I mean just keeping it for the sake of keeping it. For example I've got a neat jacket from LUC that i dont wear too often (casual blazers aint my thang) but i really really like having it full stop. True. A good general rule when you can't find the exact measurements is to size down one on leather boots because they will stretch and mold to your feet after several wears. You always want leather boots to fit a little tight when they're new and you never want extra room because that'll cause blisters.

Shoes are more forgiving in the sizing because most are made with padding/cotton/synthetic materials that aren't as stiff and unforgiving.
