I've yet to really find a year-round signature. I live in the southeast U.S. where it gets really hot and humid in the summer, and then decently cold in the winter.

If I had to pick one, it would be Dior Sauvage. I don't wear it on extremely hot/humid days, but other than that I think it works well in all seasons.

Mine is Rose 31. It's fresh and sweet (but never cloying!) in the summer and woody and warm and comforting in the winter.

Generally I always liked switching up my frags from season to season, preferring light citrusy scents in the summer and gourmands for winter, but this is one of the first I find works year round.

Any experience or opinions on solid colognes?

I'm soon to go on a jaunt around europe for a few weeks and am intrigued by the idea of liquid-less scents; would certainly remove the hassle glass bottles and liquids add to packing and traveling these days.

They seem fedora to me, but I can't deny the practicality of them,or at least the idea of them. Lighter, no chance of breaking or spillage and they get around the checked-in liquid limits.

But do any of them actually smell nice?

I would imagine that one could just recreate that shit at home, the one in the pic, alfred lane, only uses natural waxes and oils.
But apparently then with these kinds they retain that base waxy/earth scent.

There's some other brand that does away with the waxes and nature shit and is pure scent.

They're meant to last for ages, and apparently you only need very little in regards to application.

Never tried that shit, just what I've read which is why I'm asking here.

Wearing Armaf Club de Nuit Man Intense today because I gave my bottle of Aventus to my dad on Father's day.

CDNMI is not even close to Aventus. Not at the opening, and not at drydown. I don't even know whether Armaf intend for this to be a clone, it's so far off. It's not horrible after it settles down for half an hour, but it's no Aventus.

To salvage the wear, I've added a few sprays of La Yuqawam. Together, CDNMILY actually layer very nicely.

If people who haven't been right next to you for a few minutes can smell it than you've applied too much.

I do one spray straight to the chest right after the shower. The general rule of thumb is one to three sprays. Different areas of your body release different amounts of heat and has different types of skin that will smell different on their own but also interact with each perfume differently.

Fragrances, if you have yet to notice, are all about subtlety. This means that you need to do a lot of experimentation. Try different perfumes on different body parts. There is no magic area to spray in order for the bitches to notice it. Just remember that for every person who mentions out loud how nice you smell, there are another dozen who are silently noting to themselves that you have put too much cologne on.

You don't want to rub fragrances in, you just want to apply, so don't do two "squirts" and rub it all over your body. Fragrances are very delicate chemically and rubbing destroys them. It can make a good fragrance smell bad.

Try one spray to the chest then ask a friend what they think. It will go a lot quicker than waiting for compliments. I like spray to the chest because the fragrance will get into your clothes, making them last much longer, and at the same time you are applying to a relatively warm area of the body with a diversity of skin types.

Hi /frag/! Help me pick up my first serious perfume maybe?
20, girl but not really femminine, climate is hot in summer and pretty cold in winter.
I'm looking for something that's versatile but I would gladly try some unique scents. I don't like anything sweet or "heavy" (grandma perfume, idk how to describe it) I'm also pretty meh on minty/very green scents.
I've tried on the black CDG play cologne and really enjoyed the pepper note. I'm also intrigued by CDG3, I'm an artist and I love the concept of it smelling like pencil shavings/graphite, sadly I can't find a sample for it

Terre D´hermes seems to have a high concentration of an ingredient named Iso E Super.
Iso E Super is a synthetic ketone fragranceand is a very common perfume ingredient, providing a sandal/cedarwoody-like fragrance.

I bought it very cheap with some cosmetic hairwater (alcohol for perfume mixing) and for 24 euros I got two 50 ml bottles of Iso E super. I hit my bare chest with one, one on each wrist, one on left & right side of my neck, and sometimes if the scent is a bit light, I'll do a final spray on my chest with my shirt on to help with longevity.

You just have to decide what you're going for. Do you want people to notice? Do you want the confidence boost of random people telling you you smell amazing? Then spray it on generously. If you're gonna be self-conscious that you're choking people out, then spray less.

And if you are wearing perfume for the art of it, then you shouldn't be concerned about attention/compliments because 90% of these niche brands with obscure accords are gonna go unnoticed.

But, unless your fragrance is in a flacon, or you can completely open the top of your bottle, there's no way around this. You stick the atomizer stem into the bottom of the Travalo and pump the fragrance in there. So it "squirts" more than it atomizes.

The first thing I do with any new fragrance is to fill a 5ml travel decant. Perfume sprayers are all different - some (Dior, Bond) allow you to slowly pump juice without any atomization at all, while others (Versace Signature) are nearly all mist with every press. Either way what's more important is that you seal the decant vial tightly to prevent air seepage or leaks, as that's what causes fragrance to go stale.

Really you shouldn't be so paranoid about that. For one thing, the chances of that happening are really slim unless you're wearing Aqua di Gio, Cool Water, Le Male, or one of the ultra-mainstream fragrances like that.

And even so, if that is your biggest concern, there are plenty more unique and obscure fragrances out there that you can delve into if you feel so inclined. IMO, the sweet spot is to wear something semi-recognizable without being one of the obvious ones I listed above. Otherwise people may not even be aware that you are wearing anything. They'll just think something smells like a pile of burning leaves and pencil shavings.

Trying to think of other good fragrance/compliment stories, but most of them aren't stories, it's just times I've gotten compliments.

There is one other time though, that again involved Sauvage (sorry, but the hype is real on that shit. It's gotten me the most compliments by far out of everything I own). I think this is a good story to tell, because it shows you that people often times notice your scent without giving you a compliment (although I got compliments in the end).

