Where can I get a suit like this one? My dad used to wear ones like this, but I've never seen this type of suit in stores. All the ones I see have just two buttons. What do you even call this?

Double breasted suit. The one in your pic looks almost exactly like one on J. Crew. Pic related.

Ding ding.

It's a three-button double-breasted suit with regular-sized lapels (do NOT go huge, it'll look awful) and that has been tailored well.

It's a look that some people find distasteful, but that really looks good when worn correctly.

Thank you so much! Now I know what to look for!

Specifically, that's a 6x2 double breasted suit. 6 buttons with 2 to close. If you're just getting into the style, 6x2 is your best bet - 4x1 is good if you're shorter. Avoid 6x1 - I've only seen maybe one or two examples of it that were flattering. Also avoid notch lapels if you can (although OP's pic actually makes them work) and go for peak, it's the more traditional style.

Super-wide lapels are usually distasteful, but on double-breasted suits they're not necessarily bad. They're just not to modern taste - if you go on Styleforum, there are a huge number of proponents of wider lapels. I'd be wary of anything wider than 4" or 4.5" though.

What specifically is bad about notch lapels on a jacket like this?

Double-breasted suits are generally thought of as more formal and elegant than single-breasted because they use more fabric, as are peak lapels. The longer lines of the lapels vs. single-breasted lends itself more to peak lapels, the sweeping lines enhancing visual impression of the shoulders and making the wearer look stronger. Notch lapels can and have worked in narrow-wrap double-breasted with a high closure, but on normal double-breasted it looks too 80s. Suffice is to say, it's a lot easier to get a peak lapel looking good on a double-breasted than it is to get a notch lapel looking good, and even when it does work, a peak lapel usually would work even better.

Also, for peak lapels, the visual ideal is for the edge of the shoulder to be somewhere in this zone. Lapels that are too narrow, too angled, or too low/high have trouble hitting it and look off.
