Not gonna have the same silhouette, as >>10044960 notes, but for all intents and purposes they are just fuckin' white trainers so yes. Few people would notice or care.

>> No.10044994

How can something that is only similar in color and material be an alternative?
Are sk8 his a good alternative to geobaskets?

Stan Smiths are a good, cheap shoe, but they do not fill the same niche as Achilles Lows

Well what's a good show similar to CP? Are they worth 400 bucks?

The better question is whether or not you think they're worth $400.

The real question is whether or not Common Projects are a good alternative to Stan Smiths.

As minimal white leather shoes? I guess. Otherwise? No.

As stated, the silhouette is very different. Wouldn't be used in the same context at all. Although both are called sneakers, achilles fit/feel more like dress shoes but happen to look like sneakers.

Completely different shoes disregarding material. Not even close.

Look, if you're just looking for a generic white shoe to tie together some simple outfit then stan smith's are going to be fine.

If you're looking for more than just "basic" in a shoe then common projects are probably worth looking in to. It's important to separate the biases you have towards fast fashion prices (shoes you've been buying your whole life have probably been sub 120) from a more open market of shoes and shoe pricing.

$400 might seem like a lot of money but you are comparing apples to oranges. There are reasons why time and time again people go back to common projects as a preferred sneaker and it's not just hype. The build quality is exceptional (I can tell you this from experience with both cp's as well as many other designer sneakers) the silhouette is refined, elegant, and reasonably unique. Shoes that try to imitate it always fail on capturing the slim, pointed profile with many being too chunky, wide, or rounded at the toe to meet the profile requirements to be a real competitor.

They aren't the end all be all of white sneakers but they are exceptionally good, flattering sneakers that hold up well in a variety of stylistic choices from streetwear to casual suiting, so if that's something that appeals to you, cp's probably aren't going to let you down.

Not that it probably means anything to you, but of all the sneakers I've handled in the variety of shops I've worked at and visited, cp's are probably the only shoe i'll buy twice in a row because I can put them on and know that I won't really need to worry about whether or not I could have picked a more appropriate piece of footwear for whatever look I chose that day because they tend to just work at least decently with just about anything.

CPs, CP copycats, stan smiths, rod lavers, and superstars are all based off the adidas tennis shoe.