Walked down to a local bar/restaurant, semi-upscale place. I was by myself, and it was a weekday so the place was kind of slow. Saddled up at the bar, and ordered a drink. It was just me, and two women at the bar. They're in their late 30's. Long story short, they invite me to come sit next to them and I end up chatting with them for the next couple of hours. One of them in coming on to me pretty blatantly. Anyway, to make a long story short, when it was time to go, I gave them both hugs and one was like "it was so great to meet you! blah blah blah! oh, and you smell amazing!" and the other chimed in "omg you're right, he does smell amazing!"

So again, that goes to show you that they obviously had noticed already that I smelled nice, and it took them the entire evening to tell me out loud that they liked it. Whereas they could've just been thinking it all night and never told me. You know? So some times if you're worried that people aren't picking up on your frag, chances are they probably are unless you're wearing something really close to the skin. Sorry for the blog post, hope it was at least interesting to someone.

Yea any designer brand is going to be mainstream to an extent, but there are certainly different levels of popularity. And that, also, will be affected by where you live. For example, here in the southeast US, not a single person that I've ever come into contact with has been aware of or familiar with the house of Guerlain even though they are a staple of the fragrance world and been around forever.

Just like others have stated, the only fragrances I've ever detected on people are Cool Water (or a fragrance that is copying cool water), Acqua Di Gio, Le Male, Spicebomb a couple times, and (this may be more for my region/country) Abercrombie's Fierce.

Light Blue is certainly popular in that it's from D&G, it is easily accessible, it had a decent marketing campaign put behind it, etc. But I've literally never smelled it on anyone, nor have I ever heard somebody talk about it.

Alot of reviewers actually do this. Also tastes differ with different women. It's all about what you want to express and attract. In college I've been with a classy turkish girl who loved my Amouage and other oriental scents, while in the weekends another girl would prefer 1 Million, Dior Sauvage and other cheap smelling scents over for example Creed Royal Oud, which is a favorite of my current date, and to who I pretend I got money lol.

I sincerely believe in choosing a fragrance which suits you personality.
If you want to attract a girl who has petty taste, or one that matches yours, its all up to you.
Also get Royal Oud. It's the best fragrance ever.

Dude, honestly, I waited around and eventually copped a bottle off a FB group for $40 and it still isn't really worth it. The longevity is truly one of the worst I've experienced, along with D&G The One. GPH2 does smell great though, sometimes I'll spray it on if I'm just running some casual errands / don't really need to wear a frag, just want to for my own enjoyment.

I used to share that opinion, but the more I watch his vids, it's kind of bullshit. Because he's approaching random passers-by and throwing a camera in their face and asking them if they think this fragrance is sexy. To me, that's not an accurate representation of how the frag is really going to perform for you in the "real world." Even one of his most recent ones where he did JPG's new Le Male/Popeye, the reactions weren't even that enthusiastic. "Yea, smells good." and "Mhm, that's sexy." And at the end of the video Jeremy says "See, the ladies love this!" . . . Not really, my man...

A buddy of mine used to have this whole strategy where he would wear Flowerbomb Extreme because "if women smell something they recognize they'll feel more at ease and will become more open to talking to me etc."

He had really good success with it actually but in retrospect, now that I know a thing or two about fragrances, the reality is that Flowerbomb is really popular, really potent, and pretty much universally liked. On top of that, it's rather unisex. So of course people were going to think he smelled good, and it had nothing to do with any psychological effect it had on people due to it being a womens fragrance. The funny end to this story is that he's married now and his wife made him stop wearing it because she has insecurities about him being a closet homo.

I loved Tuscan Leather. It was my favorite. I feel very confident wearing this and badass.

I loved Noir de Noir. I feel like layering this with Tuscan Leather would go great together.

Tobacco Vanille and Vetiver were just "meh" to me. Vetiver seems the more versatile fragrance of the two mehs. Tobacco Vanille just smelled way to old farty. Vetiver smelled like those hand wipes you get after eating baby back ribs.

Italian Cypress is a "meh" towards more "bleh". Idk I could maybe see myself wearing this if I dressed more high class Yacht club type of style. Not necessarily bad just not me.

Now the two I thought was absolutely disgusting. Neroli Portofino smelled like a gypsy whore house with a bunch of fat italians eating submarine sandwiches. I don't think this fragrance was ment for white people.

Oud Wood was absolutely nauseating . I couldn't have it on me without gagging. A disgusting rotten smell from it.

When I get more cash flow coming in, I'm definitely going to pick up a bottle of Tuscan Leather. If I had more money to burn I'd also pick up Noir de Noir. Anyone recommend anything else I should try?

Not too much love for it when I got it either. It smelled too clunky and immature. It has grown on me since then though. Smells like the oil of bergamot in earl grey tea mixed with the original frag and grounded with the common woody base in men's scents. I think it kicks ass but strictly casual wear for me. The AdG dna is just too douchey to be worn formally.

Not the best, but pretty good. It's like a freshly snapped branch, still moist and green and aromatic around the outside, but you get that dry woody center along with it. Dust that with pepper and you get Royal Oud. As with the other Creeds though, it's pretty fresh and inoffensive. Personally I prefer something riskier.

I get what you guys are saying. But I still enjoy that he atleast goes out and get girls opinions. In some videos he gets a more intimate dialogue from girls as the whole video is focused on their reviews and they are more comfortable. I think this stuff is underrated. Sort of like the original but with a sportier vibe and only costs like $30 for 4.2oz. If I smoke a cigar I like this stuff to mask the smell.
