If you want to do anything different with it, experiment with the way the back is cut. It could be tapered up, one normal length with the top blended in, or normal length with the top breaking on the back, a long taper where the back blends into it etc.

Your head seems to "cone" at the top. Meaning, it gets smaller towards the crown. You can make it appear as if it doesn't by growing out the top much longer than the sides. You'll want to get the sides tapered from the top, down. That way it squares out the shape of your head. You may benefit more from your hair being thrown back than side-parted. How is your hair when it grows longer?

Okay, so your hair is a little more thick/coarse. That could be beneficial for you. Keep the top long and the sides short. Like the picture I just posted.

Notice the length difference between the top and side. The important part of this cut is the middle length. Do you see between the part and the side how the hair is longer there than by the ear? Its that tapered effect that will square out your head.

Your hair is on track to be like his. The main difference is that he had a professional stylist to apply product on his wet hair and then blowdry it while combing it back and up to add that volume. So my only suggestion would be to learn how to do that. Its not impossible but even I'm too lazy to do that most days.

With that out of the way, you should start with a basic undercut. Something with the sides starting VERY short close to the hairline and then a tiny but of length closer to the crown if your head. Grow out the top 3-4x the length it is now so you have enough weight on it to throw it around. Start without product initially and see how your hair is natural. If it's too lightweight, by a simple pomade or wax. Rub a dime sized amount in your hands to create some heat it in then apply to slightly damp hair and style.

Since your hair is curly, you have a few hairstyles that can be done. One of them would be what you have now, which is a semi-fringe. Your other options would be a buzzcut (which I don't recommend) or growing it out longer, but just the top.

It doesn't look to bad overall right now though. I say you grow out the top a bit more, but keep the sides nice and short. This will give you a more "fashionable" look. Since your hair takes time to grow, take advantage of it by eating right and exercising while it grows.

As far as diet/exercise goes, you could always visit /fit/. However, it's pretty simple. Just eat 4 small meals a day.

Breakfast - Oatmeal.
Lunch1 - whole weat bread, deli meat, a slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato.
Lunch2 - 1-2 chicken breasts with potato or sweet potato.
Dinner - Fish with rice.

Something simple like that. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Also, sometimes one of my lunches will just be a few hundred calories worth of peanuts or almonds.

I only go to the gym 3 days a week and play hockey once a week. I'm 5'11, 135-140lbs and 8% BF.

If you have a long face, avoid styles that add too much volume to the top of your head, as it will only accentuate this feature.

I'd recommend cutting the sides short but keeping the top long enough to through to the side. This will give you a clean look on the sides and the long top will take away from the long face by creating some width on one side.

This is my hair after the shower, no gel or anything. I don't use any products, besides shampoo and conditioner every blue moon. And gel. I was looking for advice on two things. One, is any known products that will help bring volume and make my hear look healthier. Both products to use in the shower and products to use outside of the shower are what i'm looking for. Or, should I just get it cut short. I've had it buzzed to a 3 or 4, and it looked... alright. I've also had it cut like an 8 on top and a 3 or 4 on sides and it also looked alright. Since you have long hair, anything you get at this point will be drastically different for you.

My recommendation would be to get it cut a couple times until you're comfortable with it. You have the advantage that you can do any length hairstyle, while others have to grow it out for months to get to where they want.

Look through this thread and find a few pictures of styles you like and let me know what interests you. I can help describe it in "hair terms" so you can go to a salon and get exactly what you want.

In shower products: I personally only ever use a purple shampoo every few days because my hair is bleached. I follow this up with a generic coconut oil conditioner. Before that, I never used shampoo or conditioner. I also deep condition once a month.

Out shower products: From what I can see, your hair is thin-ish. I'd recommend a wax or a pomade. Both can be order off amazon. If you want some shine to it, get any normal wax/pomade. If you want it to just look like dry hair, find something that says "matte-finish". Bumble and bumble as well as Oribe have both of those. Although, they're slightly expensive.

I get the sides cut using a "scissor over comb" method. I have a VERY slight taper. When my hair is combed back, it all looks an even length. The hair on the back is only short around the hairline. Even when my hair isn't combed back, I still have a prominent 'V' shape thats tapered from the down. That way, my hair flows into the back rather than just resting on the back.

Your hair looks clean-cut right already though. If you want to do something different, you can try to grow it out just a bit more and manipulate it backwards. It all depends on what type of hair you have though.

It's one of those things that is potentially terrible on everyone. I get people that both love and hate it. I always just recommend people go for it. Hair is always growing. Worse comes to worse, you regrow your hair back out.

Also, please don't take this the wrong way, but bleached hair has the "shaved head effect", meaning that it will accentuate your features/flaws.

Due to the nature of your hair, you will have limited options. However, I think a simple undercut would do wonders for your appearance. Something short on the sides, slightly tapered upwards with a bit of length on the top to play around with. It can look professional and you can wear it messy for when you go out.

I have a long, narrow head with a tall forehead and a projected chin, which pretty much dooms me to only sport a ponytail. Short hair doesn't fit me at all.
Thing is, I read last week that sporting a ponytail everyday can cause tension alopecia due to excessive traction, and it apparently is a permanent condition.
Obviously I don't want that to happen, but I really can't sport anything else than a ponytail in my workplace.
