Where are some /fa/ places to live?

I nominate Beacon Hill and Back Bay in Boston. Well dressed people who work in tech and finance living in beautiful historic architecture.

A really crappy room in Beacon Hill is $1100 a month, so you need to make at least $40k. A respectable studio apartment is at least $1500 so you'd need to make a minimum of $54k.

Alternatively, you can get a room in a shared apartment but that's usually still gonna cost at least a G.

Accurate, I think. Fuckin' hate NYC, I've never understood why people love it so much. There's something beautiful about cities, but NYC is overpriced trash.

I've always thought it'd be rad as fuck to own a mansion in some of the outer burbs of a mid-tier city. I'm thinking of the mansion areas that encircle D.C. (think parts of Bethesda or Tyson's Corner) or Boston. Gotta have room for a collection of nice cars and a dog or two, dammit.

That being said, I'm a philosophy major, and NYU's apparently the #1 in the field, so I lucked out. Still, I'm sure anything you might want to study at NYU can generally be done as well/better at Columbia.

Not that guy, but I lived in Chicago for a while and it's important that you not underestimate it. For one thing, I think it's a wonderful city, like something out of a video game with surreal structures and hidden squares all over the place as well as a ton of cool people, greedy people and dangerous people. The bad parts and the bad people are no joke. You can get mugged, assaulted or at the very least intimidated if you make the wrong move in the wrong part of town, and you'd better believe the professionals and landlords are ruthless. People aren't dimwitted Fargo characters in Chicago.

On the other hand, the intellectual and business scenes are world class, and if you want a shot at the big time you could pick worse places to move. At times the city makes you despair for humanity, but at others the potential for the future seems like it's just bursting through the crusty asphalt.

I still love you baby.
