>cousin comes up to me the other day and tells me "anon, the posters in /fa/ HATE how you dress
>i asked why and he said im a "2011 kid"

I understand the meme, i live in SF and pretty much all of the people around my age dress like me so ive come here to see if its true

Pic related is what i usually wear and my hairstyle

I NEVER take off my hat, not because i like wearing hats, only because i hate my haircut and i can never find a good cut

Why do you guys hate the way i dress? My cousin dresses in "jogger pants" witch are basically leggings and wears a retarded looking poncho/sweater, why do you think this is /fa/?

>almost all of the people within my citys age group i know and see dress similar

You have the wrong mentality if you want to start improving your appearance. You want to blend in. You desire being bland. You want to be safe.

Fashion is about expressing oneself. We WANT to break free from what is normal. We understand that how you dress reflects what you think of yourself. I see insecurity when people only feel comfortable dressing similarly to the mass. You've even shown us a bit of this insecurity by telling us how you don't like your haircut. It's a good thing you don't like your cut, because that's the first step you need in order to make a change in your life.

I'm going to make some recommendations for you. I'm going to be shit on for directing you to these places, but I truly feel they are good resources for beginners like yourself.

https://www.youtube.com/user/AlphaMconsulting/videos?flow=grid
Watch as many Alpha M videos regarding clothing as you can. His advice is pretty generic and there isn't much room to express yourself with his teachings, but it will do you no harm. I honestly recommend that you spend several weeks looking through his videos.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MaleFashionAdvice
Literally don't look at any of the posts there. It's all shit. Only look at the guides in the sidebar.

Making dress decisions based on your knowledge of those two links will put you leagues ahead of everyone else.

We at /fa/ strive for more unique appearances that reflects our personalities. Start lurking here once you have months of experience studying the two links I provided. /fa/ is step two in your stage of enlightenment.

Also, your cousin is a fuccboi. Don't wear joggers.

btw, I like what you said here >>11314975. You shouldn't want to dress like anybody. Once you've got the basics of fashion down (again, the two links I've provided) you should start browsing here to explore new ideas. Some threads here will appeal to you, some won't. That's the beauty of fashion. Unless you're a hypebeast who wears full Rick Owens or Supreme, no one dresses the same. We are all different people with different tastes collaborating on one board.

You've got to be the nicest guy on 4chan witch is unfortunate 90%of this website is just fighting.

Ive grown to liking my style of dressing, sure i like to stay in the safe zone, not out of fear of standing out, but because im used to being in this position of style

Sure i can admit i have insecurities, such as my weight and my haircut, but i am working to change both, my haircut in specific is because when i was growing up my father would not allow me to grow my hair longer than an inch, and now that im older (19 btw not underage b&) i can freely choose my haircut, but without those younger years of experimentation, i never got to get a proper feel for a good cut.

I will Most def check out those links suggested because you phrased it in a way that i never thought of before, and thats to be unique, i never really considered dressing a form of uniqueness, i based how unique you are on your personality.

Im 19, a city boy , i skate frequently, and i love urban culture / skate culture / graffiti culture, so i will always retain that whenever i dress and express myself.

Thanks for all the advice anon

No problem bro. Keep in mind, don't be influenced by trends or what other people tell you. As others have already stated, your cousin has already failed. He has taken our opinions way too seriously. We're thinking for him. The most /effay/ thing you can do is dressing how YOU want with confidence.

> i like to stay in the safe zone, not out of fear of standing out, but because im used to being in this position of style
We are all guilty of that (even many people on this board). It's a basic human trait to avoid change. Change is bad, because change is risky. You may mess up, but that is okay. Nothing good in life comes easy.

>Im 19, a city boy , i skate frequently, and i love urban culture / skate culture / graffiti culture, so i will always retain that whenever i dress and express myself.
Hell yeah dude. Pic related reminds me of all those things. Looking at inspo and WAYWT (what are you wearing today) threads helps with finding new ideas.

All of my style reflects skate culture from the last 5 years, mainly because san francisco is a huge skate city and having a friend/friends who skate here is really common so the cultures widespread

Honestly as long as your jeans are straight, slim, or skinny the rest is fine. I can see it working fairly well and I'm sure you're comfortable in it. I like the thrasher hat but you better skate lol. Like it's not "fashionable" as you're not pushing any boundaries or purposefully trying to look interesting. But by no means does it look bad. It's inoffensive and you probably pull it off fine. I dig the jersey desu but that's just because I appreciate street and skate style

figures considering he's new af and gave you some godawful advice. obviously one of those tards who are just starting to "get into fashion" themselves and regurgitating advice to help reinforce it in themselves.

there's nothing wrong about dressing to blend in and only children think fashion is simply "expressing yourself". dressing with social context in mind isn't just completely normal, it's fundamental.

If skating is part of your lifestyle, then dressing in runway gear would just be undermining yourself, even if it's "expressing" your taste in clothes.

but there's still a question of just developing an aesthetic sensitivity to clothing. like you don't need to devote yourself to anything but at least try not to walk around looking offensive. you aren't wearing bright blue tees and red chinos, so why baseball tees? they're trashy as fuck. they make you look like a boring, overgrown manchild.

why not just wear a coach jacket or something? coach jackets and dickies aren't just a meme trend, there's a reason people skate in them, they're functional as fuck. but manage to look good too.

just pay attention to other people's fits and think about what you think looks good and what doesn't, develop your own taste. like, why wear skinny jeans over relaxed ones, or trousers, etc.? it's kind of dumb to have the excuse that you never even thought about it, since it's something that you're engaging with every single day of your life.

& yea you're cousin's a faggot but you still dress like a chode. usually skaters look pretty slick but I guess SF is autist central. better than NYC fuckboys I guess

first, they're not functional at all, you can barley lift your arms above your head and that restricts like 60% of skate movement
two, san francisco is the WORST city with weather, you can be in the blazing hot sun one hour, and the next it will be pouring raining, so when i go to skate i conform to weather standards not fashion standards

Im also not really searching for how to better my clothing choice, i was just looking for why "you guys hate me"

>Who said anything about him skating in runway gear?
The newfag saying fashion is about expressing yourself. I'm pointing out that it's retarded to let 'expressing yourself' conflict with your daily activities. Clothes aren't posters on your wall, you have to be realistic.

>hurr durr u shuld just wear an nice jacket!
I'm just telling him to catch up with skatewear. Drop the name

>>11316896
>first, they're not functional at all, you can barley lift your arms above your head and that restricts like 60% of skate movement
You buy them oversized retard. Do you actually even know anyone that skates? They're lightweight so don't fuck your balance and can be tied around your waist like a sweater easily, but still block wind and rain. And they cover your arms to relieve bruises but won't rip just from hitting the ground like a longsleeve tee.

Versatility is exactly why they're useful. How the fuck is a baseball tee going to protect you from the pouring rain? You're the one conforming functionality for "fashion"

>2006 skate culture
You dress like a 2006 sportsbro, dipshit.

>2010 is where many people decided to change to skinny jeans, and wear just a fit white tee.
Not skaters. But I imagine since you're a sfcuck, your friends just treat it like one of 5 hobbies to flesh out their boring personality. Only reason they'd dress like that is because the craft beer scene's fashion trends took precedence over skate's.
