Just look at those horrible outfits. And these are models.

Works here. Probably because there's a clear cut between the to denim pieces.

If the outfit is good, then it works. If the outfit is shit, then it doesn't work. Any other rules claiming it only works this way or that way are generally gonna be rooted in what's in at the moment or how to avoid what just went out of style. you could do double dark denim and make it work, double light denim, dark over light, light over dark, or medium over light over medium. Just make sure everything's cohesive, like any other outfit. How worried everybody gets over double denim is so weird.

Agree. Some things just stick. Personally i think if you got a tee longer than the jacket, it breaks up the demin and looks fine. Double denim it niggas. Plus if u live in a city its a big bonus. Even if it looks bad, theres always someone on the street dressed in a stupider outfit

>> No.10276611

>>10273006
best in the thread by far.

double denim is borderline faux-pas because it's worn by people with no ability to put an outfit together. so you get a sea of denim. giant blocks of color. even if they're different colors of denim, it's still the same material, it's the same texture. maybe it's broken up by a tiny bit of leather (belt, boots), but it's still 85%-95% denim. you don't wear an outfit like >>10272897, those outfits wear you.

back to >>10273006. visually, blue/denim only make up 60% of his look. but that's not even fair to say because of the way it's broken up.

look at the changes in material. that lined jacket really helps. fuzzy liner contrasted with hard denim. two materials, two colors, two textures.

soft sweatshirt adds a third texture and a new shade.

distressed denim jeans. rips/burrs add a fourth texture. as a bonus, it breaks up what can be an overwhelming color block in most outfits.

patterned linen/cordura? bag. a fifth texture. further breaks up sea of blue. pattern and color of bag link socks to sweatshirt.

leather shoes add a sixth texture and another color.

your eyes love this shit. scientific fact. they're moving all over this outfit.

go back and look at all the double denim outfits you think are shitty. without even thinking about the fit, count the numbers of materials, the colors, and the textures. the lower these numbers are, the less visual interest, the less double denim "works."

ask what percentage is denim. what percentage is a tint or shade of blue. the higher these numbers, the less visual interest, the less double denim "works."

If the denim pieces are different washes or shades it is fairly easy. Its when they are the same it can go into Canadian tuxedo territory really quickly.
