True about university fencing, but not about club fencing.

I used to fence at a super competitive club where most people are national level, some international, and some of the coaches are ex-olympic etc. Everyone was straightforward and serious.

Years later I joined a university club, and it's exactly as you describe. Dunno how it works out like that, but I can't think of a single epeeist who wasn't an engy, nor a single foilist that wasn't a weeb. Can't remember what the saberists wore, but probably nothing great.

Club fencing is pretty good though, so long as you join a serious club.

I have a fairly relevant question to do with hobbies and skills etc.
Do you prefer to be a jack of all trades, or prioritize a single hobby in hope of mastery?

I like to think the phrase: 'jack of all trades, master of none', is bullshit. The greatest figures throughout history are more than not polymaths who attempted a range of different things, and were subsequently masters at many skills. I like to think that improving in one skill aids in the improvement of another, however unrelated. It's as if the latter option, to focus on one skill, results in stalling and a very narrow mindset.

I generally have a rule that I need a 50:50 ratio of active:indoor hobbies.

Stuff I continue to do and highly recommend:
- Weight liftng. Good for you, good for your body, good for getting laid. Cheap, but you'll injure yourself.
- Competitive dance. Very obsessed with aesthetics and fun. But very difficult and extremely expensive. Basically shooting fish in a barrel if you like crazy Russian ex-ballerinas.
- Studying for needless degrees. A very bourgeoisie thing to do, but I enjoy it. Makes classmates angry when you realize you're paying out of pocket to take liner algebra for fun.
- Running small start-ups. Not hard, especially if it's compartmentalized. Small websites can net you decent cash for little work (other than some significant work up-front)
- Membership in social parties. Go to cocktail parties, drink free booze, make fun of arrogant hillterns and other arrogant lawyers. Watch the number of people who can't wear a tux correctly.

Stuff I've done and still recommend:
- Fencing. Good for you, reasonably athletic, but reasonably expensive and requires lankiness (at least for foil).
- Martial arts. Kinda useless in present society, but good training. Moderately expensive and most studios suck.
- Cooking courses. Enjoyable to the extent you like to eat.
- Learning new languages. Get foreign pussy. 'cept most foreign pussy sucks for some reason.
- Toastmasters/debate/whatever. Good for getting public fear out. But full of weird gunner types.

Live in Norwich so there's not too many nice places to fish apart from a pond a while away from mine, I try to go out to the beach at least twice a week though
I just wear a white t shirt, some black jeans and whatever shoes I dont mind getting sandy

Caught a few crab and one fish yesterday, all too small so threw them back but it was a nice day

Does chain smoking while youre fishing enhance your look? I'm not exactly a regular smoker but I when I'm fishing I tend to go though half a pack. Something to do while you wait I guess.

A little bit, yep. It's pretty fucking good, especially as a way to stay in shape. Keep in mind, though, that it's a contact sport - you'e going to have a period where it sucks to go because you know you'll get beat up a bit. If you have the discipline to get past that, it's rewarding.
