/fa/,

need some help on suits. I work as a consultant and have a few slim-fit form Zara, but looking for one higher-end one (budget USD $500-700, limit $1k).

My first would be Hugo, cause they are quite slim-fit (wondering though whether, unlike shirts where slim-fit is must, slim-fit actually doesnt look that good in suits). However I read that the suits from boss are decent but not worth their money.

What else then? Armani? Unknown Italian designer? Also, obviously there will be a manual adjustment to the suit, but I don`t want a complete suit made by hand (as their cut seem to be straight out of the nineties)

I am from Europe, so I can only check ones that are available here (Italy is just around the corner).

Thanks

Aim for classic if you want something that will look good for a long time. I would say slim is a good idea, as long as it's not "skinny." Be aware that skinny in suiting is trendy, just like how huge lapels and pleats were trendy in the 90's. Something that fits like the suit in your pic is pretty much timeless. Some may consider that to be overly slim, but if you're young and in shape I say go for it. If you have the cash, I say go for bespoke. That way you can get it made exactly how you want without having to search for a brand that you like.

Go to a mid range tailor and have them make you one.

not an option, as local tailors here are stuck in the nineties (i.e. wide fit) and could not make a modern suit if their lives depended on it.

I really hate the fashion trend to make suits three sizes too small. Which faggot came up with that again?

Made to measure > off the rack in EVERY circumstance. Don't blow cash on something stupid like Hugo or Armani - "designer" off-the-rack suits are overpriced and don't have much better quality than cheaper suits - and Italian suits are utter shit. You really should avoid buying any suit that has not at least minimally been designed for your shape. This is especially the case because off-the-rack suits seem to mostly rely on the "quality" of their fabrics, which is not exactly the most important factor in a suit in the first place (Super 100 > Super 200 if you're looking for an everyday suit).

Get something made to measure and then have it tailored in person. As I've said many times before on here, Indochino, Black Lapel, Thick as Thieves LA, etc. are all excellent choices. I believe all ship internationally.

Rule 1) Get basic understanding about construction
Rule 2) Dont buy high fashion suits with slim ass lapels like Dior, Lanvin, garbage like Burberry
Rule 3) Stop asking 'does X designer have good quality'. No high fashion designer makes their own suits. They are all made by italian tailors, most of which make suits, shirts etc for multiple high fashion labels
Rule 4) If you buy high fashion suits never buy outside of sale

>I am from Europe, so I can only check ones that are available here (Italy is just around the corner).
Which is basically all of them. Europe is suit central. Nowhere do you have more options than here. 99% of all 'off the rack' suits are tailored in Italy or Japan.

Read more carefully. The brands I recommended are all ones that custom make outfits based on your measurements. You don't try anything on.

Reading through the thread, most posters seem to be on the rag or something.

Yes, a bespoke suit will look much better than something off the rack, but there is nothing, NOTHING to say against Boss or Armani.

I own several Boss suits and one Armani suit. I am especially fond of my Boss suits, especially the Hugo line. The fabric quality is fantastic and the fit is great, provided you have a suitable figure.

Bottom line: If you have the cash, then go for bespoke suits. If not, Boss is a great choice.

>Yes, a bespoke suit will look much better than something off the rack, but there is nothing, NOTHING to say against Boss or Armani.
Nope.
- Portions of the suit are glued
- Poor stitch quality in minor areas (stitching in some internal areas of the coat, etc.)
- Unnecessarily expensive due to the fabric (which is, at least as I've seen, way too high of a thread count for its own good)
- Obvious price jump based on brand

>The fabric quality is fantastic and the fit is great, provided you have a suitable figure.
But this is, by far, the worst part of these suits. "Suitable figure" is not a factor in suits because there is not some sort of standard-fit man to which we all aspire. The after-the-fact tailoring may not be noticeable if, for example, the changes are minor or are in odd areas, but you always run the risk of screwing up the proportions, the hang of the suit, etc.

most people look down on it as it's like trying to fix something that ain't broke
this mindset may change but for now people still view as wearing suit that hugs your contours as distinctively unprofessional and is way past the point
you can always go on wearing slim suits, but don't try it on a business setting, lest you want to be mocked and ridiculed

Lanvin, Burberry and Dior arent slim suits. Stuff like Paul Smith and Prada are slim suits. Those three are skinny suits with skinny slim lapels.

I dont wanna call them a fashion fad but they are more of a fashion statement than actual business attire.

>>10290850
>but there is nothing, NOTHING to say against Boss or Armani
Yeah, apart from the shitty fabrics and the fused construction. But apart from that, nothing wrong, sure.

To be honest: Boss suits are one of the reason why people hate suits so much. They sell for 500+ and pretend to be something special while in reality are basically the same fused garbage you can get for half the price. I would hate suits as well if I had to wear fused shit that feels stiff and simply doesnt fit.

>>10290867
What >>10290885 and >>10290903 said. The reason why I told you to not buy suits with slim lapels is because they simply arent business attire. Dior and Lanvin suits arent slim. There hardly are suits that are more cut for skeletons than Dior Homme. It simply doesnt look right in a professional environment.

You also have to consider that a hungry skeleton will not look like a trustworthy person. A fit person will be way more appealing to clients. And if youre a skeleton you will want to try to at least not look like one. Slim suits are fine. But Dior and Lanvin rarely are slim. They are ultra skeleton mode only slim. The lapels being the worst part.

One thing that I completely forgot to mention is that the vast majority of Dior Homme suits are black. Never wear a black suit unless its a tuxedo or youre attending a funeral.

>>10290955
Since the OPs price range is rather vague he probably has to settle for fused shit. And I guess Hugo Boss is the best fused shit you can get (its still shit though).

Most decent italian half/fully canvassed tailors price their stuff at ~1100+, fully never really starts below ~1600 I guess. Boglioli or Lardini for example. I heard good things about Hackett so you might wanna check out those. Apart from that you could just visit a tailor. But as I said: due to limited funds it would probably be better to just buy Hugo Boss suits I guess.
