So I recently acquired an office job and need some inspo for a new work wardrobe since I previously wore a uniform.

So, office wear thread? Male office wear also welcome.

Femanon here. YMMV but this is my experience

>When I was 22 I got a "real office job" with a business dress code and had to stumble to keep up
>Before I got the job I dressed like female Kurt Vile - long-ass shaggy brown hair, men's v-neck brown striped sweaters, frayed jeans - so I had no clue at all what to do
>Thought I would do the carrie mathison thing and wear crisp oxford shirts and editor pants cause it was a bit tomboy... Didn't work for my body type (hourglass; made me look enormous) and ironing those shirts is a BITCH
>Pants also sucked because I wore stilettos that were way too expensive and delicate to commute back on the subway, so had to switch to flats, then pants were too long and got frayed
>So I saw the light and ran the totally opposite way

now I basically have a uniform of:
>Dark close-fitting long and short-sleeved v neck tops, tucked in
>short interesting skirts (mostly pencil and straight, some A-line) that cinch the waist and hits above knees
>3/4 arm sleeve dresses that skim my body, also hitting above knees
>collarless blazers (made out of proper blazer materials like wool/crepe)
>lots and lots and lots of black tights
>kept the shoes cause they're fun
>thin gold jewelry

Bottom line is you're not gonna be good at your job if you're genuinely uncomfortable all day. Figure out the venn diagram overlap between your tastes and your body type and it's all good from there. Also: know your office to get a real sense of what's allowed.

Not counting menial labor like packing or airport security etc., do women actually work in jobs that require actual white collar skills and knowledge? I mean as in, they're not some sort of 'secretaries' who are basically hired escorts who give the bosses blowjobs every now and then.

This is a genuine, serious question. Because I have some doubts about this.

I've *heard* about female neurosurgeons, structural engineers, C+ programmers, wealth management officers/portfolio managers etc. but I'm not sure whether they exist outside fiction and movies.

I know female CEOs exist but those seem to be mostly for image purposes with little substance.

I'm all ears, I want real life examples and inspiration. I'm a female 24 yrs who has worked as a clerk/cashier and currently studying chemistry on a scholarship.

well I'm studying biochemistry, am near a scholarship, but have yet to write some exams. I want to get into alzheimer research and am aiming to do an internship in 'murrica, because that's where the quality research is happening. There are two ladies, Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna, by whom I'm inspired by, since they have constructed a new, revolutionary method of gene editing, which in future could be used as a therapeutic method to cure genetic diseases in adults. They will get probably the nobel prize for that this year. Also don't forget the nobelprize winner last year, Youyou Tu, a pharmacist, who found a new therapeutic method for malaria by studying traditional chinese medicine. We also have a program here which is all about making contacts and networking in the biotech industry and most of the female CEOs we got to know have had scientific careers before that and are therefore mostly quite skilled at what they do. An example is Rachel King, who founded one of the most successfull biotech companies. I even got to speak to her personally last month in the hopes of getting an internship. You just haven't had the exposure yet, but they are there. Sry for my bad english btw.

its hospital IT. One one end we have the fat guy wears the same 3 polos in rotation. Then we have the technical director who suits from Express, and the CIO is roughly the only person who has nay idea how to dress herself in a professional manner.

I use this to my advantage, being able to sit anywhere on the spectrum without looking like a terd. I've really been wearing alot more white shirts and going bolder with my ties than I have in the past. Power stripes all day.

Items like these aren't made in huge bulks, so unless it's a MTM/bespoke item and you find the supplier who offers that particular clothe, you're out of luck.

>know your office to get a real sense of what's allowed

This so much.
I first started working (low level I.T. shit) at a cosmetics company. It was female dominant and the average age of the staff was 22. The girls would wear edgy corporate outfits. It was a dream coming into work, seeing new outfits and hearing the click clack of sexy heels.

Now (years later) im doing I.T. shit for the Arms Industry and regurarly work with Govt staff. Mostly old men everywhere. The outfits worn by the girls at the cosmetic company would not be allowed and would hamper your carrer advancement. Most of the women, even the younger ones (mid-late 20s) all dress modestly. The choose not to stand out.

It would be different at a small Real Estate firm with 10 staff. It would be different at a car dealership. It would be different at an Accounting/Auditing firm. It would be different at a young advertising/graphic design firm. I guess tou cant go wrong with conservative outfits.

Side note: Female corporate at Singapre is MUH DICK!

I can only think of two examples:
1) Retirement aged Software analyst
She lived through the rise of I.T. and has a passion for tech. Imagine a nerd with awesome presentation skills. I think she's ex-service and now works as a contractor, making a shitload of money.

2) Young (late 20s) upstart
This girl is very ambitious and is building her skill set and industry knowledge to become one of the 'higher ups'. If she sticks around, she'll be my boss one day. She doesnt burn bridges or steps on anyones toes, but her personality (and looks) have the old maids jelly. Very intelligent. I think she would be successful witihn senior management in most white collar industries.

If you are intelligent, have people skills, have above average communication skills (presenting), and know how to handle office politics you can go far. Being beautiful/handsome will guarentee it.
