Hey /fa/, getting my first pair of quality oxfords. I went to a tailor and he recommended the Allen Edmonds Strand as a good first oxford that is versatile and can be dressed up or down. He also recommended a darker brown, but I figured I'd ask you faggots which pair would be the best for a first shoe.

I'm not really a big fan of the oxblood, for what it's worth.

As if /fa/ knows more than the tailor...

The recommendation is all good. Im biased but I tend to stick to "Made in England".

Look on Pediwear or Herring Shoes, in ur price range, and u can't go far wrong.

the park avenue is a much better "starter" dress shoe. Much more versatile and imo wingtip/broguing seem kind of tacky.

why would you think a bunch of autists on 4chan would know more about fashion than a tailor?

I thought the same thing about broguing in general but he suggested that more broguing made it more versatile and able to be worn outside of just with suits. I prefer the Fifth Avenue personally as well.

>supposed to be oxblood
Looks like theres way too much blue in there to be oxblood.

The best first shoe would be the one that fits your wardrobe, duh. Light browns tend to be shit because they arent really versatile at all. The look shit with charcoal and navy, and kinda meh with lighter shades of grey. Darker browns go way better with blue, but still look pretty fucking retarded with charcoal.

>>10400246
Entirely depends on what youre wearing. Broguing in itself isnt tacky, at all. Might have been the case 30 years ago. Especially when they arent even full brogue, but only half like the ones in the OP.

Would you recommend the Strand or the Park Avenue then? I assume the dark brown would be best then. It'd be worn primarily with chinos or a lighter colored suit.

Brown can be worn with literally anything but black, though.

Obviously, the oxford is the most formal shoe there is, so there is no way you are wearing it with anything but suits unless it has broguing

depends if you wear suits often and what colour.

If you wear grey and navy suits often, get the dark brown.

if you will only wear these rarely, then personally I would get a more casual black shoe, which could be worn with most suit colours and if you need them with a black suit for a funural or something.

If you want to wear them with chinos then even the Strand is kinda questionable. Park Avenue is quarter broguing and therefore pretty damn formal. Hell, most people wont even notice the broguing on that type of shoe. Then again, thats not even actual broguing but just stitches.

The problem is that Oxfords are formal. Chinos generally are pretty casual. Half broguing can work, but I have hardly ever seen that 'in action' so its hard for me to judge. But if you have to pick between the two then the Strands definitely are more versatile. If I was you I would just try out multiple shades of brown. It really depends what sort of lighter coloured suits youre wearing. Dark brown doesnt look that good with everything so maybe something like the on in the top left over it. As I said, it really depends on your wardrobe what is and isnt versatile. The safest bet always is black.

I always thought Alden shoes were more expensive. Here, go for these instead :^)

Looks retarded with Charcoal. There also are a shit ton of brown shades. Tan is completely different than really dark brown.
