How should an engineering student dress?

I am starting at stanford this fall and I think it's time to mature past radiohead shirts and ripped jeans

I've seen a "STEM Start Kit" image floating around before: blue dad jeans, white NB sneakers, ill fitting obnoxious graphic shirt.

I mean, I wouldn't assume STEM students to be particularly fashionable, but Stanford might be a little better idk. I bet it's still a mix of Zuckerberg-hoodie-slacker and awkward menswear.

As a fellow engineering student, a classic way to dress is business casual. Unless I roll out of bed to class, I will default to some form of business casual dress. (pic related)

Honestly, I would not stress it too much. Your courses are important. Just wondering, what engineering degree are you shooting for? I am a MechE

Switch out the shoes for tan loafers.
Align your shirt with your pants and belt.

Tuck in the shirt so that the excess fabric goes more towards your back, and it looks more fitted at the front.

I thought it was pretty funny when one of them decided to go to school in a black suit and a purple shirt. Engineering students at UCLA are dressed extremely normal. Every so often you will see an asian kid dressed head-to-toe in designer clothes, but that's rare. If you're going through the workload that an engineering major entails, you won't care about the way you dress anymore

Most engineers cannot dress themselves to save their life. Literally just putting in a drop of effort will be sufficient for all purposes. There's no real standard you have to meet - literally anything is better than what most engineers wear.

At my school engineering students have to go up to linear algebra, calc III, and ODEs. At my school, for the applied math degree I have to take an intro to proofs, scientific computing, advanced calc & linear algebra, and probability, as well as 24 units of my choice. The thing is 12 out of those 24 units can be from other departments (read: EE department) so that cuts down my required courses by a considerable amount. It ends up being about 15-16 units a semester since I have to pick up an extra class or two. I'll probably do summer school next time around so that will cut my average down to like the normal ~13 unit semesters.

I transferred from a community college after completing physics101-103, linear algebra, and calc III and intro to programming courses so idk how many you'd have to take each semester if you are a freshman or whatever.

Math/physics are probably the hardest, but only because the concepts are hard if you're bad. It's not much work if you're good at math. This is in contrast to engineering, which is pretty much always as much work as you can put in regardless of skill level, though the concepts are easier.

CS is easy-mode math for people who want easy job prospects.

Chem E is the hardest engineering, but I don't have much to back that up. Assloads of diffyq mixed with Chem cannot be easy

EE is probably harder than MechE because there is more math with less intuition. (signals vs beam equation)

I don't even know wtf computer engineering majors do other than pipeline processors. Pretty sure its not a real major -- just a specialization of EE or CS

idk where Civil fits in.

Software eng isn't a major, wtf

tl;dr
1. premed
2. math, physics
3. chem e, bio e
4. Mech e, CS, EE, civil, aero
5. Everything else.

That's the definitive ranking, people.

For the record, pretty much all math people who don't do differential equations/pdes feel the same way. Most systems of differential equations can only be solved numerically, which is why I don't think chem e is actually difficult mathematically. Okay, make the case. What if you have a degree that requires only one class to get it, and it's some extremely complex math class that requires a minimum of 150 IQ to even hope to pass the class. Now compare this to an engineer taking a 80hr/week workload of complex topics that require maybe 120 IQ to grasp.

You're saying you would consider the 1 course degree harder, even though the only people taking that course would knowingly have 150+ Iq and only have to do several hours a week to complete the course and get said degree.

oh wait, you're just talking shite out of your ass
