There are different "solutions" like minoxidil and finasteride that essentially lower your testosterone production, and thus dihydrotestosterone (DHT) concentration in your body.

Unfortunately they can have the side effect of chemical castration. I'm not even kidding.

The best is to take low doses of minox while you still have a lot of hairline left.

In real life what I have noticed is that people that work out and life a fairly healthy life often have a nice set of hair/hairline. It's often the fatties/workaholics that loose it.

>> No.10143958

>>10143084
this is incorrect, minoxidil increases bloodflow locally on you scalp, and finasteride blocks conversion from testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. btw, testosterone gets converted to estrogens too, so if the DHT pathway is blocked....

>> No.10143966

>>10143958
and thus minoxidil has almost no sideeffects, whereas finasterid can really fuck up you hormones, make you depressed, lower your libido, etc.

also studies have shown that sideeffects can remain, even when you stop taking the finasteride :(

and lastly for everyone who thinks they can just take a 5mg pill, and cut it in half two times, it doesnt work that way because the pill has a coating that is necessary so that it doesnt get destroyed in the gut. if you cut the pill, its completely useless

>> No.10144000

I was on minox only for a few years as a preventative since my dad is bald. No side effects at all and unsure if it was preventing anything but it did make my hair grow quicker.

But over the course of three weeks earlier this year I lost about 50% of the volume of my hair in the front and on a spot right above my crown. I freaked out and buzzed and it looked ok at about 1.6mm length and I went on finastercide as well. Within 4 weeks (no joke) it had all but grown back. It is crazy thick everywhere now and I have grown about 12cm length in 5 months. Very, very happy.

If you sense any loss in volume I would get on it ASAP and if you don't have any side effects just stay on it. I heard it doesn't work for some people but might as well try, you can just stop if it doesn't do anything for you.

No regrowth on hairline, but... I have always had a high hairline dating back to photos 10 years ago so I am not sure if there was anything to regrow there.

obviously female pattern baldness doesn't really apply but my moms hair is very thick and very wavy.

my hair is also pretty thick and a bit straighter than my moms. the only person in my family that we can compare it to is my maternal grandfather, who had very similar hair in his youth and right now in his early 80s is still type 1 and noticeably thick even though he keeps it crew cut now.

i'm 20 and my hairline is still straight across like it has always been, no recession on temples or anything. even though I push it back (basically young stalin cut) and loose a few hairs i see plenty of new growth to replace any shedding. barber always comments on thickness.

I'm 19. I've been on fin for a year and minox for about half. No sides. My hair is "fine to good". I'm not so vain about my hair as I am scared about losing it and losing out on girls and my mental heath at such a young age.

It's a beautifully complicated and tragic thing - balding in your teens.

You think, oh, there goes any shot at fame (I'm a musician), there goes all shot at any 9s and 10s.

But it's an immediate, crucial, solitary test of your mental health. You pass? What happens? You fail? Then what? You go bald?

Is the better alternative not having to ever worry/notice this shit - ie having normal youthful hair.

(More personal context: I have better than average looks, a great sense of humour, am skinny of fuck, think I have a weird shaped skull, and have never had a GF).

Currently I am popping quarters of Fin each night and applying liquid minox haphazardly in my hair, which I will do after this post.

My biggest fears are the neuro-toxic (GABA?), psychoactive effect of fin, the chance of my sperm's DNA being altered, the chance it may not be doing anything at all (it's hard to tell when obsessive).

The biggest win is that my hair looks fine and should maintain and that I should be able to stop thinking about by the end of the year, I hope, if it's still maintained or better by then.

>> No.10148488

Ive been on fin for over 1.5 years
its at the least slowed the the lost and at most maintained things. I want some regrowth.
Will minox retain its gains so long as I use it or will it lose the regrowth over time?

I wish they would hurry and approve dut for hairloss

>> No.10148506

I've noticed my hairline receding, so I just took the plunge and went with a buzz cut.
People actually say that I legitimately look better now than I did with long thick hair (I know it's not just family and friends being nice to me either, since I also got opinions from people here). Not saying it's for everyone, but you should at least consider a buzz if you have hair problems.

>> No.10148522

>>10148475
You've been given an early pass to manhood. An early reminder that life isn't fair. A chance to be a leader, and you threw that away. You just fight and fight to hold on to one aspect of yourself - your hair.

Look at the chart in OP pic. When you get older your hairline will change, and your hair will thin in a certain pattern depending on your genetics NO MATTER WHAT, but YOU WILL NOT NECESSARILY go bald

Take it from someone who is 26 with no signs of balding - I have to shave my head. Having the hair looks stupid! When I grow hair it looks like I'm wearing a wig because I have the face of a man but luscious youthful hair of a teen. The contrast is silly

Hopefully you get your priorities figured out one day

It has more to do with genetics than any other factor by far, let's take Arnold Schwarzenegger as an example.

For his whole adult life he has been on an unrelenting schedule of constantly lifting weights and taking self proclaimed massive amounts of steroids essentially maxing out his androgen receptors which will in fact has put him in the fast lane to losing hair.

Yet at 67, he still has about the same amount of hair as some unlucky 40 something's.

Sounds like me. My hair was thick and super curly, everyone else in my family had thin, straight hair (inb4 illegitimate child) and no one at least within the past four generations have had any hair loss on either side. At about 25 my hair started thinning, five years later it's just thinner but I haven't lost any hair.

I said fuck it and started shaving my head. Not everyone has the head or look for it. Thankfully it works for me.

Nowadays with a DE razor, shaving soap and shaving brush I quite enjoy shaving my head. So much so I do it every day now rather than every other day like I did with a cartridge razor.
