I just blind bought Encre Noire and Midnight In Paris.

I know it was a gamble, especially EN, but I regret nothing. MIP might be a bit too feminine and powdery for my taste but it's certainly pleasant and I like it quite a bit. I might just give it to a girl if I don't end up using it, it smells very unisex to me and I bet most girls love it.

EN is actually fantastic though. My first reaction was WTF is this, though... took quite a while to dry down and at first it really did smell like ink to me, but once it's settled it's very refined. Love it. I'll be wearing this a lot.

This will sound incredibly stupid, but can somebody help me pick a nice fragrance based on...the colors of the clothing I wear...?

I know it sounds insane, but just try your best if you can. Use your imagination as to what YOU think of in terms of scent when you think of these colors.

I wear: Burgundy shirts, black slacks, cordovan boots/cordovan belt wth a brown watch.

I only turned 18 a couple weeks ago so I'm looking for something mature, but anything quite frankly would do.

I know the question sounds absurd, but again, just try to guess/assume what you would think. Like, I would think of "CB I Hate Perfume - Burning Leaves" or something.

I don't mind price as long as it's good.
Thanks for any help

The problem is the longivety is a joke, at least on me. Some people wrote this on fragrantica as well. Strong in the beginning and then really weak after a short while. I think that's real annoying tbh, so I'm looking for a better alternative.

Honestly, like 80% of fragrances are unisex. Perfume wasn't even considered gender-specific until the early 20th century and it was mainly as a marketing tool. E.g., when Old Spice was first sold, is what marketed as a woman's scent.

And I agree with that other Anon. Age appropriateness is of the least relevance when considering what fragrance you want.

best designer house, by some margin imo, and their in-house perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena is one of the most highly regarded in the world.

most of the Hermessence line is worth checking out, and some of my other favorites are Eau de Mandarine Ambree, Eau d'Orange Verte, and Sur le Toit, Apres la Mousson, and Monsieur Li from the Jardin line

however, one common criticism frequently leveled against Hermes scents is that longeavity is average at best and too often worse than that

This so much. But I think it's not really a Hermes thing, but Ellena's. Look at most of the other perfumes he made, not all, but most share that in common, even if in Hermes he has almost total control over what he creates, or when working with Malle, even in those cases his work tends to lean towards more fleeting scents, maybe that's exactly how he likes them.

You have no genuine clue as to why it's called "I Hate Perfume"; Brosius literally stated a couple reasons why it's called "I Hate Perfume", first off he described working as a taxi driver and women wearing obnoxious ass perfume. And he also hates the fact that people are always wearing the same shit as everyone else. A third semi-relevant thing to note as to why so many of his perfumes have earth/geosmin notes is because he also dislikes the constant view in the American lifestyle of everything always having to be clean.
The perfume has shit longevity because it's garbage ass water-based. Which is fine, but it evaporates far, far too quickly and he should fix that issue.

So pls go

>> No.10500360

>>10500339
I mean I tested a few perfumes, and choosed Homme because I liked it the best. But I think it's a good idea to buy a 2nd alternate fragrance. I don't really know shit but from my rationally bounded perspective I'd say I must check for softer lighter fragrances or ones which are supposed to go with a warmer climate. But I'm still unsure about the relevance of such characteristics.

>> No.10500377

Ah I think I understand. CNH was your first fragrance and you want a second, but another sweet gourmand woody fragrance would be redundant. That leaves a lot of other fragrance categories. I'm a boi :)))
I can't even tell if CNH is a formal or casual fragrance, I'd say it's more a casual/serious one. I'll be working in controlling starting in March so something summery and formal while still 'young' smelling (if that makes sense) would make sense.
I liked fou d'absinthe, but lacks a bit of longevity and sillage imo especially on me.
Couldn't care for CDG 2 Man which doesn't even last on me
Disliked Philosykos because it's smelled like an old woman who lives in a forest
Margiela Jazz Club is overpriced barbie shit like the clothes.

Also I'm not sure but I think fragrances don't last that long on me but I need more time to be sure.

consider olfactory fatigue. it's happened a few times with me (the most egregious time with a sample of Memeventus; apparently you could smell me from a good distance away, embarrassing). i own fou d'absinthe and get pretty good performance out of it, i think most do, so ask someone next time if you havent already

It's a very divisive fragrance. Extremely easy to over apply, so go easy on the trigger. As a big fan of "mature" fragrances, GF is even too "old man-y" for me. But if it works for you then it's possibly the greatest value in perfumery today.

This kinda bothers me. It seems like a lot of "fragrance people" on Youtube and the like are total dorks and losers. Like middle aged men who dress poorly and who look like they reek. On one hand, being niche houses, they can take more risks and not be slaves to pleasing the crowd. Of course there are plenty of designer frags that take risks as well. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who believe that expensive and less common = better. Luxury brands keep in business by reinforcing that belief.

What's the point of making yachts for sale at Target?

They aren't easy for the common person to buy, because the common person wouldn't buy them

They are however relatively easy for rich people to buy. Just walk into the Barney's, Sak's Fifth Avenue, and Nieman Marcus and you'll see 90% of the listed brands there.

I can't speak to the profitability of the business model besides the fact that the manufacturing of the juice is not as expensive as you think, the the price is mostly markup/advertising. >PLANNING2COP TIER
L'Artisan Fou d'Absinthe

Etat Libre d'Orange Fils de Dieu...
Diptyque Eau Duelle

The Different Company Sel de Vetiver
Creed Himalaya
Creed Virgin Island Water
Creed Tabarome
L'Artisan Timbuktu
L'Artisan Traversee du Bosphore (honestly wouldn't wear this one, but would by a candle of it)

>LOW TIER
L'Artisan Dzonghka
Diptyque L'Ombre dans l'eau (I've yet to find a rose scent I like, so this just might be my bias; it smelled very natural, though, like sniffing a rose wet with dew)
Penhaligon's Endymion
Annick Goutal Sables

>SHIT TIER
L'Artisan Coeur de Vetiver Sacre

Creed Aventus
Acqua di Parma Colonia Leather (nice idea with the citrus+leather, didn't really work with this particular scent; would try another with that combo)

I got a sample of this and though I'd update in case anyone's interested. I only recently became interested in fragrances so I don't have much experience, but basically it's the strongest, darkest, most unwearable scent I've smelled (it makes Encre Noire seem versatile in comparison). I thought other reviews were exaggerating but this really does have a kind of satanic cult/ haunted house feel to it. The thing is, even though it's basically unwearable (especially for younger people), Salvador Dali Pour Homme is so dark, unique, heavy and provocative that I consider it a work of art in and of itself.
