I don't know, but I like it.

What do you guys think about smartwatches? I feel indifferent about them.
They often seem clunky, but I do like the design of the pic related, except the round shape makes it seem a bit silly and impractical.
Does anyone have experience with wearable technology like this?

I'm not quite sure why that's there. It looks like it's a part of the interface. But, I've never had one before. Maybe you can swipe it up to select other apps/controls?

Samsung's Galaxy Gear S had the right idea with the curved display, but the panel is ultimately too thick, in my opinion. What a shame.

so, a lot of techwear appears to be targeted at the northern hemisphere clique, with it's cold and rainy winters...but what of the sunny southern hemisphere? What techwear can I get that will make a 40 degree Celsius (over 100 Fahrenheit for the seppos here) bearable? There are microPCMs in thing like Jayco StayCool T-Shirts- am I missing something, or is that it?

Also, I've been looking into low maintenance base layers; fast drying, easy to clean materials...from what I understand, the most important factor in drying time is the thickness of fabric. With that in mind, I chose nylon; relatively strong and non-absorbant, breathable, wicking...is this a good choice? (the one I'm looking at: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Stylish-2015-Hot-Mens-Slim-Fit-Vest-Sleeveless-Tank-Top-Casual-Gym-Muscle-Summer/32315824720.html))

Finally, what would you consider to be the cheapest outfit possible that could still be considered 'techwear'?

techwear although concentrated around all the blacks and droopy style is still a broad term, as it has a number of different branches. If you havent already seen it, can I direct you to my other post ( >>10075859 )and follow the link.

Towards the bottom there is more athletic oriented clothing which may contain spefically what you are after, however as you'll read there are a number of branches of techwear that isnt fully dressed up and all black.

I feel you man, Ausfag from Sydney here and although it's winter, the black look I like from techwear is never viable in our standard weather.

Mission Workshop is biking oriented, with day to day stuff.

Outlier is best known for their pants (slim dungarees, OGS, etc.), but they also make excellent summer tops.

Proof NY is a more limited version of Outlier. Different pieces, same purposes.

Outerboro rips off the other techwear brands.

TAD is generally tacticool, beware. They have very nice pieces though, like their merino flux hoodie.

Aether is sort of everything.

Ministry of Supply is mainly office techwear.

Can't really comment on the rest, but personally I would add Rapha. 100% bike focused, but they have great day to day pieces.

Planning on moving back to HK (WET & HUMID).
Since I'm in the US I got a bunch of light + breathable stuff from various brands to stay comfy.

Futureworks: More affordable than the rest of their line. The looser fit and stretch makes them feel like sweatpants. Light water resistance.

Ultralight jacket: More practical than stylish.
Was torn between this and the Veilance Isogon. The Ultralight fabric is definitely more breathable but lacks structure so the hood looks kinda sloppy. The old school construction adds to the weight despite its name.

Tops:
Airism undershirts + Linen button up
or
Merino tees/henleys. I like Mission Workshop's because of the nylon core. Holds up far better than 100% merino.

I might try Duckworth soon. They use merino/synthetic blends.

According to the anon posting hiking fits earlier, I guess so. (Why would you need an apron for hiking??)

>> No.10079211

it'd seem like a functional way to add some durability to the front of an outfit, and then add loops and or pockets for tools.
in theory, you could keep all these tools on the apron and it's easy to switch between outfits and activities.
plus the contribution of a cool neck line with the top hem and neck straps.

I'm picking up on the streetwear/parkour/graphitti aesthetics in these outfits and think an apron could fit right in.

plus you get the cool silhouette of having a drop crotch, the weird long shirts the ricky owens puts out, or the weird skirt things that all the fuccbois are into.

I don't know. That's kind of what cargo pants are for. I'd think an apron would just be a bit awkward and get in the way. It'd make it difficult or uncomfortable to run with, especially if it's loaded with gear, and it'd be a pain to ride a bike, or do freerunning

running and biking with cargo pants are fucking awful.
I figured putting the pockets higher up and against the chest would be a little more practical.
Either way, it'd have to be fitted without too much hanging in front. trying to stay away from smock territory.

I dunno. I might diy together an apron and post the results now that I'm thinking about it

thanks anon, good talk, good talk.

