Can 90's fashion be /fa/?

Any older humans that had a sense of fashion back then?

Let's get a 90's thread going, but like real 90's fashion, not things people wear today that they think was 90's style. (if you know what I mean)

you won't be able to dress this way without everyone thinking you're trying too hard. at best, you might get a few people to say "aw man, dat nostalgia". but in a few years the trend will die again and you would have wasted your money on it. so if you have a ton of disposable income, go for it

There's more to the 90's than windbreakers and athletic sweatshirts.
After rewatching Twin Peaks, I've really becomed obsessed with their 90's workwear / native american style. So I really want to get an aztec jacket in suede, but I need to find a way to style it without looking like a member of a scandinavian indie band. So I was thinking of mixing it with some "modern" influences, like skinny jeans and SLP boots.
Ideas? I'll try to dump some inspo...

I HAVE THAT JACKET

>> No.10474784

>>10470274
No, never.
Why? because the silhouettes are the polar opposite of each other, even if the rest is the same. The 90s were all about projecting a laid back image with extremely comfy, wide fits which would be considered sloppy nowadays. Conversely, today's emphasis on slim fits was considered laughable and unwearable back then.

Example: Remember when everyone said George from Seinfeld was well-dressed? Well, they actually made him wear clothes that wear a size too small to make him look uncool and old-fashioned.

>>10472492
They tried to bring back workwear in the early 2010s but it didn't work out - slim fits and workwear don't mix. There are still some remnants, like flannel shirts, but that's it.

As for the Native American stuff, that was HUGE back in the 90s. Also because of the New Age trend, everyone wanted to be a medicine man. Look at 90s TV series, you always have Injun themes.
But this doesn't fit the zeitgeist anymore, so forget it. They also tried to bring this back in the early 2010s, but it didn't work out, either.

Remember that pop culture is also dependant on economy: The 90s were rich, but the 2010s aren't rich, so our "clowboy workwear" style looked more early 80s (Slim fits, checkered shirts etc.).

>>10472521
See, exactly what I'm talking about. The fits are much too wide. Compare these people (Looking laid back and even athletic because the wide shirts give the illusion of a husky body) to today's models and actors (Where an androgynous skinnyness is not only the ideal, but the absolute baseline to make today's clothes look halfway good).

>> No.10474792

>>10474784
Also, look at the jeans: Not only are they wide (What is "relaxed" today was "normal" back then, tight jeans were extremely 80s and therefore not effay at all - a slim straight was the absolute skinniest you could go), they rise much higher than today's jeans.

This changes the look in extreme ways because high waisted jeans make your legs look longer, again giving you a more athletic look - today's jeans make your legs look shorter, making you look stocky and short.

So, in essence:
>90s: You look cool, athletic, laid-back
>2010s: You look young, skinny and "orderly"

Just different aesthetics for different decades. The zeitgeist is so different that while today's stuff is inspired by the 90s, it is not and cannot be the same.

>>10474784
I agree that imitating 90's fashion 100% looks stupid af. But my kinda go-to uniform is skinny jeans, slp chelseas and a sloppy/oversized top. So I don't think trying to mix in some aztec patterns with a modern slp cowboy look would look completely stupid.
I'm thinking something like:
slp wyatt boots in nut suede
High waisted black slim/skinny jeans
Big sloppy sweater with a 90's fit (like really wide, but not very long)
And then an oversized suede jacket with aztec print.
ta-da...

>not very long
>90s fit
Choose one.

Again, a 90s fit would look downright sloppy nowadays. It's slackercore amped up to 11. Even normcore is much too slick and orderly for a real 90s look. Remember, this was the decade when grunge was in style.
Watch the kid in Last Action hero, for example. Or X Files reruns.

If you want something from the past that looks good today, get inspired by early 80s TV series. MacGyver, Knight Rider, stuff like that.

The key piece of 90s is stonewashed denim (at least to me).
BTW, take a look at Britpop bands because most of their outfits would count as effay even today.

I have it, some of my friends call it the ugly/christmas sweater but I like it a lot. The sizes are kind of big though, I'm 170 cm and have it in small, it stops at the middle of my butt and is pretty wide. The fabric is rather heavy too. I usually just wear it with all black, let me know if you have any better suggestions.
