How to achieve this kind of hold? I normally use a wax or creme, not nearly powerful enough to hold it back like that, especially not for longer periods.
I have straight hair. Posting a few pics.

Hey guys, never been to /fa before. Curious. I am a male with long curly hair and I am thinking of cutting. I have very frizzy, curly, thick hair, sort of like what happens when you rub a balloon against your head. Because of this, even when I straighten my hair, it looks awful. What can I do to make my hair look silkier and softer? It's like steel wool and I fucking hate it.

i've tried this method of wax, blow drying, etc. so many times before it's just utterly ludicrous. is it even possible to get this kind of hold with fine blonde hair? like it's so incredibly difficult to deal with, it has no "texture" to it at all. it's very naturally flat so of course it usually just ends up falling all over my face anyway

i'm this close to just giving up because my hair invariably looks like shit no matter how much product i use. how do people do it

i have medium/longish length hair for a guy and i have a super saiyan spikey afro kind of thing. i only wash my hair once or twice a week and i achieve the style by doing the following:
1) jump out of shower with wet hair
2)dry hair with a hairdryer, possibly use a hair straighter if the curls are too stronk but not too much
3) grab the wet towel and get a moist section (not dry, not wet) and i kind of semi-dread lock my hair, not too much, about 3-5 full rotations to the top of my head
4) then i grab a wide spaced comb and lightly comb it into its desired shape (slight curve to my left) also, fingers work well on this step
5) hairspray, around the whole style to preserve it, i can drive to work with the window down having a ciggie and it wont move if i pulled it off correctly.

this will last the entire day but gets a little fucked from wind and sweat etc but all in all it works wonders.
if i shampoo my hair more often it will fall down too easily..also it looks terrible if i sleep on it.
but while im at work it gets it done.

I've been easing into no-poo for about a year, steadily increasing the duration between shampoo days. On the no poo days my hair is better than its every been; voluminous, not oily, can hold pretty well with a minimal amount of product.
On shampoo days, though, it's straight-up lifeless; flat (sort of like pic related) and a little drier than usual.
Is there something I can or should put into it after shampooing to give it more life right away?

FOR MY CURLY BRETHREN: I've tried some of the weird myth sounding things and has helped tremendously, might be obvious to some of you but figured it might help people.

I lowered shampoo to about size of a nickel or so, and dry my hair off with a cotton tshirt instead of a towel.

Been over a week now and only great hairdays, way less frizz.

I use shampoo about twice a week now, have curly and frizzy hair and the moment I shampoo it it becomes impossible to do anything with. I'd shampoo even less but I'm using rogaine drops on the crown of my head and it itches like hell, not every day, but enough to make me want to scratch my scalp bloody. So I'm using that nizorol shampoo with a couple small eye dropper's worth of tea tree oil in it, the oil really provides good relief of the itch. The question I have is is there any benefit to leaving the shampoo/oil on for the duration of my shower? Should I just lather it up and wash it out, or should I do it first and leave it on there 'till I rinse it out at the end? I'd like to just apply the tea tree oil with an eye dropper direct to the scalp, but I can't make it stop just running right off and down my neck, at least not very easily.

Anybody use Hanz de Fuko products? Just copped a jar of the sponge wax, and also got a free sample pack of all 6 styling products. So far I like using the scheme cream in damp hair, style while blowdrying, and then using the sponge wax to finish off and hold it in place. Pretty good stuff, would recommend.

I wash my hair with sulfate-free and silicone-free shampoos and conditioners every 3-6 days. In between washing days, I bathe instead of showering to avoid wetting my hair. I massage most of the shampoo and conditioner into my scalp and only apply to the mid/lower sections when they're too oily. I never apply heat and only air dry. I brush my hair when wet after the shower. After, I brush once daily. I only wash my hair during the evenings because I prefer its appearance after sleeping on it for at least a night. How often I wash my hair really depends on how I want to wear it. For example, if I want to achieve the look in my photo, I have to not wash my hair for a longer period of time to allow my scalp to produce more oils. Sometimes, I’ll use a tiny amount of argan oil, coconut oil, or shea butter to supplement. Once in a blue moon, I’ll sit in the bath and apply a hair mask.

This routine works for me, but you may or may not have to adjust for your own hair.

Having darker hair helps to avoid it looking like its full of shit. Your hair is most likely different from the inspo you posted so you'll need different product. If you have thin hair you might be shit out of luck tho. I guess you could try to volumize, but with thin hair you're not going to get far.

I don't think you have to trim your hair in a while. It looks like you easily could power through the "awkward phase" of growing it out by slicking it back.
