In fact, she considered herself very plain and not particularly attractive.
What make Audrey a style icon was her relaxed outlook on life plus good stylists. Even her son has said at home she mainly wore jeans/pants and tshirts, unless they were having company. She spent a lot of her time outdoors, mainly gardening, and her favorite food was potatoes. Not exactly the image of glamour people think of when they think of AH, but she knew how to be relaxed, even when she was styled to the nines, and that was why she was so appealling.
