Going to the barber is a waste of money. I cut my hair as many time as I want, just need to get the machine and razors, practice with your brothers/friends and on your own, you will get good with time. JUST DO IT

Yep! Been doing the last four or five attempts at this cut at home. Starting to get better at it but I'd recommend saving yourself the hassle and find a good barber.

This. I once asked the barber to cut my hair "half way down," as in cut it down to half it's then-current length, but he apparently thought I was referring to the image halfway down the poster on the wall, which was essentially a buzzcut.

I don't get haircuts often, because my hair grows really slowly and stops after a certain length, anyway (it's been over a year since my last one). But it's always seemed like my hair options are limited (4c hair here). Seems like I can shave it, grow it, or shave some of it and grow some of it. Not much I can think of other than a fade, and I'm not sure I want to do that. Any other ideas?

OP, just cut your own hair. It saves money and you'll get really good at it eventually. And high fades are easy to cut
