Problem:
>I have a dresser drawer full of tshirts, pants, that (mostly) suck

>Most of my clothes doesn't fit me very well (unflattering, baggy, etc)

>I also don't have very much money

I've been debating for a while, just picking through my whole wardrobe and cleansing, sending like 70% of my shit to Goodwill (where I found a lot of it in the first place) and spending like $200 on some essentials, but I don't really know how to? For some reason it's hard to part with all my old shit, even though I don't look good in most of it.

I mean, fuck, I've been thinking of just making my t-shirts into rags for a while. I've already made a cutoff or two for yardwork/working out when I'm not a lazy shitpile.

Could I get by with just having like 4 different pairs of pants, and an assortment of shirts?

I'm literally retard-tier fashion educated.

I've been in a similar position before, I would keep what you have for now, buy modest basics from Uniqlo and Old Navy; and put your old shirts in rotation when you aren't with anyone to limit the amount of wear you put on your clothes.

>> No.10045176

>>10045129
Uniqlo would be perfect if you're on a budget and need the basics.

>> No.10045181

>>10045135
That one is fine though, people could mistake it for a fashion statement as in "RUN GUCCI", but only if you go full fuccboi and wear it

>> No.10045188

I know how you feel, OP. Just barely out of that stage. Keep some of your clothes, I'm sure all of it can't be too bad. Because you want some decent clothes, you aren't going to be able to get much with 200. Make sure you buy form fitting clothes. Not too tight and not too baggy. Start with some slim fit jeans and maybe some plain tees or something and go from there?

What if his clothes don't fit tho. Iunno if he should buy them online.

They have 1400 stores in 16 different regions/countries. I hope this is bait, because I have an extremely hard time believing you.

It would be a little hard to see his first comment coming of as snarky seeing how Uniqlo is a Fast Fashion brand and often gets lumped with the likes of ASOS and H&M, but I really do hope that you stop tripping one day.

>> No.10045241

My friend, you need to go to yardsales. I got four shirts for five dollars and a giant sweatshirt for a dollar. Bargain with them and you'll find tons of stuff

>> No.10045253

>>10045229
I actually didn't know that, people here have always been talking about Uniqlo being pretty decent but I never got anything from there because I only buy clothes if I've tried them on before.
Well the more you know.

My incredulity was mostly because "Stores" is one of the menu items at the top of the page and because they often announce store openings on the home page when there's a new one. I realize my comment came off rather curt, but there's lots of folks who play at cluelessness for the sake of shitposting.

As for my posting in general, I would encourage you to filter me out if you have qualms about my posts.

I live in the midwest, far from uniqlos. I would probably be better off going to a Kohl's and trying to snag some sales shit. Atleast I think.

>>10045241
Yard sales are good, you're right. But part of the problem is that I have a lot of clothes already, just a lot of them kind of suck lol.

Guess I could always peruse and cycle them in when I come across gems, as >>10045188
said.

>>10045188
I'm not grossly out of shape or anything, but I have pretty muscular/thick legs, so I'm pretty self-conscious about tight pants (and frankly probably look bad in them). I'm also like 5'9" manlet. kek.

also, along the vein of essentials, any basic outfits that you can recommend working towards? versatile pants/shirts combos or styles? probably should lurk moar but i'm also doing homework.

My go-to is dark denim and a sweatshirt with German Army trainers or similar sneakers. With a pair of basic dark jeans like Levi's 508/521, which accommodate large thighs while remaining flattering, you can wear just about anything, that was how I started. I would recommend lurking Reddit's r/malefashionadvice instead of /fa/, though. It's mostly discussion here. Buy easy nonseasonal colors like grey and navy to start and work into finding what you like.

Get slim fit pants. There's in-betweens skinny jeans and baggy pants. They should hug your legs a little.

>> No.10045306

>>10045301
Slim doesn't work for most people I've talked to with lift-thighs. There's loose-tapered that is harder to come by but is far less restrictive with still flattering some shapes.

>>10045300
sounds good. i'll look into 'em.

>>10045301
i also carry a lot of shit in my pockets (huge phone, wallet, keys, etc) so i'm not sure that would be the most comfy for me.

I've heard somewhere that going up a size and getting slims is just as good tho. is that BS?

>> No.10045356

>>10045314
Same here. Just try on the pants and get the pair that's fit but comfortable. No real rule to it.

Basic-est outfit I can think of
Fuck there should be some of these in the sticky
Hunter green or navy blue or maroon solid polo from Polo Ralph Lauren or Lacoste or Brooks Brothers ¦ black slim chinos or black straight leg jeans ¦ vintage low-top trainers.....guys I dunno if anybody is gonna read this but I'd love to put together an infographic with basic wardrobe staple sneakers together so that the fucking "which white sneakers do I buy" threads can die

"Does the shirt fit or not"
Easy answer: if the stitching on the shoulder lines up with your shoulder it's the right size. And please don't ever wear a "long tee" that covers your belt line. You should be tucking at this point, as a general rule
Let's at least recommend that newfags are dressed neat and post some inspo, instead of bombarding with weak advice like "go to yard sales, even if you don't have an eye for style"
