I've got hair like pic related. It looks exactly like this when I step out of the shower, only a bit less 'extreme'. The problem is that I've no idea to style my hair. Always wanted a pompadour but it never works out.

Can you guys spoonfeed me how styling your hair with gel or whatever works?

I want to get one of those short haircuts where you fix the front part stays up. Do I just go and tell my barber I have no idea how this works and he'll teach me? Where do you buy the product? Do I have to style it everyday after I wake up and will it look bad if I don't do so? What about when you go to the swimming pool?

I didn't want to post face but I guess it's the only way to get real afvice here.

I need to lose a few inches of my hair because of its shitty quality and was thinking about going maybe a bit shorter than necessary to have a haircut that's more /fa/.
I'd personally like shoulder length hair but as you can see my hair is thin as fuck, so it would probably just look stupid.

I think long hair is probably best for a nondescript face like mine with thin hair, regrettably.
What would /fa/ recommend?

I can't see why it wouldn't brush back apart from the fact that your hair is thick. It might be falling back down due to the weight. Have you considered getting the weight chopped out? Maybe towel dry your hair, style it how you want and air dry the rest out too, tame it into style.

Will hair spray work for bone straight, shoulder length hair? My hair looks great when I flat iron it, but at the end of the day it kinda "curls" up.

So thanks to some helpful anons in this thread, I now know that the secret to getting the hairstyle I wanted was to not wash it with shampoo to make sure my hair produces enough natural oils.

The problem is, wouldn't my hair smell awful though? And what do I do after excercising when I'm all sweaty? Should I just wash it with water?

I use Murray's because I can't justify spending 30 dollars on a petroleum derived hair product. It's oil based so if you don't take care of your hair and wash it all out, it will accumulate and look disgusting.

I tried non oil pomades like American crew but honestly I don't think it's the same thing. Not saying it's bad, just that it doesn't look and feel like pomade.
