Hi, /fa/.
I am trying to put together an outfit and I have no idea what I am doing. I spent too long studying and getting degrees and not long enough figuring out how to dress myself pretty - I am trying to fix this.

I like knits and flowers a lot and want to put them together. I also love the look of fishnets with girly dresses.

Does this outfit work? I thought the floral fishnets and floral dress got along ok and then the colors in the dress match some of the colors in my knit cardigan. I have a close up that is better lit so you can see the colors more clearly too that I will post after the OP.

What do you think? How can I do better?

Honestly it just seems too busy, I'd ditch the floral leggings and decide whether you want the patterned sweater or the patterned sundress. You can wear some other sort of leggings but the outfit as I said is extremely cluttered and busy. There's a ton of things going on and my eye can't immediately decide what to be drawn to.

too many patterns at once choose one (or two if you really have to) otherwise i think you have the right idea. check out people at work/school/wherever and steal fashion ideas from them. the most important thing isnt the details, those are secondary- most important is being able to step back and look at the outfit and it looks like it's put together well, like instead of "red cardigan.... flower dress" you should think "outfit" first... should be cohesive

Thanks for the advice. I will not wear that outfit out. Too many paterns and also apparently the fishnets are too much like a tranny prostitute (?).

If anyone is willing to help with another question I have, I could also use some advice on when tailoring is helpful and when you are "fighting" too hard against your body type/what naturally looks best on you.

I saw a pretty dress and coat and bag outfit today at Brooks Brothers (pic related, the outfit on the mannequin) and tried the dress on. I was sad because it didn't fit right at all - an 8 fit my waist and shoulders and a 12 fit my hips and bust. Would getting the 12 tailored in the shoulders and waist make a flattering dress for me or would it be a waste of money?

You should have the waist taken in to accentuate your figure--which by the way I think is lovely contrary to the negativity on this board. I think that dress rocks as a layering piece. I would say the leggings and the tights would work with a single coloured dress. My boring /fa/ influenced brain is telling me to say go with a black dress, but that may or may not be your style.
I think the dress would look nice with bare legs (I know a lot of girls aren't comfortable going bare legged, but I think it looks best with summery dresses).
I also think the cardigan is too wintery for the floral dress, I'd go with a black kimono, if you have one. Also send pics of what shoes you'd wear.
