I am not an expert either but I have been told by experts that there is nothing specifically about organic farming that makes it sustainable, or in other words both organic and non-organic farming methods can be used sustainably or non-sustainably. organic, however, if organic means also non-gmo, cannot be used to feed the worlds population, simply because it requires something like 4 times the land to grow the same amount of produce, and there is not nearly enough land on earth to produce enough food organically.

I think the real hope for mitigating ecological disaster will be in the development of new technologies, such as those plants they grow indoors in water (i forget what you call that, but there have been recent and promising breakthroughs in the technology). I would also guess that laboratory grown meat will be important, since I don't think it's likely many will give up eating meat soon.

all of this is precisely the opposite of this "return to nature" promised by organic farming. it is not only that such "natural" methods are unfit to feed the current population -- they cannot even guarantee survival any population. Nature does not love us, it is cruel and genocidal, and no doubt the environment is currently changing in ways that will make organic or even traditional farming completely unsustainable. Even if by some huge stroke of luck the climatologists are wrong about global warming, we are nonetheless due for a period of natural global cooling that will make the vast majority of farmable land unfarmable.

if anything is dangerous it is the widely held idea that we can solve our ecological woes through some regress to an imagined natural past. and while you are completely right that big agri is a shady business that's fucking up the environment, this says absolutely nothing about the value of organic farming (and it should be noted that big agri has their hands in organic farming as well).

my whole point was that you have to do more than just saying organic. its not our feeding methods that are unsustainable, its our population. we need a smaller population, so that locally grown produce can be grown in season and sustainably without depleting or wasting resources. theres a concept called food miles. by growing huge monocultures, your limiting what people can eat, their choices, specifically in taste, but also in nutrition. your also making the plant (food) population susceptible to plagues and blights. and your wasting water and destroying the soil with fertilizer, as well as our non-renewable resources such as oil used in transportation
another talking point, which i briefly mentioned, is contamination. ive seen studies where the huge processing facilities, which have filters for the air, and have ammonia washes for the meat, these giant facilities that meat (ha, puns), even exceed FDA regulations, have (and i forget the exact number) significant amounts of contaminants. they have a certain germ count that 'hippy' farmers just dont have. the free range, grass fed animals, that are slaughtered and processed out in the pasture and sold right there in the yard had something like 5% the amount of contaminants. thats what im talking about. not even the reselling of old or otherwise spoiled meat, bot the willful selling of contaminated products to meat (that pun again) the bottom line. im talking about setting up an ethical, sustainable food network that runs to keep us healthy and the world a greener place.
its not something that can be easily done in our american society, and its not something im sure can be implemented at all. its something that we, as a whole, have to make a push for. and even then it will be, at best, a supplement to those huge farms and factories out west.

The way I did it was wrapped a sewing needle to a pencil with thread and wound the thread to almost the tip of the needle. Then just dipped it in india ink and got to poking.

Don't do it, though. They turn out shitty and you will regret them. I've had all of mine covered with professional ink.
