I was thinking about getting this one, but it's a bit small for the price.

I live in washington state so I was thinking about getting an osprey kestrel 32 because it's okay to look like a hiker and the osprey has:
+More volume
+hip straps
+internal frame
+ventilated back mesh
+built in raincover (pretty nice/essential for western washington winters)
+more adjustability (compacting/suspension)
+lifetime warranty
+better zippers
+large external mesh pocket
+same price ($150)

however it's much less /fa/ and more /out/
I think however I might just get a bag/satchel/briefcase for when I need to look professional

Yeah I have an orange 50L for backpacking, which I do a lot of, and a 40L from craigslist, all osprey. i really like their backpacks a lot, but those two are too large for everyday use, and they're both an annoying orange color.

I think that having so much support in the hips and the frame will make carrying heavy textbooks and shit easier too, but my other bags have too much curvature in the back and are too tall and skinny for books

Herschels backpacks are absolutely shit. Don't buy them. You will be buying a crappy quality bag and will look like every middleschool teenager.
For the same pricepoint, look at Carhartt instead. At least Carhartt actually use YKK zippers that won't pop open when put under a bit of stress. Honestly, Herschels cuts so many corners it's ridiculous.

you're going to be paying upwards of a thousand bucks for a leather bag. most of the big houses have one, but they're mainly in small limited functionality styles. I personally don't like this style of bag as it sits further down your back and sits on top of my large ass making me look retarded. I have a beautiful bag that I never use because of this.

I don't know of any leather styles with straps sitting it higher up, so definitely consider how it will sit on your back before committing the money.
