need product advice for mixed folk curl pattern. ive got some expensive morrocan oil shit from the salon that doesnt appear to have any name save for "M" that i use for moisturizing purposes and some aunt jessies for conditioning. also, keep color, different one or full black?

Can't be sure but if it's flat out argan oil it's prolly not enough. You need a cream formula to actually moisturize your hair (leave in conditioner) and then you seal it with the oil.

So my hair is really dry. It has been this way ever since the I moved to Las Vegas 11 years ago. My hair used to look like pic related when I was 11 now it looks completely dried out with no shine. During the time there I also had an extreme amount of flakes. I've been back on the east side for about 3 years now yet my hair is still dry. Just a couple months ago I started using H&S Dry Scalp shampoo for my slight flakes and it has now gone away completely but my hair is still dry as fuck. The only time my hair shines is for the first 30 minutes after I get out of the shower. I have tried Coconut oil and I use the Curl Enhancer Smoothie every now and then. What can I do to fix this?

great for curls/moisture

just leave it in for 5 mins during your shower and rinse it out
I've personally seen a dramatic difference than just 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner and people can visibly see that my hair is softer and shinier

I can't say exactly what's wrong but I'd suggest taking up a routine. Of course, condition your hair in the shower. Rinse that out, seal with coconut oil, and use a deep conditioner as well. Once a week, apply a hair mask. That might help.

Please don't cut. You've put a lot of time and care into that much growth. A lot of people don't really understand the effort involved in growing natural hair long, and wrongly assume it stems from laziness. As someone else suggested, a twist out would look good though. I think the best way to make people stop asking when you'll cut it is to just take really good care of it and make it look really nice. You don't want it to stick straight up like that though. Do thinks to emphasize the curls and make them fatter but shorter.

Nope. I probably won't. I'm really lazy. I have pretty decent hair, shoulder length and not impossible to manage. I still usually go with a pony tail. But I looked so much cuter with bantu knots in my hair I wanted to learn how to do it myself and do it well.

I'm a bit confused by that. You don't want to oversaturate your hair with coconut oil. It's good and all but too much of anything can be bad for your skin and hair. Coconut oil in particular can lead to really bad irritation and flaking on your scalp. Also coconut oil is a solid at room temp, so you don't want a huge amount of it in your hair because it congeals. Your main source of moisture for your hair should be your conditioner and leave in conditioner, or some other hair cream or lotion. You use the oil to seal in moisture, not to substitute. Also if you're drying your hair don't use a towel and don't use heat. You probably don't but just throwing it out there.

1. don't ever go to a hair salon and get cut, trimmed, curled, colored by a white woman.
2. don't wash your hair daily
3. do condition or treat your hair daily using either leave-in conditioner or a hair mask you make or buy yourself. aveda makes good products and so does a company branded literally "mixed chicks"
4. always keep your hair in braids if you're trying to grow it out - never use rubber bands or pony tails as it stresses your hair and causes breakage not to mention headaches
5. trim only as needed and only if the hairdresser is someone who KNOWS black hair

I know it seems heavy duty and chemically, but it has alphahydroxy acids which help even skin tone. I had acne scarring because my mixed skin is really fickle and oily when i was a teen. all the dark spots faded really quickly i was surprised. it really helped with discolored marks. moisturizing is also really important but i wouldn't put cocoa butter on my face.

i shampoo only when my hair feels really dirty or my skin starts acting up. washing your hair once in awhile is really important especially when you use a lot of leave-in products because the build up of oils and creams is not good for your skin. Shampooing improperly however will cause your hair to be dry. When I shampoo I do only the roots, massage the scalp and comb through the crown of my head with my fingers and the bottom, never use shampoo at the ends because it causes dryness. If you're not into shampoo and you don't have skin issues then all the better for you

Find a product that has alphahydroxy acids in it, they help your skin regenerate and should help with discoloration, but they are kind of expensive. I posted about the la roche posay serum but that's intended for your face and only like 30ml per 40 dollar bottle. I'm not sure what is comparably good for the rest of the body, but moisturizing is important for any skin issue so you have the right idea.

it really depends how curly your hair is. My hair is a little more tame than my sister's is. We bought this brush that was supposed to be a miracle brush, called the "Wet Brush" worked really great for me for the first couple weeks and then wore out fast. It's a constant struggle trying to find a brush or comb that can handle the curls and not break and actually get through them without me hearing my hair actually tearing and ripping.
