Dartmouth College. And yeah occasionally. It's really only practical for about 4 months of the year due to the harsh New England weather, but I love the loafer/shorts look. Long sleeve button-ups are the standard for men, unless you're an athlete.

It's a very strange school since it's located in the middle of nowhere. If you've never lived in New England before prepare to be cold. Layering in the winter is a must, but since the winters are so bad you can go crazy with sweaters, light jackets, long overcoats, hats/scarves etc.

Also, you'll have to order all you clothes online or when you're back in a city because the only place for clothing in Hanover is J. Crew.

>> No.10692214

Also, if you go full prep and are white be prepared for everyone to assume you're a trust fund baby, which there are plenty of and is socially acceptable, but still might not be how you want others to perceive you.

Boston is 3 hours by bus, NYC is 5. Montreal is 3.5 hours by car, so if you make friends that have cars you're pretty good. Also the area is beautiful in the fall and summer. Plus the school is amazing. Definitely a wide variety of fashion, but preppy is pretty prominent.

Hispanic? Black? Asian? Native? I'm technically brown too. There are strong communities with regards to minorities. Not to say the school is segregated at all, but you'll definitely have a group of people to fall back on when needed, which will happen as it is an Ivy League school and gets difficult.

The basic smart look would be patterned long and short sleeve button downs, chinos, and boots.

>> No.10692280

>>10692243
I don't but a large proportion of people do. Dartmouth owns its own ski-slope so it's dirt cheap for students to ski/snowboard. Plus Mt. Killington is very close and it's supposed to have some of the best slopes this side of the country.

Majority of the classes have less 20 students depending on what you study, so you literally get one-on-one attention with professors and other students studying the same things. I've had probably around 7 classes that had less than 10 students. It's great if you want to learn, shitty if you didn't do your reading and come unprepared for discussion. Haha.

One of my best friends excelled in community college, graduated with an associates, and got accepted into an Ivy. It's possible but you have to do excellently. Try doing outside programs at other schools, like summer programs at small liberal arts colleges. Also realize you won't really be transferring, but rather starting over to get a B.A.

>>10692365
I applied Early Decision to Dartmouth, and also did their Fly-In for Native Community program so that increases my chances by a lot. If I would have know I had a shot at Ivy's I would have applied to Harvard and Yale too.

>I applied Early Decision to Dartmouth, and also did their Fly-In
i got offered the fly in thing! But I didn't do it because senior year was a bad time in my life and i'm scared of airplanes and have never ridden in one before.
one of the weird things in my life where I don't regret not doing it, but realize that it would have changed a lot of things.
yeah i figured that while I was applying to a school that I have a tiny chance to get into I might as well try Harvard too. I considered applying to Yale but after one look at their website said nope. And idk if i wanna be in the middle of all the sjw stuff going on at their campus

Damn. Had you done Fly-In I would have met you. I was pretty involved in the Native community up until recently.

The "sjw" stuff is happening around the country. As a minority student you'll be inadvertently involved anyway, whether you want to be or not. That's just the nature of being a minority at schools that are historically wealthy, white, and older than the country itself.

>> No.10692515

oh really? that would have been crazy. I have been kind of looking forward to being involved in the native community and trying to learn everyone's mythos and traditions and that stuff.

I figured that the sjw stuff is happening everywhere, I guess my problem is that the Black sjws that I've met have been very disrespectful towards other minority groups, kind of turning me off to any of it because as a minority in the minority group I kind of gave up on having any recognition and try not to tell anyone that I'm indian at this point

>On two muggy Saturday nights in September of 1964, plainclothes detectives descended upon Tokyo’s upscale Ginza neighborhood to arrest a group of teen-agers known as the Miyuki Tribe. The young women wore handkerchiefs on their heads and long summery dresses with ribbons on the back. But the young men’s outfits were items that most Japanese had never seen before: shirts made from thick wrinkled oxford cloth with buttons on the collar, three-button madras jackets, shrunken chino pants, and leather shoes with intricate broguing. This new fashion style was called aibii—from the English word “Ivy.”

There used to be Essentials for Men but they closed down last spring, they had a really good selection of outer wear and was the only place in town you could get anything tailored. Their going out of business sale was unreal and I got a couple Barbour coats for less than $500 total. Woodstock Vermont is a pretty decent substitute for shopping if you can find someone to drive you out there. But yeah, online shopping is generally the way to go.

I was raised in Hanover and my parents still live there but I'm a Freshman at Princeton now. Trust me, it's way stranger to be raised in that town than just going to college there for four years.

Fun fact: Hanover is per capita the highest ordering zip code for Zappos on Earth, recently everyone in Hanover got a free package from them for the loyalty or whatever.

People at Ivy's don't actually dress like that anymore

the exceptions being yale / cornell

I mean, some do, but you'll find more people dressed like that at Duke or other really expensive schools

it's now cool to dress like a rapper

Accurate.

>the exceptions being yale / cornell
Depends on the people. The demographics have shrunk significantly at both of those locations.

(But Yale is still better than Harvard and Cornell is still better than Columbia)

Ding ding. Legacies tend to have the time and money to waste their energies dressing in hyper-expensive shit and whining about how hard Organic Chemistry is. Most of the genuinely smart kids can barely tie their shoelaces, sartorially.

It's still 300x better than state schools, though - I went to a shitty private school for undergrad and an ivy for law school, the latter was a breath of fresh air. Less trashyness and fuckin' goddamn everclear everywhere.

Dartmouth students dress like shit because they no longer care about things like taste, personality, or family

People at my state school dress infinitely better than pic related and literally every single other pic of Dartmouth students

When you have an egalitarian selection process that doesn't factor in taste or style then those who do put effort into those areas are going to be less likely selected

The person who doesn't think about what he is going to wear has more time to purchase SAT books and do homework and suck his favorite teacher's clit

It's like how I looked for CalTech videos on youtube and the autist couldn't even look the camera lens in the eye
