I don't know if anyone cares, I never browse /fa/ but clicked into this thread because I saw the thumb nail for >>10694044 and thought it was /k/. I am an independent contractor who has trained police and military units across the globe, I just finished my shift teaching the the ANA here in Afghanistan. I have experience working with a variety of police and military units, including >>10693987.

If anyone has any questions about police or military units, equipment, or tactics, I can shed some light on it.

Let me just start by saying that the contractor industry is dying, the jobs are becoming more and more scarce and lower in quality. It will be nearly impossible for new guys to break into it. That being said: this is your best shot in.

I would shoot for an Option 40 contract so that you can go through Airborne school and RASP to become a Ranger, it will be extremely difficult but being in the Regiment will give you a massive leg up. You'll have SOF experience which at this point is a must, it wasn't always this way but with the reduction in force (RIF) there are a lot of guys with trigger time in plane Jane units getting out. If you go big Army right now you will with a 99% certainty NOT see combat. That is a instant DQ on your application right there. On top of being in a high speed unit, I would recommend going through as many schools as you can. In addition to all the schools my unit sent me through by default, I also went through Pathfinder and Sniper school. Every school you go through will give you additional ASIs / SQI (Additional Skill Identifier / Special Qualifications Identifier). Some ASIs like B4 (Sniper), F7 (Pathfinder) are huge pluses on your resume in the contracting world. Also make sure to get some medical training under your belt. You don't have to get this in the military, I went and took some life savers courses at a local community college after I got out. Your GI bill will allow you to take courses in stuff like that as well as courses in personal security services.

MAKE CONNECTIONS! When you're in the military, especially "the community" as we call it (SOF) make sure you make connections as these will be key in securing positions and building a name for yourself when you get out.

Overall, not to shit on your parade but becoming a contractor is becoming hard while also becoming less rewarding. You will most likely not make it. But if this is the path you have set yourself to, look into an Option 40 contract.

Don't go cavscout, they have some okay schools but it's much harder to get accesss to the better schools or a more high speed unit. SOF takes 68W (Medics) and 13F(Forward Observers / FSS) with some regularity, but not 19Ds.

Been in my fair share of shoot outs, but it's never like the movies.

The pay for contractors is great, or at least it used to be. During the golden age from 2006-2010 it was incredible. For guys like me who have established themselves the pay can still be good, but a lot of the new guys they hire don't get paid much for the duties they're expected to perform. They also aren't nearly qualified enough to do those jobs. But somewhere after the draw down in Iraq and during the surge the big companies realized they could hire 10 shit heads and pay them half of what they pay 1 stud, and that the risk wasn't that huge as far as the company was concerned.

Never watched Homeland, I tried watching one episode during the second season when it was getting all that attention but couldn't finish it.
