Hey /fa/ I have an interview for a copywriter position and was told a suit was a no go, I suck at clothes so I was hoping you could help me put together a business casual outfit. I has in mind going with khakis, a plaid shirt and knitted tie but I'm not shure.

It sounds like you are on the right track. If they explicitly said not to wear a suit, avoid wearing a jacket, but definitely still show up in some form of dress clothing.

I'd do khakis + gingham shirt + solid knit tie + casual tie clip + good brown dress shoes, but it's not inherently better (or different, really) than what you outlined.

It depends on the company really. Is a more creative firm with a more relaxed attitude? -- or a more corporate place with a more conservative look? Do your research on the place you're employing.

I work as a copywriter by the way. When I was interviewing for different positions, sometimes it was more appropriate to wear a suit, other times I just wore slim black slacks with a button up and nice tie.

and don't wear a fucking plaid shirt, that will make you look like a lumberjack, let alone with a tie. are you talking about a plaid patterned shirt or an actual plaid shirt? heavily patterned shirts are typically too casual for a job interview

lol no, but I wish I was as dashing as Don. I think I'll go with khakis, pale blue shirt, brown shoes and maybe a knitted tie. I'm open to using other color palette
