Why do fedoras look shit and unfashionable?

Is it because the people wearing them are unattractive?

Is it because the people wearing them are children and take photos in cringeworthy poses where they think they look all suave and sophisticated cos of a hat?

Can they still be legitimately pulled off today or are they ruined forever?

hats just don't look good

There are plenty of good designers every year that put them on runway and have them succeed. Extrapolate from that context what works and compare it to the one that doesn't.

So is it the fact they're wearing it out of context. Ie. Without a suit or long coat.

Or just that they're not adult business men walking through winter streets but are teenagers in a restaurant trying to look edgy and unique.

I'm genuinely curious to what extent some internet nerds have killed fedoras or if they were never fashionable to begin with.

Hats, and to a lesser extent, watches, just seem so tryhard to me.

>> No.10390437

Start wearing fedoras again now while it's sort of not cool and you will be ahead of the game when they are post-ironically adopted.

I mean, it's multi-factorial:

(1) We associate those who wearing them with a very specific type of nerd - the "classy" fuck who tries too hard. That stigma is gonna stick around for a long, long time.

(2) As >>10390211 mentions, they are worn out of context 99.9% of the time, and that doesn't help the situation. The guy in the OP photo is a good example - horrible shirt, horrible vest, etc.

(3) Even assuming (1) and (2) were fixed, the fedoras are cheap bullshit that look awful. They just look like something the guys buy from J.C. Penny or something.

(4) Even assuming the above, classic menswear tends to always look better on older, more mature men - not pudgy young dudes.

Bateman gave you an excellent answer.

Another factor to consider is that formal hats disappeared after 1960. Before JFK was in office, men were expected to wear a hat as part of their suit. JFK did not. After that, hats fell out of vogue and have not returned

How does /fa/ feel about wide brimmed hats on girls? Everyone tells me hats suit me, but I don't want to end up looking like a fool

But I'm British.

Yes.
If you're female.
And model-tier.

Everyone else need not apply.

Depends if the hat fits your head and if the style matches your face. A good hat generally costs up over a hundred dollars. There's really no ceiling on price. Avoid cheap crap.

Oh, look, an obvious sun hat. I hate them. It makes an outfit look like it was ripped straight off of a primark mannequin.

this, for better or worse

several meme tier model bros with all the tattoos have done three things recently: grew out hair or got 90s curtains, shaved off their beards, and started wearing fedoras or whatever similar gay classy hat
