the watch market just keeps automatics in luxurywatch tier but that happens for certain reasons that hold no significance to me personally.

got my new swatch in the mail today. barely remember the last one I bought as a teen way back but it's great. that silicone strap is so comfy, very light-weight, it has day/date, nice lume. doesn't even tick as loudly as some people on amazon always say about them. it's not unpleasant or noticeable. can really recommend getting one if you want something cheap, good-looking but has great quality. paid about 50 eurobucks but this is without shipping.

only downside is not even the fault of the watch: I noticed a very small mark some retard left on the plastic case, probably while adjusting time and date but it's barely even noticable and only in certain lighting conditions. so no need to send it back yet. I just don't want to blame stuff like that on the plastic case.

Buying a mechanical watch is the same as buying a $50 white tshirt. It's overpriced, only slightly superior in quality (saphire glass and better metal on the casing are more durable than what a swatch or timex will offer) and a layman won't even notice.

Yet people buy them because it's important for them. You pay for exclusivity and the feeling, not only the product.

>> No.10299359

none of that is wrong, since I even own automatic watches too but feelings about stuff you own come from your individual relationship with it. everything is a product in the end and nothing is prone to disaster or getting broken so I'd rather have something that can be easily replaced although I totally get what you say.

It's not like battery for quartz watch is super expensive anyway, it's also not hard to change the battery either, which will last for quite a long time before it runs out of power.

if you like it, that's cool, and really all that matters. but, aesthetics aside (because of how personal it is), for that kind of money there are some fantastic watches out there that are better made and will hold their value much better than any Tag will.

if buying a diver with that budget, i would have picked up a vintage omega seamaster (or a shogun for half the price).

a vintage omega constellation or a junghans max bill would also fit nicely in that range, as would any number of hamiltons (old or new).

Tell me, what does it mean to you? Does it feel like an accomplishment? Like reaching a certain level in life or career? Or is it something you've always loved and coveted as a piece of history and engineering? Do you have other watches?

As for the damage the pawn shop told me that they fixed it but there are some marks on it. On the lower left it looks like there are teeth marks near the bezel, they had it catch on something it took out the bezel and it knicked the crystal slightly.
The shop had a service done/wr testing on the watch and changed the bezel.

you've clearly been here too long, get some fresh air. but I thought about getting a similar one too. they even got different colored models in green, babyblue, pink, yellow and orange now. although pic related could have been an unofficial modjob. personally I would go for one of these because I simply don't like black watch cases and straps much. I wouldn't take the silver version either because people report that the coating comes off easily which would be so annoying.

The general rule is that white dials are dressier and black dials are more casual but nobody is really going to stop you to laugh at you for wearing a black dial with a suit or a white dial with a T-shirt or something. well, femanon, if you want a digital Casio there are two nice lady models out there as well. just go to the casio website or amazon. in case you're concerned about the size.

the a168w and the b640 you quoted are both unisex though and would work as well.

pic related is model nr. LA670 and it also comes with full gold colored face instead of the black and I know there are versions in silver and with metal bracelet in gold and silver as well. they even got ones with blue leather straps.

the other one would be the LA680.

In case of the Timex Weekender it doesn't matter because they both got that indiglo feature anyway but overall, I think black faces are better because a darker dial with bright numbers is easier readable than vice versa.
it's a matter of personal taste though. I like how white dials look in general but I have this weird thing that once I start wearing the watch it doesn't feel right to me having a white dial on it all of a sudden. I think black dials feel a lot "safer" as a color choice in public. but that's just me. if you're not concerned about any of that and have no preference, get either white or black, it wouldn't matter.

/fa/ really doesn't like them. mostly because they are mall-tier shit and oversized as fuck and have pretty ugly and gaudy clusterfuck designs on the same level with diesel watches at times.

but since you say the watch clearly works for you, that's good, what more could you want if people compliment you for it. keep wearing it then.

Watch thread guys hate pilot watches, especially quartz ones, but I've always liked them as everyday casual watches. I keep wanting to pick up one of those Skyhawks but have never gotten around to it. If one shows up at Costco for their usual discount I'll probably go home with it.

Speaking of Costco and overly complicated pilot watches, my local store has this in their case. I'm sure /fa/ will hate it, but I think it looks pretty good in person.

There are lots of brands out there that don't get a lot of credit. A man should have a good quartz, and a good automatic, in my mind. For really nice, entry-level automatics check out Certina. I have never seen someone with one before in the US or Europe (they are ore popular in Asia) but they have great styling and basic but reliable Swiss ETA movements.

The DS-1 Day-Date is what I am wearing right now. I have more expensive watches but keep coming back to this. The DS-1 Chrono is really nice too if you want a busier dial and need a chronograph, but I like the relative simplicity of the day-date.
