Hi /fa/, I have been invited to a black tie event. I want to know what I have to wear. They did not give any more information other than it is black tie. I looked on Wikipedia for some help and they said black suit and bow tie. Can I wear a pinstripe suit or does it have to be all black? And can I wear a normal black tie or does it need to be a bow tie? Do I have to have a waistcoat? What else do I need? Are full wingtips OK or do I need some other kind of shoes?

>> No.10483354

>>10483324
lighting is a good part of the trouble. and can significantly impact your photo. while lighting will rarely make or break a photo, it will take an otherwise acceptable photo and elevate to a truly polished end result.
posing is the big problem here. unflattering poses (common ones you may have just noticed for yourself are extending your chin or pulling it down, alternatively thinning or giving yourself a huge double chin (i myself am careful to raise my head when im taking pictures)) will be what you want to focus on. i know more about tips for girls than guys, such as not squaring your shoulders to the camera.
however, there are also technical aspects you want to be aware of, the closer you are to the lens, the more distorted your photo will be. if you have a big nose, stay as far away as you can. this is why portrait photography is often done with a high magnification lens, instead of right next to the subject even though conventional wisdom dictates that getting closer will yield more detail.

>>10483340
not true, fam. you can significantly alter your appearance by manipulating a photo, and im not even talking about photoshop. simple posing and lighting techniques alone can make a world of difference.

of course, if you want to look good and not just have a technically good photo, you also have to be dressed well and whatever else you do that you think looks the best, makeup for girls, for example.

>> No.10483610

its not really food for thought bruv, its how you take pictures. i do photography as a hobby. a lot of it just becomes second nature. you know, just by virtue of the shot your trying to take, what you want your depth of field to be, and how to achieve it. since everything changes if you alter one thing, that means you have all the lighting worked out, which means you know your aperture and shutter speed and everything. now obviously it doesnt just happen, theres a bit of trial and error, and a lot of work to grasp everything so thoroughly that it just happens. all thats left after that stuff is just framing and posing. and since your doing timer shots of yourself that means youve got a tripod or a place to put your camera at lease, so thats predetermined as well.
once you figure out where you are most photogenic, youll have a few go to lightings and poses, and then all that needs to change is the pose.
of course im talking about taking one picture of you, for your clothes, and not trying to take a set or be artsy or anything. and naturally there will be a lot of trial and error to get some really good shots.
basically if you have a good place to shoot, set your camera to auto, and then have a reflector for natural window light, or some other lighting set up, all you have to do is pose and shoot.
its a bit of work at first, learning what to do, then after that its easy af to separate yourself from the crowd of plebeian scum that posts on this place, especially if your fits are okay (read: your clothes fit and 'match' appropriately)

>> No.10483626

>>10483610
as i mentioned before, i dont know much about guy posing. regarding ladies, its mostly playing with angles and strategic posing to hide fat and accentuate desirable traits such as the hips (like in every basic bitch white girl photo where they have all their weight on one leg and their his cocked at an angle) but i do have a few basic tips for you.
keep a shallow depth of field. the goal for this is to blue your background so you stand out more. you dont have to completely obliterate it, just enough to show you are the subject will do, its up to you.
face left or right, and then leave more open space in that direction. for example, place yourself on the left of the frame and look into the right. this also applies for motion, like walking or driving.
regarding the poses, it doesnt matter what pose you strike as long as you look natural. this can take some practice, but is easily achievable by being in the right state of mind. basically like when you start walking 'manual' and you look retarded, dont overthink it. one basic tip a lot of people use is to lean against something.

good luck fam, i look forward to seeing some quality pictures in the waywt soon.

Lots of people on here used to stretch jeans by wetting them and cramming stuff (rags, other clothing, etc.) inside to stretch the fibers. I'm sure you could do the same with the ankles.

I think I just had my first fit battle irl today. As I was leaving my friend's dorm today I spotted one of the numerous Chinese international students. This one stood out to me in particular because rather than being clad in some strange combination of Giuseppe Zanotti, Off-White, and Rick, he was wearing a tasteful denim jacket and slim black jeans. He obviously noticed me, glancing from my eyes down to my oversized bomber, following my baggy wool pants as they seemed to melt onto clean white Air Force Ones. I made the first move, and though I was nervous at first I managed to insert the left side of the zipper into the pull on the right on my first try. I pulled the zipper up smoothly and slowly. I looked up and saw him looking, but a couple seconds after noticing my challenge he broke his gaze, looked at the ground, and ran his hand through his pushed back undercut. "Nice hair, but it's not going to help your fit" I thought to myself, as I walked off to my physiology class having bested another brave yet misguided challenger.

they're a slim straight leg to begin with, but you can get them tapered. However it all depends on the build of your legs.

If you sized down 2 then I'm assuming you have skinny legs and they will fit pretty slim before tapering, but there will be way too much material below the knee and they will need tailoring.

I have a /fit/ build and wear true to size new standards (33 but fit 34)

Looking to buy some Docs, pic related. Tried some on in store in a similar style, I'm usually a 42/43 so I tried on 42 and 41 cos I know Docs fit big. The 42s felt maybe a bit large but the 41s were super snug.

Should I go for the 41s or 42s? How much will the leather stretch on Docs?

If it's for a suit you don't want any skinnier than 6." Skinny as possible is not the goal for suit pants. Also, you probably shouldn't cuff them unless you iron that cuff in and get it sewn - but that sort of renders them useless as actual formal suit pants.

it's in http://young-stalin.com/infos.php somewhere, look around
honestly just get clothes you like in colors you like, I get ~pic related
if you want pure basics, probably 3-4 shorts, enough t-shirts that you feel comfortable/non-repetitive (get a fuckton of white ones tho), good black jeans (and a pale wash if you like that), a couple pairs of chinos, and one or two clean minimalist jackets (ma-1, m65, some fishtail parka, maybe a decent trucker jacket, etc.). shoes are further complications, not getting into that.
make sure everything fits, that should be your highest priority. well fitting clothes look good, and are the simplest best way to instantly improve your look
winter is more heavy/costly, maybe wait until spring to buy stuff, get a better sense for what you want to wear in that time (lurk a fuckton), then wear that til next winter
