Anyone have some doc inspo

Is it possible to wear docs with skinny jeans when you have skelly legs ? or will i look like I'm wearing astronaut boots?

>> No.10148700

I wanted to get Docs for a while now but I've heard a lot of shit talked about the chink-made Docs.

I have Clark Malis atm that have held up acceptably considering I've done nothing to treat them well but I cannot wear them because once I move next year, I have to have boots that won't make me slip on wet street surfaces.

Docs were my first instinct but I keep hearing that they fall apart, the leather is shit, the soles are shit etc. now that they are made in grorious China rather than the UK.

Can any anons weigh in on the quality and durability of Chinese Doc Marten 1460s?

I've owned Docs for a few months now. My laces tore, despite not having rigorously pulled the laces. Apart from that they have hold up pretty well. Creasing is to be expected, but that and dirt give them more of a interesting look imo.

You should see if you can thrift a pair because I feel their retail price is not justified. Less than 50 $ should be reasonable for what you get in return.

I've had a pair of chinky Docs for years. I wear them numerous times a week. They survived three games of Shrovetide Football (Look it up, it's pretty brutal on footwear), multiple dunks in water and mud regardless. Months working behind a busy bar. They've had the shit kicked out of them and they're still coming up lovely after a wash and polish. It looks like the thing that will ultimately write them off is the gradually wearing-through soles.

Hell, I've ridden my motorbike in them a few times, never crashed, mind. But just riding and shifting gears is kinda abusive.

From what I've heard it's England > China > Taiwan

Tbh I've only ever worn England bolts and a single Taiwan boot but China shoes so I can't do a straight comparison.

Taiwan boot didn't look like quality leather, was too shiny and just looked a bit off. Never broke it in properly because it was too big and I sold it on eBay.
China shoe had the same problem, bought my usual size and it ran too big. Scuffed pretty easily and the leather was prone to creasing. Selling them on at the moment because they're too big.

Never bought a modern made in England boot, all mine have been from the early 90s either handed down or bought second hand. Leather seems and looks a lot better - doesn't have the shiny plasticy look a lot of the overseas boots do. The soles are better too, overseas soles have hollow compartments inside and the light can shine through, older English boots are solid all through. The laces snapped on my 6 holes recently but that's easily enough replaced.
Never found older boots to run big either, where I'm swimming in the same size recent overseas varieties.

If you like the shinier new look and the longevity doesn't matter as much there's not much wrong with the China and Taiwan boots, just size down.
If you prefer a less smooth/shiny look and prefer a more solid sole go for older boots and they mostly run true to size.

Try and get monos if you can. Also, swap out the shitty stock laces for some nice waxed ones. Pic related are mine, I hated how shiny they were, so I distressed the shit out of them with sandpaper.

I own a made in England pair of docs and they've creased hideously compared to a made in China pair I own. I've conditioned both pairs, but honestly the Chinese made pair are very comfortable and look really good, whereas my English pair are fucking uncomfortable and look shit because of the uneven and obnoxious creasing.

you know the sizing on the laces 42" or 54"?

>> No.10151337

>>10151325
Can't remember tbh. I think they were around 180 cm, so around there should be fine. If the laces are too big you can just fully lace the boot and wrap the remaining lace around your ankle a couple of times. If they laces are too small, you're fucked. So the bigger the better.

I got skinny legs and I wear em all the time.

Gotta pair of Chinese ones February 2014. For $80, I'd say they were a decent buy. I wear them all the time. Once I broke them in, they became really comfortable. The soles have worn quicker than I hoped. Since I like the look and feel a lot, I think next I'll splurge on the newEnglish ones or a used pair of MIE Docs, Gripfast, or Dockers.
