines are fucking boring to me now. Wore a sample of Aventus today and even though I can tell it's well-blended, I can't stand it. Is it the oakmoss? idk I'd rather smell like something nostalgic and comforting than project a show-off chad smell. I mean if you want to smell "manly" Aventus is the best way to do it probably, but why settle for that? It's just uninteresting.

Even though I know I'll probably get flamed I'm wondering if anyone else feels similar.

that's a rather narrow preconception. what do you think of woody fragrances then?

and as for Aventus, all the birch and moss give a strong masculine bent, countering the sweetness, and personally, in general, I don't think it could work on a woman
