Yeah. However I am speaking from a female standpoint. Youth is valued, therefore a good skincare routine (from face and body sunscreen to eye creams), combined with healthy habits is necessary starting from your adolescence.

If you don't really give importance to an elder's skin, you shouldn't worry about that. Every time I spend longer with an old woman I drink water until I can't hold more liquid in my stomach.

>> No.11149090

>>11149078
i mean its not that i dont care about my skin, i just place more importance on streamlining my routines. if i cant get away with doing nothing than im willing to cop some lotion or something. but im not willing to do a full on american psycho 2 hour skincare regimen twice a day.
ill totally cop a face scrub or something and use that on my face when i shower. i already moisturize a little because i get really dry skin particularly in winter. i dont moisturize my hands because they already get overmoisturized from applying it to other areas. plus gotta have muh masculine hands.

>> No.11149102

>>11149090
kek I know what you mean. No one, not even me, spend 2 hours taking care of the face.

I have two main products I apply on the morning (sulfur soap and eye cream, sometimes I forget the cream), three at night (soap, light moisturizer or aloe vera gel and eye cream), apart from the body lotion and body and face exfoliants, which are not always. And the sunscreen.

I am just telling you about my routine to show that it doesn't necessarily mean to drain all your time with it.

Personally I wouldn't use the face scrub in the shower, as people tend to use warmer water.

Can't advise you on the winter care, as I live in a tropical country.

And leave your hands alone, masculine hands are better.

I'm using a safety razor since january. I like it but I find it irritates the skin more than the disposable ones. but maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm using a generic foam, should I use some kind of soap? would it lubricate better?

"If you have dry and sensitive skin:

Wash less often, and use A) mild cleansers, B) a smaller amount of cleanser, and C) lukewarm water.

Clean your skin once daily at maximum, or just every other day (or even less). Don't shower too warm, as hot water is better at removing oils.

If you also want to manage light acne, focus on using water-based AHA/BHA toners (and also seeing a derm if the need arises).

Moisturizing is key for you. Apply your moisturizers to damp skin, to help maintain the moisture levels in the skin."

will give you better results. SA is an "active", and should be used before any other product. Allowing it some time, before applying further products is best, as SA is a BHA and needs a certain pH level to work properly, which the toner will disrupt.

If your skin is getting oily, that usually means your skin is stripped of moisture. Getting into a regular habit of moisturizing your face is what you should do.
If you want to get rid of oil that's on your nose on the spot, just dab it off with a tissue or toilet paper. There are also oil blotting sheets you can buy, which are the most effective at on-the-go oil removal.

>> No.11163522

Toner is a hugely broad category, and different toners do different things - you really have to read what's on the package to figure it out.

Generally, it is a liquid that goes on your face between cleansing and moisturizing steps.
Some toners are made to further "clean" the skin by removing oils and dirt. Personally, I think these are stupid, and will strip your skin. You'd have gotten rid of the dirt while washing, and your skin actually needs oils to be healthy and resist bacteria.

Other toners are meant to hydrate - for example hyaluronic acid toners. HA is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture into the surface layers of the skin, making skin look/feel hydrated.

Other toners deliver medicinal ingredients, like salicylic acid, to do stuff like control acne.

>> No.11163538

If your skin is reacting poorly with your cleanser, look into what the pH of the cleanser is.
Skin naturally has a pH of about 4.5-5.5, and if your cleanser has a pH of ~6 or higher, you may be damaging and drying out your skin.

There has been a lot of fuss about cleanser pH in the past 2 years or so online, so if you just google it, you'll find a bunch of articles and blogs about why it's important.

To figure out the pH of cleansers, you can look that up as well, if you don't feel like ordering a pH testing kit off amazon. In that case, I hope you're not leddit averse, because a lot of the cleanser pH lists get posted there.

Hey guys, I'm having a lot of trouble with my skin. I've had mild acne since 4 years ago, and it still hasn't bettered. About a year ago I picked up the ScA routine from reddit, but it just hasn't done ANYTHING for my skin. I've tried different products and everything, but nothing ever happens. I still have a bunch of acne in my face. I just don't know what to do. My current routine is:

Cleanse AM/PM
Exfoliate Stridex Red PM
Shave AM
Moisturise AM/PM
Benzoyl Peroxide PM

I have the SebaMed moisturiser for oily skin, and a swedish brand for drier/normal. No difference. Nothing. I'm going insane -- what am I doing wrong? I shower daily, train powerlifting and wash myself well. The only thing I can think of is a change of diet - I'm currently bulking pretty hard, that might be a reason? Otherwise I'm clueless.

Maybe you guys can help me out. Thanks

Its best to try a new type of razor when the weather is hot/humid, especially when the razor is sharper than the one you used to use. (disposble->safety->straightedge) Yes, try a glycerin based shaving soap, no need for pricey stuff or shaving brush. Just lather it up with hands and apply to face, with hottest water you can stand - don't hurt yourself!

Paradoxically, you want to rinse off the razor with cold water as you are shaving. Any facial mosturizer is fine to use as a post shave lotion.

Last - be careful when changing out blades. It will be easier to get nicks with the new one for ~4 days, don't just scrape it across your face.

Use something with BHA. The most common one is salicylic acid. For best results, look for something with 1.5-2%. Clinique had a good toner. Leave it for maybe 10-15min before moisturizing.

Blackheads aren't so much dirt in your skin, as they are oxidized oils and sebum. BHA will dissolve those.

>> No.11164906

Sunscreen won't do that...
Look for things that are meant to "brighten" or "whiten" skin.
The most common ingredients are:
AHAs (glycolic acid, citric acid, lactic acid)
Niacinamide
Vitamin C

Vit C is best used as a 15-20% serum. It oxidizes very easily, so it should be kept in a dark bottle out of the sun, and tightly closed.

AHA should be at around 8-10% for best effect.

Both of those will need a 15-25min wait time before applying other products, and should be used first after cleansing.
vit c > AHA if using both.

Niacinamide can be found in some lotions, like CeraVe

>Sunscreen won't do that

Your other feedback was great, but remember that sunscreen is key to preventing UV from causing various kinds of photodamage both superficially - as well as deep - in the skin, resulting in a quicker healing time for fresh wounds as well as older scars.

UV damage on wounds/scars greatly increases the likelihood of hyperpigmentation (local excess melanin production) as well as hypertrophic scars.

Protecting scars from sun, especially the kind that feature hyperpigmentation/local erythema/excess collagen (and also hypopigmentation), is key helping them heal and restore the tissue to a somewhat normal state.

You're of course correct about the sunscreens, and I would never advocate not using one.

But if someone has pits, discolouration, and old scarring, sunscreen on its own won't give you much improvement. It will help prevent further sun damage, but you need other ingredients (that you just won't find in sunscreens) to reverse both sun and acne-caused issues in any perceptible way.
