Is it possible to look effay while taking old styles/trends and mixing them or merging them with modern ones? I'm interested what the results would be if we took some cultural outfits and turned them into a fashion statement. Y/N? what do you guys think?

Loose pants and high boots are a favorite of mine

People experiment with historical al silhouettes, themes and fabrics all the time it's just not usually fashionable because you're usually not seperated just by time but by a basic ethos behind the clothing

Find something that melds in principle and naturally it will work

of course it is, that's where some of the most innovative fits come from, good luck finding combinations that work though

The ethnic part is not what i'm worried about because that's exactly what i want to get in touch with (the culture more precicely) but it seems hard to find a style that doesn't make me look like my hobby is to re-enact civil war battles.
Where i live cultural/religious freedom of expression is completely fine but i don't want to look like i hug bears for a living either, i'll try and find a good middle ground but thanks >>11113739
both of you, if anyone has more eastern european/orthodox/cossack inspo i'd be glad to see more or like what you posted.

Unfortunately I think the result would be people calling you out on cultural appropriation (if you're white and live in the west)

I miss the days where native american head-dresses were just fucking awesome, not a show of racism

2 true, but i honestly look forward to one of those people calling me out on my own culture. Besides i personally think anyone should be able to wear what they want and indulge in otehr cultures.

Yes absolutely.

To avoid looking costumey. isolate what specific elements of the cultural dress you're going for. The silhouette? The textures? The palette? With this in mind you can start to suggest that aesthetic through items which on their own may not be associated with it.
Follow your dreams though, there are no rules.
