I've read the sticky and some style blogs but I need help
>inb4 /a/
I live in NYC. I am a medical student and have very little money to spend. I need new york style young person suits and pants.

Given where I live, what is the best place to shop?
Listen, I know I need to spend money to look good but I'm so damn poor.
Sites like Frank and Oak have jackets under 200. Where do I go in new york to get these things until I am working and can buy bespoke suits.

I am a medical student in Philadelphia. I went to NYC just to get custom suits from BlackLapel.

$450 no tax, amazing deal for the quality and fit you get. Lots of customizability, I got all kinds of kinky features

Dude, you live in NYC. You can figure this out.

Thrift the motherfuck out of this.
1st Avenue near 20th has Goodwill, Salvation, a tiny place called Cauz for Paws that donates to animal shelters and shit. These are right next to SVA and get tons of hipster and other lower east side clothes.

Thrifting and going to a tailor should be your bread and butter. Shit, get a sewing machine and alter easy things yourself. Not hard to put darts in a shirt.

If not, then the clearance rack at H&M and Uniqlo, $15 slim slacks. $10 dress shirts. They look nice but don't last. idk man

If he finishes medical school
And gets a residency slot
And passes his steps
And doesn't kill himself by the time that all happens

Everybody who applies can get into med school....almost nobody actually gets through everything

Acceptance rates are about 5% and drop out rates for American MD programs are 1-2% so you have it exactly backwards.

Almost no one gets in, almost no one drops out.

If you live in NYC go hang out in hip neighbourhoods - DO NOT take advice from FA.

I cannot stress this enough, FA is filled with autists. There is almost no taste here, there is so much wrong with this site that it would take an essay to begin on it, but to put it shortly, fa is the fashion equivalent of the guy who used to like MLP but not talks about how he 'graduated' to Naruto

>>10394499
I think another important aspect of /fa/ that one should recognize is how young everybody here is. If you're an adult, you shouldn't be taking fashion advice from highschoolers.

idk why you need a suit for med school, but there's a suit supply in midtown and LES that has great fitting OTR suits for around 500. pretty worth it since you get to try on the suits as well.

>>10393723
shit advice. never waste your time at salvation or goodwill looking for clothes. head to one of the several beacon's closets (the one in williamsburg is the best) and find stuff you like. it's all traded clothes from young, hip, and rich people so there's always some great finds for a similar price as thrift clothing.

look if youre poor just get a cheap suit, with cheap materials i.e. h&m, zara etc. they have good cuts sometimes and since youve read the sticky you know what to look for (right length, pocket size, collar size etc.)

We are addressing different things btw. Any one school will have a VERY low acceptance rate. (Columbia is 2.2%, bro) even dental programs are usually 5%

oh fug, now I'm keking it up. The worst american MD programs have acceptance rates below 10%.
Being right is never out of style.

Good suggestions so far, thanks guys. I guess I'll go back to other boards now.

so one person applies to multiple schools and, statistically speaking, will enroll
everybody does that enough times and the numbers look staggering
bad news though: you're still wrong

the number of graduates relative to the number of residency slots, on the other hand, is horrifically out of proportion
there's a family practice (lowest form of medicine) program in the rinky dink city I live in and no other program within 200 miles. there are twenty slots every year, and there are like 3000 applicants; I know the MD in charge very well because I work at the hospital his residents round at.....he said that they get seasoned surgeons/specialists from other countries who are willing to leave their practices for a chance to work in america, and as such, even american medical school graduates have to fight hard to actually get the opportunity to gain the experience necessary to sit for boards and eventually practice medicine. the odds are very much stacked against anybody who starts med school to actually become a full-fledged doctor; sadly, they're too short-sighted to see that

The sticky seems acceptable for producing non-autists though.
I know what looks good from what looks bad but sometime it's hard to know where to start, and that why good experiences are valuable to hear about. I mean that suit form Black Lapel suit looks nice, I just booked an appointment to get measured so that's nice (pic related). Going to be honest with them about knowing diddly-dick about how to choose the right stuff and just get something biz-cas.

I've never even owned anything nice beyond my "dress" suit which is wool and Italian. That really just hit me last year. Need clothes not for school but for showing my face on a date.
