I think you're approaching this in a quite a shallow way. Suddenly wearing turtlenecks, which have been out of fashion for some time, just because it fits some people's idea of an 'intellectual' isn't interesting fashion or "/lit/core". Same goes, I think, for wearing brown blazers size too big and cosplaying as your old, giddy professors.

The 'intellectual fashion' should be either bland and non-existent, which in our times would be simplistic dadcore/monochrome(NOT Hemingway/Wittgenstein cosplay), OR it should be a viable statement, related to what the person has to say, what he/she might stand for.

My personal idea of intellectualcore would be something that's slightly fashionable, homeless-like, ironic, hipster, something that's 'aware' but not completely committed, it hints at all those things, at how shallow people's perception of someone can often be (see this thread), but never fully adheres to anything, just saying 'i know' but not participating. Something along the lines of christina slater in mr robot actually, just with some hints at newer stuff, like palewave and vaporwave, but that's just me, something that plays into my worldview.

tl:dr Stop cosplaying you dipshits, and put some thought into your clothes

Turtlenecks have been back in style since 2014 Winter.

You don't have to exclude yourself from the fashion world to be intellectual, they're not mutually exclusive by any means. Some great minds don't care for fashion, others are meticulous when it comes to their clothing preferences.

My own concept of intellectualcore is basically what the protagonist wears in "A single man", the Tom Ford movie.

To extend: I feel that the emphasis is a lot less on fashion trends such as your cropped pants, loafers or excessively tailored #menswear suits. More just dressing cleanly, fitting your clothes, having a clean and well maintained haircut.

Some of the outfits from "The Imitation Game" could also be inspo. I think there was an old thread on Sufu about movies for inspo and there are a few in there which would be useful for this topic.

I feel you. Obviously, fashion can be separate from what you do. Then trend among most writers in my country is pure #menswear, which doesn't have much to do with what they write, they just present themselves in good suits, that's 100% fine.

My point is, those guys didn't really stand out in their times, they just dressed the safe, generic way so if someone wants to do that now, he should go for things that are safe today, among his/hers age group, not Kerouac cosplay.

Or you know, actually express themselves through clothing and wear something interesting and relevant, whatever that may be for them.

I'm not sure where you live, I'm based in Brisbane // Australia.

If I had to do it for cheap I would go to a store like Roger David, Topman, David Jones and find one that I can verify is cotton then take it to a tailor. Probably closer to $200 for tailored pants and $400-$500 for the jacket then. I don't suspect that you'll find anything cheaper though

Flashbacks to when I was young and poor.

Asos sells pre-cropped pants for $40 and full suits for $150. Terrible quality and you might want to re-tailor them, but it's a starting point.

Definitely advocate saving up and buying a $1000~ suit that will look nicer and last 5x as long at least.

Yes. Buy a decent fitting suit off the rack and have it tailored. Make sure the shoulders fit. This is the most important consideration because it's very hard to tailor shoulders after the fact. If you're in the US, you can go to Nordstrom and sign up for a Nordstrom card (free and just linked to your bank account) and get $100 of free alterations a year. Some other places do free alterations as well.

I think it really has to do with what that intellectual thinks.

The last thing you'd want to do is to generalize "intellectuals" under a broad umbrella category. There are many of them, and due to the nature of what they do, they have very diverse opinions—some of which affect how they dress, for better or worse.

/fa/ only cares about cosplaying as an intellectual instead of becoming one by merit. Instead they seek approval and validation for it through their clothing because it's much easier to buy your way to a persona than to practice it, like these guys over here

You realize this is a fashion board, right? About fashion?

Whether or not someone wants to be a "real intellectual" is frankly irrelevant to the thread and board in general. Take that shit to /lit/ or whatever, we're here to talk about turtlenecks and tweed jackets, not about actual intellectual discussion.

>Instead they seek approval and validation for it through their clothing
Don't know what that has to do with >>10270793, but whatever.
Frankly, you seem to have a problem with talking about fashion in a thread about fashion, which doesn't really make sense to me.

/fa/ really is retarded huh?
there is no such fashion.
if you look back in time and apply it to ours it doesn't make sense.
you won't dress like socrates.
core of philosopher/intellectual should be neglecting your appearance as much as possible, since those guys are actually using their brain and the limited of time granted to us on earth shouldn't always be spent playing dress up.

what? thats spergy BS. Your appearance dictates how you will come across to the vast numbers of people you will meet casually in life. Any reputed intellectual (this thread is kinda dumb anyway) would be aware of the usefulness of appearance and mannerisms for being convincing, likeable, leadership material, all that.

Most intellectuals live entirely for the mind and don't give a fuck about fashion, as is evidenced by the complete lack of fashion sense seen by most of them. The only recent public intellectual with any fashion sense that I can remember is Camus, so I suppose an intellectuals fashion sense is inversely correlated with the quality of their philosophy.

I feel like someone who is actually an intellectual and doesn't just have autism would care about how they dress because dressing well improves your quality of life. It influences how people see you and treat you.
I don't think I would have any friends if I wore clunky white running shoes, light blue jeans, and ill-fitting graphic tees.