Ohh, and before I go. I meant to say earlier, couldn't you have some sort of strap system. Like even just Velcro through some grommets. Or metal snaps every few centimeters. Or even a fucking elastic strap built in to the wall of the pocket. Something to allow you to basically adjust the volume of the pocket, so that you can clamp it down to help prevent the contents from shifting while running, biking, etc.

Might need some reinforcement (plastic sheet, cardboard, etc) on the back side of the pocket - the side facing the body, so that you don't end up with shit just poking your legs or whatever. And then of course, you'd still need the garment to ultimately be fairly form-fitting so that it's not twisting all around and still flailing around.

Why isn't this a thing, ffs?

Maybe I should keep my ideas to myself for mad profits. owell. (but rly, techwear company, call me or something)

Techwear FedEx driver, I actually like it

About the debate over what's techwear and what's not --
At the absolute minimum, I think anything that has the direction/concept or aesthetic of a functional garment or functional outfit at can be considered techwear. Moreover, the outfit as a whole is what really matters -- how much that comes off as techwear, at least, when you look at how cohesive pieces are when put together.

I mean, don't get me wrong, definitely bonus points for actual functionality since that's the core of techwear, but concepts are also worthy of recognition. We're discussing looks, after all -- whether your style is representative of your lifestyle or not is your own business. It's something you just have to get creative with.

>Techwear FedEx driver
Exactly. It's clean, sharp, formal, and would help keep delivery drivers comfortable and dry/warm/cool as appropriate for the weather.

Not exactly cheap for a fleet of people, though. Might be neat for a specialized service in an ultra urban environment.

>We're discussing looks, after all
Thus why I think it's important to look for inspiration outside of just "techwear" (or whatever you're wanting inspo for.) I mean, that's kind of how inspiration works. You find unrelated pieces and shape them and put them together in to a cohesive piece for your own purpose.

The robot mercs in white parkas, or the 3A Star Wars models are nice examples, imo. Synthetic mediums especially offer a lot of flexibility to play around in without much effort/cost relatively.

It's a balance of paying attention to the little details, but also viewing the big picture, like silhouettes, textures, etc.

It's really casual in comparison to average techwear, but the pants still utilize comfortable, moisture wicking and odor-killing materials to allow it to be worn from work in an office, to the gym afterwards, or a brief jog in the morning before work.

>> No.10079776

Have you even read through the thread, anon?

Techwear isnt just about dressing in long blacks and looking futuristic, its about the types of materials and what circumstances you use them for. Sure, the full blacks aren't always practical, but people still dress this way, especially in cooler climates. Heck, if it weren't so hot down here in Sydney most of the time I would be dressing like that.

There are other aspects to techwear too, including biking and hiking, running, etc. If you just assume people were all black and go to cosplay conventions, then that shows you aren't really using your brain in the slightest.

Absolutely. There's no doubt that looking for inspiration outside of outfits helps stimulate unique ideas, coordination, and such. People are more prone to emulating as well, when all they look at are outfits and they consequently end up getting the wrong idea about how style works.

I'm sort of drifting here, but a broad and general example of this problem is pretty evident in WAYWT threads. I mean, sure, wear what you want, but be fully conscious about your decisions.

Thanks for stating this, by the way -- good thinking.

>Any contemporary athletic sneakers is indisputably tech. You can question the goals (go minimal!) but typical sneaker design is leagues ahead technically over typical garment design. The only question is if the shoe's design fits with whatever your personal aesthetic is and/or the aesthetic of the rest of the stuff you're wearing.

>Really, there's no point in asking "is something tech?" There is no techwear rubric, and the creation of one would be an act of profound dumb and missing the point of everything. This is fashion - an art form, part of culture, and an endlessly individual thing. Don't try to dress "techwear," try to dress your self. If this stuff thrills and inspires you, RUN FORWARD WITH IT into life instead of trying to stick to what shit fuccbois on the Internet think.

Danner, Belleville, Corcoran, Under Armor, Redram

And as already posted in this thread here, trail running/hiking/snowboard companies, etc. make a lot of technical gear and should also be kept in mind. Salomon, ON Shoes, Vivo,
